Bentwhistle the Dragon #2

Bentwhistle The Dragon in A Chilling Revelation

Rate this book
Following his harrowing and near death experience at the talons of the evil dragon Manson in 'A Threat From The Past', Peter Bentwhistle, the human shaped dragon and reluctant hero, finds himself on the slow path to recovery.
Helped by his dragon friends, Tank and Richie (both in their human forms), he finds solace in his new found friendship with the dragon king. But the three friends are soon unwittingly drawn into a deadly plot, when a straight forward meeting with the monarch sees them helping an injured dragon agent, straight back from his mission in Antarctica with news of a devastating encounter with another ancient race.
Blackmail, intrigue, forbidden love interests, a near fatal mantra gone wrong, a highly charged rugby match in which Tank takes a beating, combined with enough laminium ball action to please dragons the world over, stretch the bonds of the dragons' friendship like never before. New friends and ancient enemies clash as the planet braces itself for one of the most outrageous attacks it has ever seen. Lost secrets and untold lore come to light, while sinister forces attempt to steal much coveted magic.
Explosive exploits, interspersed with a chilly backdrop and unexpected danger at every turn, make for an action-packed, electrifying adventure.

Great continuation to the series

Peter finally learns the answer to who is secretly studying him and the answers changes many things. The unease which Peter feels for Mason, the dragon is very real and there is a reason for that.
The plots and the subplots address weaved very well with new villains being added up. Liked it.

Cude creates his dual-world well; sometimes I felt it was a little too spelled out for me, but other times it was the perfect amount. Again, I did feel a little bogged down in the explicit details of the different games (laminium ball, lacrosse, rugby, field hockey), since I'm not a huge sports person. However, the continued character development and introduction of new characters was excellent. I found myself more and more irritated as the book continued with the all caps use for expression of things that really didn't need to be so flamboyantly emphasized. I'm an intelligent reader; I don't need to be told quite so explicitly what I need to be feeling or thinking. It comes across (to me) as very immature writing or a very immature character who has to resort to all caps just to express themself.
Am I curious about what will happen next? Certainly. Am I going to jump on the next book? Not soon. I have other books singing their siren song to me...
Thank you for the free copy. All perspective is my own.

Since Manson has not gone after Peter, things started to calm down. Even though Richie knew she wasn't to do it, she started to go out with Tim. Peter started to become friends with Julia and all three of the dragons became friends with Flash.
The king sent Flash to Antartica to check out why scientists are dying. I can't tell you what happened and what Flash found out...it would spoil the book for you, except Flash was very seriously hurt. A Dragon Dr. took him to the King and Gee Tee was successful in curing him, except he had to stay as a human and not turn into a dragon again, even though he still was a dragon. Flash finally realized he needed friends and so became friends with Peter, Tank and Richie.
Explosions started to occur all over the globe. Humans and Dragons alike were being killed. what was happening, why and how. One evening after a hockey match Julia tells Peter and Tank that she saw this machine in the manager's office and it was counting down. They looked and realized it was a laminium bomb. Tank and Peter got everyone out of the club house with Julia's help and Tank and Peter tried a mantra hoping that no one would get hurt. They were successful and the building blew but no one was hurt. Then they found out that Richie and Tim were in the cellar when the building blew.
This book has a little romance and a of action. I am reading book 3 right now. I am enjoying this series and I'm sure you will too.

What an amazing read for the second book in this 6 book saga. It follows the adventures (or should that be the MISadventures) of Peter, Tank, and Gee Tee, plus a wonderful assortment of characters that enhance your reading experience. These three special dragons, are once again called on to assist the King and the entire dragon world, all without letting the humans they work with, know of their secret. Shhhhhhhhhhh. Plus, Peter is also head over heels in love with Janice, a beautiful young female human, which for a dragon is a huge NO NO!
A special mention to Flash, a member of the Crimson Guard, who sacrificed his dragonness, (forced to be stuck in his human disguise) during a top secret mission. Peter’s grandfather is one of a few unfortunate captives in a dastardly plot, that could end all of dragon-kind.
I think we will not see the last of Flash, this brave dragon, and trust that Gee Tee will do his absolute best to restore to him, his full dragon abilities.
This is one series that should be an absolute MUST read for, not just fans of this genre, but for all readers who enjoy a damn good read!
Oh, by the way, my new number 1 on my bucket list, is to sit in the stands and see a laminium ball game. That would be a thrill!
Five ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ stars for a wonderful read that will get the adrenaline pumping.

The tension and action in this book just grabs you by the ears and makes you keep reading. This book feels like it’s actually at least three books compiled into one, but there is no loss of definition to the storyline and each component is approached with great care. The segue into the next crisis is not an abrupt change but more like a look into the daily lives of the great and wonderful dragons. The readers get to welcome Flash and King George to the group, each of whom add their own quirks and opinions to the mix. Though ending mid sentence on a cliffhanger, it still feels like the perfect place to pause the story and let anguish grow over what is going to happen next. This series is growing substantially excellent with each book. Keep reading, as if stoping is even an option.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. I was very impressed that this author brought together, and overlapped 2 separate plots. One of the hero, Peter, returning to a normal life after overcoming the evil Manson. The other, an evil hybrid determined to destroy the lives of humans and dragons alike. But who is it, and how will it end? There are many intense moments, of joy, of heartache, of treachery, of excitement too, as Peter and his friends return to their sports, and unknowingly become pawns in a deadly plot, with an ending that will make you crave the next book

I am really enjoying this series. So many great characters Peter, Richie & Tank and so many more. I love the idea of the series. Dragons live among the humans and keep the council informed of whats going on The commraderey between these 3 friends is refreshing. Being dragons they are told no relationships with humans ever. They try hard not to have feelings but sometimes the heart rules. The dragons and humans have no idea what is coming for them. An evil is lurking around and they won't even see it coming. I am definitely getting the rest of this series.

Just finished book two in this engrossing series of dragons living among the human world. Mason again is working to destroy all that has been good between the races of man and creatures but this time he has set a path of destruction that even Peter may not be able to recover from.
The storyline is so detailed that you become part of the characters lives and find yourself laughing and crying with each turn of the page. A must-read for dragon lovers.

Review of A Chilling Revelation
By
Paul Cude

I received a review copy of this work from Paul Cude

Overview.
This is the second book in Paul Cude’s White Dragon series. It follows on after the events in book 1.
If you’ve not read any of his books before, I will tell you that the concept is an original one.
Dragons live below the ground in a complex society. They have houses, monorails and many other things we have. The one thing they can do which we can’t is use magic.
Dragons use this magic in order to protect and help humankind. In order to do this, they take human form and live amongst us.

Blurb
Treachery from the sands of Egypt to the plains of Antarctica.
Following on from the harrowing events of 'A Threat From The Past' (Book 1), a new found friendship with the dragon king is forged.
Soon though, young and old alike are unwittingly drawn into a deadly plot, when a straight forward meeting with the monarch sees them helping an injured dragon agent, straight back from his mission in Antarctica with news of a devastating encounter with another ancient race.

Story
The tale begins in the distant past, with an exciting chase. A dragon, in human form is trying to help prevent a meeting between Ptolomy and Alexander the Great, for the good of Humanity.
We then learn that this is a story being told to young dragons in the ‘nursery ring’.
Peter, Tank and Ritchie, from Book 1, are again featured.
Peter has struck up a friendship with the dragon king after he visits with Peter in the hospital at the end of Book 1. He and his friends are invited to visit the king. While they are there, some terrible news breaks and they become involved in solving a dastardly plot from Antarctica.
The story was exciting, especially at the end.

Characters
Peter, although the main character in the story, is the least well-drawn. He has very few outstanding characteristics. He’s a ‘nice’ young man. He works for Croptech, a company involved in the production of the metal, laminium, that is very important in the dragon world. Here, he is in charge of security.
Tank, on the other hand, is a kind-hearted dragon. He does seem to have more about him than Peter, especially when he stands up to his boss. He works in a shop selling and researching spells (called mantra).
The last of the trio is Ritchie. She is a feisty young woman, and often gets herself into trouble for ignoring rules.
Tank’s boss, Tee Gee is my favourite character and the most well-drawn. He is an ancient, irascible dragon who hides a kind heart beneath a grumpy exterior.
In this book, we are introduced to Flash, a member of the King’s Crimson Guard, an elite force. In many ways, Flash is an innocent of human and dragon society, having spend much of his life working alone.

Writing
Sadly, like the first book, the writing leaves much to be desired. Mr Cude hops from head to head. One minute we’re looking at the world from Peter’s point of view, then the next from, say, Ritchie. On at least one occasion, he changes viewpoint in the middle of a sentence.
Many of his paragraphs are overlong. I assume he got carried away with the story.
There are occasional wrong words used.
He seems to think the readers have poor memories, and he keeps reminding us that dragons have eidetic memories, that Ritchie, is small, etc.
And the sports. There were 31 pages devoted to a hockey match at one point. This match was not essential for the plot, nor did it add anything to our knowledge of the characters. I skipped it.
One final thing that I found irritating was Mr Cude’s seeming reluctance to tell us who a chapter was about until at least a page and a half in, using the pronouns, ‘he’ and ‘she’.
I got the impression that Mr Cude got to the end of the book, wrote The End, sighed with relief and pressed ‘Publish’ without reading it through again.

Conclusion
This was an excellent, and exciting story. I thoroughly enjoyed it, but the writing lets it down. This is a pity. My feelings about the series are mixed. I want to know what happens next (this book ended with a cliffhanger), but will I be able to cope with the amateurish writing?
I’m giving it 4*, in spite of the writing, because it’s a good story.

I received an e-book copy in exchange for a completely honest review.

I'm not one who normally leaves reviews, as I'm terrible at wording properly, but I will do my best!

The first book left me wanting more, so I was excited to read the second. Again I was pulled into the world of Peter, Tank, and Richie. We were introduced to some new main characters as well, which you get to read parts of the stories through their eyes. I really love that it's not all from one persons' view, I've come to adore books like these immensely. Although I haven't had much reading energy lately I feel I that I read this one pretty fast, and let me tell you... I am so glad I have the next book because Paul Cude HOW COULD YOU LEAVE ME A CLIFFHANGER LIKE THAT! *cough* Again I will say I was sucked into all the crazyness that was happening, which spurred me to continue reading, even the sportsball talk (I'm not a sportsball fan, but man, I can see why people get so hyped!). This is definitely a series I'm gonna be rereading!

Peter is recovering from his encounter with Mason. It is while recovering he finds out who the mysterious man that has been watching him all his life is..it is the KING!
His friends finally know that his unease with Mason was real. Mason is a dragon who is different from any they have ever encountered.
Legends, blackmail and magic are blended together in a more dramatic book.
The mixture of plots and subplots is splended and easy to follow.
Young love that is forbidden leads to tension between the friends.
Spies and ancient enemies just add to the intrigue.
Danger, bombs, magic, prophecy and Laminum ball!
This series is growing in intensity and entertainment.
Gee-Tee is my favorite character! Sure of himself, and filled with mischief!
I am really loving it.

I enjoyed this next book in the White Dragon Saga.

While there was a lot of focus and detail on the sports enjoyed by the characters, and that's not 100% my thing, the author incorporated them well into the story.

What really stood out to me was the way Author Cude develops characters and world builds. Both made this book a joy to read.

It is a continuation of story from the first book, so be warned and read it in order!

It's an action-packed read and moves between the story's past and present smoothly.

**thank you to the author who gave me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review**
May contain spoilers

Again I felt it started a bit slow and I struggled to get into it with the introduction of new viewpoints, but quickly was gripped by the story. Again I struggled with all the sporting references. Overall I felt it was a good story that I did enjoy and I will definitely go on to read the next one.

Another great book, it continues the adventures of the three friends and blends it with the experiences of life. Some new characters emerge who undoubtedly have significant roles to play in future books.
I love the way the dragon lifestyle mirrors the humans to some extent and how their roles are those of importance in the human realm.
There are events in here that will trigger memories of the past for some.

I will not include any spoilers, but I am writing one review for books 1 - 5.

Ok - so I really loved this series. It is so creative. The whole idea of dragons living among humans in disguise --- brilliant! I especially love the link to the legend of St. George and the dragon.

The author does a fantastic job creating a world that feels genuine and relatable while still being surprising. The characters make you want to live there. They grow, learn, and evolve through the series.

The series is packed. It isn't all one time period, it isn't all about solving a mystery (though there are mysteries). It isn't all about a romance (though there are relationships). It isn't all about good vs evil (though there is definitely that). It isn't all magical either.

If you're looking at this for young people, this is a mostly clean series. There are violent scenes and deeply dark villains. There is one... kind of crass scene about a dragon's rear end and a prostate exam that I don't think was necessary.

There was a bit of a... disconnect with book 2. The book starts with totally different characters and a different time period. So, I felt like I had missed something. It was a flashback of history. I sort of wish it had been added somewhere else. My e-book then had a mistake where part of a chapter from later in the book was added to the beginning. So - that just added to the confusion. It all was sorted out and the e-book may even have been corrected by now.

Other than that, there were some awkward phrases occasionally (ie. he shared wise words of wisdom) and some places where I think the author did a great job of show - so he didn't need to tell (ie. A character saying she would do anything to protect her friends when her actions already showed that - very vividly).

I loved this world and will be looking for more books by this author.

“Bentwhistle the Dragon in A Chilling Revelation” is the second volume of Paul Cude’s series and longer book than the first, but not disappointing in the least. The story reintroduces the readers to the characters from the first book. Sometimes this can be a problem because authors can get to caught up in reiterating information that the readers already know and lose the story itself in the retelling but with the fast paced telling and the weaving of familiar characters within a parallel adventure featuring a new character, a new dragon.....Flash. We are taken into this parallel adventure after Peter has a encounter with Mason.

The book takes part after a fight between Mason and Peter. As the book splits seeming that two different tales are being told but In sense a picture is being painted. Struggles Peter faces, a love that grows within deepening for a human, struggles of everyday life, we see unfolding a character growing and struggling along the way. As we see flashes of Flash who is a Crimson Guard investigating the recent troubles in Antartica and works for the king., We see a character who is troubled, tortured from events that may just have changed him forever.

As both tales collide together for a intriguing ending and perfect set up for the next book, as Peter and his friends are drawn into worldwide danger and bigger plot than any could conceive. We meet an old foe, drawn in, dangerous but deadly plot is formed against the Dragon Kind, an old foe, The Naga. With dark forces at work, we can only imagine what is up next for Peter and his Friends.

“Bentwhistle the Dragon in A Chilling Revelation” by Paul Cude is the second book in his great fun dragon themed fantasy adventure series.
The story begins with a thrilling sequence about Aviva, a dragon who infiltrates the human world at the time of Alexander the Great and Ptolemy, trying to interfere with humans and their world. Other dragons have to interfere with her plot and restore what has been disturbed unwarrantedly.
This turns out to be a story told by Peter, a dragon who is currently stuck in human form due to an injury from a precious adventure. The world we live in is that of young dragons at school, part of a society of dragons living underground in a parallel world to humans. There is a king and his council and dragons who can take on human form. The setting is magical, imaginative and great fun. Particularly enjoyable to me were the Laminium Ball matches between the dragons. Cude has given his new world a lot of thought and created a detailed and colourful environment.
The story of this book’s main adventure begins with a mission in the Antarctica and includes a complex terrorism plot. The opponents in this book are nagas, a new race with their own agenda.
Interesting characters, suspenseful action and great humour are plentiful in this book. There is action, adventure and also young love, making this a rich feast of a novel., that should appeal to old and young fantasy fans alike.
I don’t often read fantasy but this is a series I am thoroughly enjoying and one that I’d highly recommend.

In this exciting sequel to Bentwhistle the Dragon in A Threat From the Past, readers will see it start out much as its predecessor did, with a history lesson on how dragons changed the course of man's history.
We then go to the present, with Peter recovering from his injuries and currently out of the loop with his friends...especially Richie!
He again has to play hero when the king needs then to aid in the rescue of a dragon agent missing in Antarctica, but things do go as smoothly as they should with mantras gone horribly wrong and forbidden love abounding in their midst.
And, of course, the are sports mentioned fairly frequently as well. Some may not care fir that, but I, as a former sports-woman, enjoy it.

With everyone a little more grown up and the stakes much higher, this version of Bentwhistle is a little more mature than the last and I think that that adds to its appeal. YA readers will still lap it up, but now some parents will also be able to get in on the high-flying action and sweet emotions in Mr. Cude's excellent sophomore novel.
The feelings between Peter and Richie are very realistic in a book where most everything else is complete fiction, and I think that that is this book's very best feature and it shows the author's talent range quite well.

“Bentwhistle the Dragon in A Chilling Revelation” is the second volume of Paul Cude’s series and is a much longer book than the first, although, thanks to the fast-paced tale, it doesn’t become boring. The story reintroduces the reader to the team from the first book, (the titular Peter Bentwhistle, Tank, Richie and the irascible Gee Tee) as the adventure addresses events after Peter’s encounter with Manson. Expertly interwoven is a parallel adventure featuring a new dragon called Flash who is a covert agent working for the King. Both tales come together and plunge Peter and his new friend into a mystery that intrigues and entertains as they go up against an old enemy possessed of formidable abilities. Dark forces are at work as the story races toward an explosive finale that is a perfect set-up for the next novel in the series.

I mentioned in my review of the first book that Peter Cude’s work would appeal to any lover of the Harry Potter books and I would definitely insist in this with this tale. At times it reads like a classic secret agent tale, albeit with fantastic creatures instead of the accustomed spies, and reminded me also of many of the Alistair MacLean novels I read years ago. Definitely recommend as a thrilling adventure read.

This book is the second book in the series which follows up with Peter and his friends Tank and Richie and their quest. Following his near death experience at the talons of the evil dragon Manso, Peter Bentwhistle finds himself on the slow path to recovery. Helped by his dragon friends, Tank and Richie in their human forms, he finds comfort in his new-found friendship with the dragon king, but the three friends are soon drawn into a deadly plot, when a straight forward meeting with the monarch sees them helping an injured dragon agent, straight back from his mission in Antarctica with news of a devastating encounter with another ancient race.

Very interesting read and didn’t fail to intrigue me. Quest, battles, and magic. Fantasy. Interested in Dragons and love the world of magic and the creatures in those realms? You might be interested in these!

The beginning and middle this book were great. A great adventure and the writing tightened up from the first book. Then I hit 85%.
"You could almost guarantee one or other of his teammates would forget either their towel and/or part of their clothing, normally one of the younger ones, and for that they would either get fined, or win the dreaded award...the one that involved wearing the pink cowboy hat and matching pink skirt."

This is a hateful trope involving the shaming of women. I will not read further in this book. I will delete all Pauls books and not purchase from Paul again.
