In the pulse pounding continuation of the Voodoo Plague series, John, Rachel and Dog have escaped from Atlanta, finding refuge at an Air Force Base in Tennessee. After being recalled to active duty, John strikes a deal with the Army that will help him rescue his wife in Arizona, but all of his plans are quickly put in jeopardy as a second wave of infection rips through the surviving population.
Dirk Patton is the best selling author of the V Plague series. You can email him at dirk@dirkpatton.com or find him on the internet at www.DirkPatton.com or Twitter @DirkPatton or on Facebook at www.facebook.com/RealDirkPatton
This is ZA horror at its absolute best. Dirk Patton simply is a master of this genre, and i can say this series is proving to be the best i have ever read. Its a non stop adrenaline rush, with the most superb characters, dialogue, and story.
Well, I thought the first one was good, but HOLY CRAP! Picks up exactly where the first one left off so you have to read them in order, but OMG this has got to be the best of the best! It grabs you immediately and doesn't let go, just like a good zombie should! Love the premise, the characters and everything about it. The author lets the story build the characters rather than trying to describe them, and if you look at all the best authors, that's how they do it. The characters just develop over time as you get to know them and by the end of the book you feel they could walk right off the page and come have a beer with you. Semi-spoiler alert: I really like how John is developing as he moves through the apocalypse. In the first book it took him a while to remember and rely on his past training, but he is becoming the real bad-ass he needs to be to keep surviving. Bravo! This series is like crack! I want book 3 now!!!
Crucifixion by Dirk Patton is the second book of the Voodoo Plague series. It is very violent, gorey and rough. It's not for the faint of heart. This book continues with John, Rachel and Dog being rescued and taken to an Air Force base in Kentucky. John is called back to active duty with the rank of Captain but the Colonel gives him a field promotion to major. He's given a mission to report to Fort Campbell and get a helicopter to Arizona to get 2 scientist who have been working for an antidote for the infected. Before that can happen there is a second wave of people becoming infected. They start to evacuate the base. A huge plane lands as they busily clean the runway of the infected. Everyone gets into the jet while a helicopter hovers in the air to pick up John, Rachel and dog. Several infected females run into the runway behind the jet and get sucked up into the engines. The plane explodes knocking the rescue helicopter to the ground. Everyone is killed. John races to the armory and loads the humvee with all the weapons munitions and meals he can fit. They take off abandoning the base. This is only a taste of the action packed into this book. Read to see what else happens.
John, Rachel and Dog are back with another trip through horrors the likes of which most people aren't built to survive. The infected have a stranglehold on the world that the living despair of ever being able to break, especially when some of their fellow breathers turn up the crazy to levels that are nearly impossible to believe.
Book two carries us on another journey that keeps us turning pages, hoping and praying that this doesn't happen in the real world. I can't wait to see what happens in book three although I've said it before and I'm saying it again - If Dog dies we riot! \m/
OMG! Couldn't get any better! Crucifixion picks up where Voodoo Plague ended. It was so seamless, you would have thought it was one story. Dog is awesome! John is who I would want to save me if I was in trouble and Rachel makes the perfect sidekick/partner. For some reason, I want to see them together but John is adamant about getting to his wife Katie. Can't wait to see if they are reunited. Is she okay? Was she infected? I can't wait for the third book.
Awesome. Just as good as the first book which is saying something. It is non-stop action, and you start to wonder if this guy is ever going to get a break. The villians in this book are scary because they are so real. Great Book. Read It!
Wonderful book, fantastic story. I chose 5 stars because the book merits it. It is hard to put down, exciting and enjoyable to read, and an all around quality experience. I have read a lot of zombie/apocalypse fiction, and this is right on top.
After a second volume of airplane reading, I can say I was surprised by the twist this story took. Someone gets the titular treatment at the hands of a band of religious fanatics, of course, which was not surprising because in the first book, most survivors of the zombie virus behaved even worse than the ravenous hordes. The novelty came up when our heroes, John, Rachel, and Dog, stumbled into a still-human city with a zombie migration hot on their heels.
The nature and extent of uninfected territory is, perhaps, clearer to the author than it was to me, and everyone's goal becomes evacuating the city further into the safe zone before the zombies arrive. Somewhat unconvincingly, John takes a brief tour of the city and comes up with most of the ambitious evacuation/defense plan, while the exciting execution of the plan is somewhat more believable--especially when things start going apocalyptically wrong (another recurring series theme). Predictably, our heroes become separated from the rest of the survivors, resetting them for the next installation of the serial (book 3).
John, Rachel and Dog continue their trek to Arizona. While in Tenn, John is recalled to the service and promoted to the rank of major. It doesn't take long before the zombie hoards overrun the base and people set off on their own. Continuing west, the trio find themselves fighting for survival from both zombies and humans - almost non-stop. They meet others en route who join them and eventually end up in a town of friendlies. John takes charge and organizes their defenses. Thousands of zombies arrive and the friendlies fight to the death - providing time for others to escape on a train going west.
The story ends before the battle is finished, leaving readers to buy the next book in the series to see the outcome. I'm going to be one of them and look forward to seeing what happens to the trio.
The series seems to go downhill from here. The military doesn't like our hero! But wait, they do? Our hero then seems to get even more badass as he goes and saves more people and blah blah blah. Do you see my point? The story devolves from the initial exciting survival, let's get out of danger to you need help? I help. And the relationship between the guy and the girl was sooooooo weird. The girl is all like "I have nowhere to go, let me just stick to you." And the guy was like, "Okay, sure whatever you want, but if you slow me down, I leave you behind." But now the guy is like, "Hey, I trust you. I somehow now value your opinion in military matters EVEN THOUGH you are a civilian who still can't shoot a gun accurately." Also, doggo. Yeah, doggo goes where doggo pleases apparently.
Just got Books 1-2-3 in a boxed set. I love this series so far. The characters are so good, and Dog is one of my favourite characters of all time. There are so many breathless moments , skin of your teeth adventures, narrow escapes that these books are hard to put down. I read almost all night the first night I started reading Book 1 of the V Plague series. The other nights, two o'clock was my quitting times. I highly recommend this exciting series to any who like post apocalyptic books. ( I just bought Book IV, and it is terrific, too!
There isn't a lot I need to say about this book it has + 200 five star reviews, yes I'm just now starting this series which is now 17 books. I don't know if I'll get to 17 but right now on book 2,it's been a wild Gorey, Carnage filled Adventure that is Nonstop Action with some wonderful character development can't wait to see where the next few books go with our main hero and Friends
Prepare to be totally immersed in a life and death struggle.... I shed several dozen tears, wanted to scream in horror and rage, and felt a thrill of pride at the tenacity and perseverance of those struggling and fighting for survival... You bleed with these characters and you cheer as they continue to fight against the overwhelming odds.... Always hoping and moving forward...
Usually book two is never as good as book one. Part of the reason for this is because the major horror has been revealed. That shock is over and can’t be duplicated. But it takes a lot for John, Rachel and Dog to evade the infected. Then there’s the dangerous survivors. I’m looking forward to book 3.
It just kept going from book 1 and I LOVED IT!!! This book kept me glued to my seat and turning pages as fast as I could. I'm already enjoying book 3! You need to read book 1 before reading this to understand the characters and story - so definitely pick that up. I really love our main characters and have enjoyed where the story has gone - is going.
Wow. How could the second book be just as, if not more exciting than the first? Such a fun, scary, and nail biting experience. Read it, then maybe read it again. This no drag your foot tale. Things happen and they happen lightning fast in the apocalypse. There is so much to this series and I love it. Can't wait to read the third book
When will John, Rachel and Dog catch their breath? They have been fighting since Atlanta and it's time for them to regroup and get back in the game. This is an action packed book, and every moment is a nail-biter. John doing everything he can to save people, he and Rachel and up on the short end of the stick. This is a great read.
I am an avid fan of apocalypse books and there's only one other author who has sucked me in and has made me want to stay up all night to continue reading and find out what happens...holy cow...I LOVE THIS SERIES! Bravo Mr. Patton!
Great read... I'll read the next book but I am afraid it is going to be just more of the same ; run and fight. I had to stop reading just to take a breath and rest. I don't know how the characters keep going. They are starting to seem like SuperPeople.
Violence out the wazoo and yet you can't help wondering what will be hapening next. You couldn't expect any more from the hero and heroine even if they were James Bond and Wonder Woman. They are like the Energizer Bunny that just keeps on going and going in spite of what happens.
I'm almost speechless and I don't know what quite to say. Hell of a ride. The ending of this one, Book 2, was devistating... Just as it was meant to be. Now I've got to hurry on to book 3!
I felt that Mr. Patton does a good job of getting to the storyline and keeping it going. The characters are normal people caught in very bad circumstances. Just as in real life some overcome and more bcc e on and some finally succumb.
Book two really good....starting number 3 soon Hopefully the action won’t be predictable. So far so good. Some of the battle wounds are starting to seem unbelievable however.
I had never heard of Dork Patton until I saw number 1 in this series on kindle. I am happy to report that his work is impressive. Excellent storyteller. Highly recommend this author.
