When disaster strikes, the only thing you can count on is yourself!
Noah and Emma Burton have traded the sand and surf of their Hawaiian home for a chilly stay in Alaska, and Noah isn't happy about it. His father may be a volcano expert, but why did they have to travel to the coldest, grayest place on earth when there are millions of volcanoes near Honolulu? Noah thinks he's in for the most boring vacation of his life.
He couldn't have been more wrong! A day trip to a remote island turns deadly when a once-dormant volcano suddenly sputters to life in an eruption of epic proportions. Now Noah, Emma, and their new neighbor Alex must fight to survive rivers of molten lava and clouds of toxic ash if they want to make it off the island alive....
"In the book Volcano Blast there were 3 kids and they thought they were on a mountain but it was a VOLCANO! At one pont in the story they needed to take breath, so they went into a cave. While they were in the cave, the valcano blasted and a rock came down and blocked off the cave. Would you like to go climbing on a volcano? I wouldn't, because if it erupts, you could get hurt really bad. Do you think that they learned their lesson? I think that they did." -Cadee, age 8.
An okay book. Covering the reason is probably made for. Interesting information about volcanoes in it. Plenty of interesting vocabulary. Great for reading groups in school but not a super amazing story. It was fine.
A great series for 2nd and 3rd grades. Noah and Emma experience just about every bad thing associated with volcanic eruptions, but have the knowledge they need to survive. Facts about historic volcanic eruptions and what to do during an eruption are included at the back of the book.
Review: My son who is 3 1/2 saw this at the library and asked for this to be our next read a loud. He instantly fell in love with it and looked forward to reading it each day and was disappointed when we didn’t have the time. He is already looking forward to getting the next one from the library. This book is full of disaster as the title hints at. Everything that can go wrong does and kept us on the edge of our seat. This book also includes ways to survive a volcano if you live near one. My son has chosen to put the winter one on hold next and that may come in handy for us as we live in Wisconsin. No where near a volcano.

Elena.

Genre: informational Age group: 3rd-6th This book is a great one to read when trying to learn about volcanoes. It has a funny tail between two boys, living and then going through volcanoes it’s educational and funny and I love the illustrations are done so well and realistic.
I really appreciate this series. I have mentioned before about the realistic scenarios but I also appreciate the realism of kids being kids, upset about moving, feeling uncomfortable having a cousin visit that you don't know well....etc. Just so well done!
