She fought and survived. Now Riven is tasked with bringing the Kingdoms together under one rule, surviving her flame and facing what lies beneath the tide. Will this new world swallow her whole, or will she thrive in its chaos?
I literally just finished reading this book & when I tell you, I COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN! Each book in this series just gets better! Riven, Alex, Enver, Rowan, I swear I could list them all & all of the ways I love them & it still wouldn't come close to the rollercoaster of feelings running through me right now. Katherine Ann has for sure built & continues to build a world that I utterly & completely lose myself in. I cannot wait to see how this story, how this world continues to grow & change. I will absolutely be recommending to anyone & everyone within earshot or keyboard stroke to read these books. This world needs to be shared & loved!
I don’t really know where to start with this series… This contains spoilers!
I started the series and could appreciate the plot building and the romance that would be inevitable. The slowness to the series kept me reading thinking that maybe pieces would come together. But as I kept reading I was filled with more questions and unease. Eventually, I kept reading because I’m fucking stubborn and put a lot of time into it already. Also, this seems like the authors first series and I wanted to give her an honest try with it because creating something like this is not easy.
The idea is there and I think she could wrap this series up in a nice way, but after 3 Cliff hangers I worry that the next book is just going to be the same build up of unhealthy coping mechanisms, lies, and more secrets that will tear these characters apart. Honestly, after finishing this I don’t think they should be together, and I honestly don’t think I care to find out.
I’m not a big grammar person. I can get around a typo or two here and there and not feel annoyed by it, but there were a large number of places in this series where I had to reread portions to figure out what she was trying to write, and realized that it was just typos that were never corrected. I’m not an expert and I know catching every typo is not possible, but it was so much.
The romance in this series is confusing and cringy. It really bothered me that there was so much time spent building up this relationship and knowing there were so many things that these characters needed to talk about, but just avoided. When I thought that they would finally have a heart felt conversation, Alek would just finger her again.. and then the awkward third person to the mix? I almost stopped reading all together. The only growth that seems to happen is the main character gets better with her magic and better at suppressing the things that bother her. After 3 books of waiting for them to have sex and reach that part of their relationship, it was so anticlimactic and disappointing that I only finished because there was one chapter left.
In real life things like this take so much time, sometimes a lifetime to heal from, but in a book? I was just looking for more character, relationship and plot development instead of new ways to avoid what was happening.
By the end, I was left with more unanswered questions than what I started the series with. I really wish it was better and I wish I could give a better review, but overall it was pretty bad. There were good parts to it definitely, but not good enough to keep me waiting for the next one…

Bad news first, always the bad news. Not that it’s a huge matter, but the author needs to find herself a better editor!! Aside from part 2 having an error on the spine, there’s multiple spelling and grammar errors, double spaced etc. I don’t think that’s “shame on the author” at all, she deserves a better editor.
Gods…. This series is starting to creep its way to the top of my “re-read” list. Props to the author for an engaging tale with crazy turns that are unexpected and even though I hate it I gotta hand it to her for the GODSDAMMED cliffhangers!! The last 25 pages was a whirlwind. Literal highs and lows. I’m still irritated with Riven because she’s so fucking stubborn and needs to give in and tell Alek she loves him. And quit it with the fucking secrets!! After finishing the book that goes for ALL parties involved. But can we step back and talk about chapter 55? (What is it always about chapter 55 😂 IYKYK from ACOTAR). Holy balls. I hope in book 3 there is a long drawn out scene with those 3… that wrecked me. ☔️ Granted that was also the case when Riven and Alek finally broke the seal. But Enver? I love him.
Ok so I have lots of thoughts about this book and series Spoilers included.
The good The concept is interesting and there is some good world building. I do also like the slow build pace of the relationship development as there is enough else happening to balance it out as the character learns her magic. I also do love that she doesn’t become a slave to her lust and mates-attraction, and does fight it for quite a long time as she vowed to do! Some good fight scenes The way the past and history was given to the reader was done pretty well. It wasn’t lazy or a dump of info.
The bad 1.Grammar 2.Spelling 3.It’s not “seen” it’s “saw” (control-F, and replace all) 4.Often I would need to re-read passages to understand what was being said or who was talking or what they were talking about so that was frustrating. 5.the tension and angst was built pretty well but unfortunately became tiring as it hasn’t gone anywhere 6.the character was not stupid or whiny which was appreciated given her young age and naivety
I’m also disappointed at the lack of character development and some confusing aspects. 1. Why is he just fingering her and not having sex once she lets him in 2. Their own relationship is so fraught, they barely have spoken and learned about each other let alone done many physical interactions and the third person Enver is introduced…and I’m not sure why? I don’t really recall her describing him much more than his emerald eyes 3. What is with the lies -that they both are aware of but never discuss? Never broach? Never check in with each other despite repeatedly saying they want the other to be ok 4. She keeps alluding to pieces coming together and having a plan but there isn’t much given in the way of clues 5. Knox. I like the romance complication but a last ditch clue is thrown in about his stamina and alluding to something else going on… And did Alex seduce him somehow?!? At some point?!?…..I must have read that passage about his “obsession with Knox the only male he’d been with to find out he’d didn’t know what the female orgasm was” or was it some magic thing?!!! 6.there is a lot you have to remember like what was the stabbing story with Morgan? I don’t want to go back 3 books to re-read what happened to fill myself in.. 7. Jury’s out on the different POVs. Not bad but I don’t think it added anything to the story.
So I don’t know when the next book is planned for. And the cliffhanger was too un-believable and with not enough detail that I’m not sure I’m invested enough to remember or hold hope for the next book. Which is a shame as I quite liked the world that had been created.

First, I did really like the storyline and where it’s going, I think it’s original and not the same story I’ve read countless times so that’s my one positive thing about this book.
Plot line: Moves SO slowly, very little main character development, jumps from one place to the next in the span of a chapter but no real plot development happening. The author uses so many words to describe things that don’t really need it but then barely mentions something that should majorly impact the plot. It was hard to keep up with, and honestly, this amount of plot could have been cut down to one book instead of two. Any time the two main characters had any type of disagreement or conflict, they turned to sex-but-not-quite-sex to solve it and never even talked about the issue.
MY MAIN ISSUE: THE GRAMMAR AND THE SPELLING
I’ve never read a book that has had so many grammatical and spelling issues. Even Wattpad has better editing. I hope the author didn’t pay anyone to edit this because it’s like it didn’t even happen. Some major things I noticed:
too vs. to vs. two - used incorrectly multiple times desert vs. dessert - used incorrectly twice waived vs. waved - used incorrectly at least once barely vs. barley - multiple times their vs. there vs. they’re - SO MANY TIMES your vs. you’re - multiple times He seen vs. he has seen or he saw - OMG girl, I’m from Appalachia so I get it but come on!!!!
Firstly… I have never EVER read anything like this. This series is literally mind blowingly amazing!
The absolute torture, anticipation and whirlwind of emotions is unmatched. I couldn’t stop reading and I am utterly heartbroken that I can’t continue right now. BECAUSE ITS NOT WRITTEN YET!!! *sobs*
The love story is so beautiful and filled with angst and frustration. It’s the best I’ve ever seen. Riven and Alekxander are top tier couple goals with all the trials they faced and challenges they endured to find their way to each other.
The actual plot was masterfully woven together with so many intricate parts. I cannot even begin to explain how well this was executed. I was equally invested in the actual happenings and the love story which is weird for me because I normally really just care about the love 😆
So much detail in all the different creatures, all the different realms, all the wonderfully written characters. I can’t get enough of it.
Katherine Ann did an absolutely brilliant job at keeping me interested and completely obsessed. She drew out every single emotion possible and I am here for it all.
This was a wild ride! All I can say is buckle in kitty cats! Secrets being revealed, mind blowing battle scenes, excruciating heartbreak each persons trauma caused, I was sitting on the edge of my seat screaming! Lemme tell you, I thrive on reading other people’s traumas! I eat that shit up! What we have been waiting for since the very first book is the connection and spicy scenes from Riven and the Dark Fae King, it did not disappoint! ANGST does not even describe their interactions! It was next level tension that has been brewing and exploded! I did not expect Alek to give Enver some leeway because of how possessive he is Riven but I was like OKURR! I’m here for it! Once again, betrayal has racked the Dark Fae kingdom and I’m dying once again for the next book!
I'd like to thank the author for allowing me to be an ARC reader for this book. This story dive right into where book two part one left off. There are so many different things happening, and boy do they pull on your heart strings. Tears will be shed. Laughter will follow. The world Building... It is absolutely amazing. This book is (chefs kiss) 👨🍳💋 Enemies are made, friends are found, and families are created. A must read for sure. Oh and maybe re tears and more anger and more laughter. And the spice 🪭🔥🌶️🥵🌶️🥵🔥🌶️🥵🔥🌶️🥵 This is not for the weak. I cannot wait to read more! This world, this story, it lives rent free in my mind on a daily bases now.
This series was a five-star read for me, I absolutely loved every bit of it! I'm dying for the fourth one to come out now. I know the third one only came out in March but I don't know if I'm going to be able to sleep until I know what happened. The cliffhanger at the end of this Book are you kidding 😳 run, don't walk and download this series immediately! I've been reading fantasy for a good 5 years now and this is one of my top series. I will say there are some errors and periods where commas should be but the story was so good I overlooked all that with no problem. If anybody needs me I'll just be here withering away until the 4th one comes out
To say I am hooked will be a massive Understatement. This book has it all, ticked all of my boxes. Romance, spice, adventure, personal growth. I was so excited when Riven and Alek finally seemed to get their relationship in order. There is such beauty in the ups and downs that they seem to struggle through and all the characters that surround them seem exactly like a family. I find myself more intrigued every sentence and every chapter. I think this book is so unwritten and has such beautiful storyline alongside adventure and spice to keep you intrigued. I absolutely cannot wait to read the next one!

I’m not sure how to put in words how I feel about this after that ending without expletives…. I kinda figured that there was no way the series was going to end with book 3, but I certainly was not expecting that! Plenty of action and more building going on. The pieces are coming together. So much to still come. I couldn’t begin to predict what happens next other than Alek is one pissed off mate. I am bowled over at just how good this series is! The next installment can’t come soon enough! I’m obsessed!
Slight Spoiler: I absolutely loved this series. I’m so upset with myself that I haven’t had the time to sit down and read this book faster! Each book so far has been better than the last. I absolutely love this world. I love how Riven and Alek end up but I’m totally upset with the cliffhanger! I need the third like now. I loved getting to know more of the characters from book 1 in book 2. And I loved how things with Enver turned out. I just hope everything stays heading in that direction after the other shoe dropped lol.

If Im being honest, the typos and grammar errors bothered me. The author definitely needs a better editor and to do some more thorough reading before final publishing.
Those technical aspects aside, I really enjoyed the story. Of the three books, I think this one was my favourite. Rowan/Enver are my favourite characters and you see more of them and their personalities during this story. A few plot holes that Im hoping are cleared up in the next book, but all in all I had a hard time putting it down.
Absolute Epic Romantasy! Amazing plot and character development. This is book 2 and it begins right where book 1 stops. I could not stop thinking about this book it is so, so good. I was so engaged and invested in this story line from start to finish. Great writing and world building. You are going to love this series. I cannot wait for book 3. Magic Fae & Creatures Slow Burn Romance & Spice One Horse Trope Trigger warnings War/ Action
I loved the world building and I am completely invested in the characters. When is the next book coming out?? I looked everywhere and can’t find any mention of the 4th book. I am seriously going to be disappointed if there isn’t one.
Speak about being disappointed….they finally have sex! And it was meh. The slow burn was awesome to only have okay sex. I am frustrated on Riven’s behalf.
If anyone knows any information on the 4th book, let me know!

Okay so plot wise this was my favorite of the series so far, but there were so many grammatical errors and just straight up typos that I had such a hard time focusing on the story I'm really invested in 😭 I'm really hoping the next book is better edited bc I really am so into the characters, the world, and the story!
I couldn't put this book down!!! Each book in this series gets better and better! The cliffhanger at the end has me needing more so bad. I want to stay immersed inside this world and I'm not ready for it to be over. Hopefully not too long of a wait for the next book. I will highly recommend these books!
I can’t decide how I feel about these books. I ate these up because I am enjoying the plot. The story is so good! But everything else is so distracting that it takes away from it instead of adding to it. There are so many editing issues. Also, the spice in these books seems out of place for me and doesn’t really vibe with the love story it’s attached to.
Plot of the book is pretty good. I feel some things aren’t explained or clarified enough and others are over explained needlessly. Had to go back a few times to check if I missed an explanation.
There’s also an ABSURD amount of spelling and grammatical errors. I submitted a report many times throughout the book and eventually gave up as it was getting tedious.
Part two was just a wild ride. I was blushing like a school girl, feeling some things for Enver and now I'm crying too. Thanks. time to wait for the next one.
This was such and exciting and emotional novel. All the ups and downs had me hooked I couldn't put it down. I had to know what happens to everyone. I loved this story and how it played out.
Katherine. Please fire Samantha because that editing was ROUGH.
Bare vs Bear Your vs You’re Their vs They’re Are all the very bare minimum basics of grammatical accuracy. By about 65% into the book it just got really really bad.
There are bits where conversation is happening that’s just confusing because it lacks context. Such as right before Riven beheaded that guy in the dungeon and he said something about “she enjoyed it” I was soo confused until a while later when context was finally given. And I say “that guy” because there is literally so many characters to keep track of. I lost count at 30 in the first book. I don’t even recall who Sadira is or what she does. I literally don’t remember Morgan stabbing her? And even so Morgan was subsequently in like two scenes of this book so the stabbing actually added zero value to the storyline? Can’t remember who Adelram is either.
It got to a point I started skimming conversational scenes because excessive and unnecessary detail was added between every single quote. Which is odd because as stated before, not the right details were added to conversational pieces. More along the lines of:
“Tell me what I want to know.” I seethed, my hands flexing at my sides. I felt my heart quickening, sure he could hear the thundering. Sweat beaded down my forehead and I used a shaky palm to wipe it away. The air thick around me, making it hard to breathe. His jaw feathered as his eyes gleamed from the candles lining the walls. “She enjoyed it you know.” His eyes narrowed to mine, I had to suck in a breath to hold myself from the feeling in my spine. My fingers tingled with tension…
Like…oh my goddddd get to the point please??? Who is “she” and enjoyed what? CONTEXT.
At times Riven would seem to have some epiphany about something and I’m like “I don’t get it? What did I miss” but turns out it’s something that I guess the reader is left in the dark about? I honestly dunno. Context is important and left me frustrated at many points.
Riven keeps talking about pieces coming together and a big plan she has but ????
Character development? Never met her. Riven comes into her knowledge of elemental magic but has not developed at all mentally or emotionally.
The random almost threesome with Enver? What was the reason? She’s hardly ever treated him as just the side character he is.
That all being said, I did enjoy this book. To a point. I’m excited to see what happens, the storyline kept me engaged. The world building is decent, and there’s so many questions I’m excited to have answered.
Took a star away for such bad editing. Took another star away for the confusing scenes/lack of context and excessive characters to remember.
