Wall Street Journal bestselling author SJ Scott wanted to be Luke Skywalker when he grew up.
Unfortunately his complete lack of physical grace and introverted mannerism's kept the earth from having their own Jedi Knight to battle the Sith menace.
Steve “SJ” Scott was born and raised in New Jersey. After finishing college with a degree in psychology he knew he needed to further his education or work on his latte making skills.
During a short stint in US Air Force, Scott was able to get his Master’s in business and then moved on to conquer the business world.
Scott then spent a couple of years working for a company not unlike the company depicted in Mike Judge’s film, “Office Space”. After doing his share of “TPS” reports, Scott swore he would never work for anyone but himself.
He spent the next few years making this happen. Making a decent living online and eventually pivoting to writing books, blogging and even podcasting.
Scott has written over 30 books, most of them in the "self-improvement" genre. An area that he is personally passionate about.
His books have been published in 12 different languages. So he is well on his way to world domination. However, in his heart of hearts he knows he will soon have to venture out into the universe and defeat the Sith menace.
Great Step by step guide for creating effective goals
I've known about creating S.M.A.R.T. Goals for a while but S.J. Scott has added so much value to my existing knowledge about setting, achieving, and reviewing my goals. This book is a great resource for anyone looking to improve their life. Having effective goals gives you a North star in your daily grind.
Quick read, the content was simple and easy to follow. There wasn't anything particularly new in the content, but it was a good reminder of best practice when goal-setting.

SMART-modellen tycker jag mig känna igen från Per Måhls föreläsningar tidigt 2000-tal. Att ett må(h)l ska vara Specifikt, Mätbart...
Some good information if you're new to SMART goals or just looking for a process to move forward with them. Nothing ground breaking here, and nothing that can't be gleaned from reading websites or articles online ... but it's a solid 10-step (plus sub-steps) and a quick and easy read that's worth your time if you're interested in the topic.
This book is a great action guide for those who are committed to achieving more. Just follow the steps, get an accountability partner or two, and you're on your way. I will definitely recommend this book to clients.
Very useful, but it was quite repetitive and need be a book at all. There were many allusions to Getting Things Done though, to the extent where I felt like I should have bought that instead.
Very practical, clear language, and motivational! The book provides a very clear path to set up goals and it seems like a very doable system, not the convoluted program that others offer. It is a very fast read.
It's a very well design guide towards completing goals. Detailing every step you should take for reaching your goals and even telling you how to react if any unexpected thing happens in the way.
A super informative, helpful, encouraging, and thorough read. I wasn't sure if I should just use internet articles for more info when I bought this book, but now I'm super glad I purchased it and gave it a chance. Learned a lot, and it's already been so helpful!
The information was not presented in clear manner... Too many steps involved in each one of the 10 major steps... The only thing I learned from this book is concept of making yearly goals and dividing it into quarter ones.
I love SJ Scott and his writing. His books are always full of actionable steps to be attained for a specific goal. This book really gave me tips as to how to make my goal making process more effective.
I loved this book! I love how I can make goals out of everything and focus my time on my, again, goals! It is simple how we can work on making different habits that will patch the road into our goal! Focusing on the goal will help us feel that we are achieving something! We are putting the efforts on the making and achieving the goals and even if we don't achieve them, we put all the effort and that is all that matters. We learn on the way, we improve on the way, and developing habits is honestly really difficult but following the guide of the author, we could make it!
This is a great book to get you started on goal setting. The author uses many examples to show the readers how a smart goal looks which I think is helpful
Simple, anh? ... maybe, but maybe not. Proper goal setting is going to involve some discussion of deeper levels of psychological motivations. You're going to talk about fear, suppressed feelings, what do you really want out of life, etc. Scott does talk about these things but his explanations are a little rough going. They seemed like topics he found himself forced to write about, so you, forced to read about. These parts of the book were not enjoyable. Also, his coverage of outcome goals vs performance goals was a little shallow. Reading his examples of each left me wondering which was which. A simple internet search of the subject does a better job of explaining. (I know this is a harsh review). One last thing, if you're going to set goals for yourself in these so called logical areas of your life, be imaginative. His examples, like praying 10 minutes every night before bed, volunteering at soup kitchens and actually setting time aside to tell your significant other that you love him or her seemed to lack all spontaneity. Mind mapping should lead to goals much more interesting and personally satisfying. My opinion. A simple book shouldn't be 10 steps of this, followed by six steps of this and 7 steps of this and on and on and on. That's not a simplification, that's a tedious blood letting. This is a powerful subject and it didn't get treated so.
Like many of Scott’s books this one was fairly clear and concise, although in places it was a bit repetitive. He makes it clear from the start there is no magic formula to achieving your goals and there are no short cuts. It takes hard work and dedication to be successful. This book provides you with a solid general 10 step framework to help get you started. Of all the books available on this topic this is a pretty good one to start with.
