Just couldn't get into it - interesting premise, but didn't hold my attention - abandoned about 2/3 of the way through. Didn't care enough to finish the last 20 pages, much less start on 'Lost Tomorrow'. I hoped it would have something of a 'Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy' or 'Mort' vibe to it....I should not have had any expectations, I guess...
This is a good book for middle school children and the illustrations are fun. No matter what fear is fear but, if you can overcome it you will find the way to smile and to be brave.
Made me wanting more. Fortunately, I got this and the second book at Wizard World Chicago. Both signed! I look forward to reading more of Sunshine's adventures.
Very fast children's short story with illustrations that can easily be finished in one sitting. Briefly, it's about a conflict between Fear and a family known as the Darksmiths that appear to be decent people with a mysterious past. With Fear attempting to devour their newborn daughter Sunshine, the family endeavors to whisk her to safety through the help of Death.
The plot was fairly standard with decent illustrations. I'm not entirely sure what is happening between the two factions, but I imagine more is revealed in other stories.
Great introduction into the backstory of Sunshine, Fear and the world the story is set in. I loved the mix of story and illustrations. The characters and backstory are set up well in this story. Based on this story, I am very intrigued in following Sunshine and the mystery surrounding her and her family in book one.
