Plunge into the abyss with the undisputed master of exploration.
The captain of the Nautilus is a man beset by legends, misunderstandings and mystery. How much do we really know of this man, and how much more is there to know?
In this novel from J. Dharma Windham, dive into the enigmatic past of Captain Nemo, explorer, scientist and adventurer. Learn how the events from his past shaped him, and how his journey came to change the world.
James Dharma Windham is a novelist, archaeologist, and lifelong adventurer whose fiction is shaped by a fascination with exploration, exotic places, and the mysteries of the ancient world.
Windham spent several years working on archaeological excavations in Egypt and travelling through the Middle East, North Africa, and Central America. Those experiences—wandering through ancient ruins, handling artefacts, and encountering the remnants of vanished civilisations—would later provide inspiration and authenticity for the worlds he creates in his fiction.
His appetite for adventure has never been confined to the page. He has sailed the Pacific and the Sea of Cortez, lived aboard a boat for two years, taken flying lessons and soloed, and restored three classic Jaguar E-Types. His travels and adventures lend his novels their distinctive sense of place, danger, discovery, and romance.
Windham is the author of historical fantasy, science fiction, and adventure novels, including the Chronicles of Cleopatra series and Captain Nemo: The Beginning. His latest adventure novel, Dark Passage, follows heiress Joanna Marrs on a dangerous journey from America to the East China Sea, where murder, intrigue, and an extraordinary secret hidden on a forgotten island converge.
When he isn’t writing, Windham can usually be found reading, collecting ancient coins and antiquities, or writing longhand with one of his fountain pens—often under the watchful supervision of his black-and-white cat, Hemlock.
I started this book, expecting a simple retelling of the 200,000 Leagues tale. It turned out to be so much more. The original Nemo legend is there as a foundation, but Windham builds a multi-faceted story on top of that.
