The Betwixt #1

The Betwixt #1

Rate this book
The Betwixt is a sci-fi soap opera with a dash of philosophy. It follows a space diner waitress as she sets out to discover her true origin, an adventure that sees her set against the most legendary of foes, takes her to the edges of the galaxy, and finally into the arms of one very handsome but stern Commander Cole.

...

Mini is a diner waitress in a space bar. She has a flouncy skirt, a holopin, and a pretty little apron. She also, apparently, has a mysterious alien past; a past that comes knocking on her door in the form of a tiny red creature called Od. According to Od, Mini is all that stands between the galaxy and an invasion by terrible, soul-sucking creatures from the in-between dimensions. As Mini's galactic experience to-date revolves around serving drinks and picking up after customers, she finds that very unlikely.

The only problem is that Od is right. So Mini reaches for the closest thing at hand – which just so happens to be a frying pan – and gives saving the galaxy a go. She isn't alone, however; she's caught the eye of a rather handsome Galactic Military Commander, and he isn't going to take his eyes off her until he knows exactly what's going on.

I rate is book 2 stars :( I really wanted to give it more stars but I just couldn't do it. I really liked the idea of the story and I understand that Odette had to put down a foundation for the story but it just didn't work for me. The way it all came together feel like to much was missing in the story and it just leaves you hanging at the end. Plus this story isn't going to be one that will stick with me. I will forget all about it by tomorrow.

I found this to be an amusing book, although if I had know it was only half the story I may not have purchased it. I found Mini to portray a perfectly hilarious (in her thoughts) young lady who is confused by...well, everything and she makes that very apparent. This half of the story does set up for what I assume will be an interesting ending and I hope to purchase and read that today. Though a bit disjointed, the story was easy to follow and fun to read.

Worthy to be read but you must be patient

This was my first book by Odette Bell.

Overall, I enjoyed the concept of the book. The characters and their interaction was great. You can tell there is a lot of imagination and reality through this as you read. The way this is written brings every character to life. You can see everyone clearly because of the details Author Bell uses. The action was great. The storyline coincided with the happenings and the conditions where the story takes place. I love the way the Tarians spoke. That made me giggle. Rain man freaked me out a bit. Just imagine all those ants. *shivers* Crag'tal, Kropel OD and Hipop...I fell in love with them. I loved the effect they had on Mini. Mini...I loved her description. Her character was complex. I had a feeling she was more than a diner waitress. Jason...Somehow you knew he would be an important staple to Mini. They play off of each other well.

The most difficult part of the adventure was just getting through the book. There were so many mistakes in grammar and punctuation. These should have been caught in editing. They were so numerous, I almost stopped reading the book. It took me longer than usual to read the book, but I really liked the storyline. So, I kept going and now I need to read Part Two. Oh, warning! Cliffhanger.

Like I said, there is a really good story here. If you have the patience and fix the grammar and punctuation in your head, you will enjoy the book. Author Bell has a great imagination!

Full of action, excitement

Full of action, excitement

I love this book. When I started reading I didn't think I could get involved in all the characters, but oh it's been so much fun! There is Mimi that is half human, and Commander Jason Cole, Of course we have Od the Kroplin, he sure can make me laugh and he is the one that told Mimi what she was and then we have Crag'tal' the Crag that helps Mimi, we have the Hantari and Mercenaries. Just wait until you meet the Rainman, I thought he was hilarious but I might not like him that much either. It appears she is the last of her kind and has to fight the Twixts. This is a must read! you will be pulled into the book and not want to put it down.

I would have loved to have given this a higher rating but honestly it took me three attempts to finish the book. The characters lack development, the plot is a bit scattered and while the book has a great premise it just isn't executed well enough for me to give a higher rating. I would recommend it to the youth age but somehow I don't think it will get or keep their attention any better than it did mine.

This book improves as you are swept into the world that Odette has created. Very similar ideas to the 'Plain Jane' book, but I thought 'The Betwixt' had better character development and plot. Something to keep you entertained when sleep eludes you!

Horrible Editing

Very badly edited. While the story showed promise of a great plot, the disjointed editing became a nightmare. I would love to see
this resolved so I could read it.
