I was very eager to read the third installment of the Waiting for Dusk trilogy, while at the same time, I was reluctant to have the trilogy come to an end, and so I kept putting it off! But I have to say, this book was worth my anticipation.
I will warn readers that the book gets off to a slow start, as couple Drew and Kate spend most of the first half of the book visiting the past which technically they have already lived (which I was not sure was wise, as changing something in that past the second time around will effect the future, something that seemingly every character who knows about the time travel gives voice to in this book and yet no one heeds). There are also many characters in the books that are related to one another, and many pages are given over to talking about who is related to who and in what way (this is not just in the usual way, as people have been coming back to live in the past and others coming forward to live in the future, creating all kinds of tangles in this large family tree). But be prepared that when the action starts, it does not let up until the last page. In the previous two books, there was really only one adversary: the nefarious Tyson, Kate's former boyfriend and stalker who keeps showing up like a bad penny. Some of this is Kate's inability to really break all ties( she keeps trying to remain friends with him and makes excuses for him, even after he does increasingly violent things, which still happens in this book--read STALKER). But in Stealing Time, we add on another villain, this one from the past: Drew's gangster father, Nicholas, who had a future mapped out for his son that Kate's appearance in the past derails. Nicholas is not happy about that, and when Drew happens to give his father a little extra info the second time around in the past, Nicholas uses that information to change history.
I don't want to spoil the best parts, so I'll stop there, but bravo, Nancy Pennick!

This is the third book in the Waiting for Dusk trilogy. Kate and Drew are back and facing the problems of a couple torn between two time periods. Kate and Drew’s love is stronger than ever. They are trying to live as normal a life as possible but things don’t go smoothly for the pair.
Tyson is back and he has taken Drew’s copy of the book and makes an appearance at the Canyon that the couple has to deal with while not letting on to Tyson that he is not just dreaming.
Once Ty is dealt with, the couple finds more trouble and it is much closer to home. While on their New York visit in the past with Drew’s family, Kate makes a startling discovery and the whole visit takes on a sinister turn.
All is not completely bad though as Kate returns to present day New York and makes a discovery that changes her life and Drew’s. A sort of miracle takes place for Drew that helps him deal with the loss of his family.
Dealing with life in two different eras has more difficulties than the couple can imagine and they spend a lot of time trying to deal with the outcomes of some of their decisions in the past which could have terrible effects on the present.

Kate is starting to become a young woman who is independent and smart and doesn’t need anyone to take care of her. She has lost her naïve ways and is a woman ready to take action. But she wisely realizes that she is stronger with her family and friends to support her.
Drew is still the caring boyfriend but he is putting the pressure on Kate to get married in the present as they have done in 1927. He is a product of his era and wants to do the right thing. His prolonged visit to his family with Kate shows us a side of Drew that I was surprised to see but it made him even more interesting.
Tyson is his same old self, unable to accept the fact that Kate loves Drew and not him. When he steals Drew’s book, it puts the whole time travel gang in a tailspin.
Lindsey and Anna, Kate’s best friends, are still there and supportive as always. Anna receives a gift that no one expects and Lindsey and her family suffer a great tragedy.
I don’t want to give away too many details of this book. Just let me say, it is the best of the trilogy and I don’t want the story of Kate and Drew to end. I want to hear more about this young couple.
If you have read the other books, this is not to be missed. If you haven’t you should run out and get them and treat yourself to a wonderful story.

"Stealing Time" is the third book in the Waiting For Dusk series.
Kate and Drew are graduating high school and getting ready to start college in Arizona. Well, until Kate's old pal Tyson ruins their plans by stealing Drew's copy of The Book, forcing them to stay in Ohio and close by to keep an eye on him.
Meanwhile, Kate and Drew continue their adventures back in 1927, recreating events from the previous year. But when one thing changes, a domino effect occurs. Now Kate finds herself rethinking Drew's commitment to her. Can their love survive his family? Can she escape the past and return to her prsent?
I wanted to love this book because I love the first two so much, but it fell a little short for me. If you've read the first two I say absolutely read this one because the stuff that happens back in 1927 is very interesting and worth the read. But the stuff that happened in present day really is what fell short.
Tyson steals the book, everyone knows he did, but instead of just grabbing the book when Kate sees it in his bedroom, she runs away. Why would she do that? And everyone knows he has the book - Drew, her parents, Maya, Carl, etc. - yet nobody thinks to just go take it from him? They just hope it'll work itself out?
So, with the book, of course Tyson ends up back in 1927. Kate has to stop him from doing anything stupid and from ruining the past. But again, it could have been prevented if she just stuck up to him and took the book back right away.
And speaking of sticking up to him, Kate drives me insane because she keeps forgetting how much Tyson has hurt her and keep's letting him back into her life. I have to keep reminding myself that she's a teenage girl and teenage girl's don't always think rationally.
So.... in short. Read for the 1927 stuff, try not to pull your hair out over Tyson and his stupid antics and Kate's teenage reactions.
If there's a fourth book I hope Kate realizes by that point that Tyson can NOT be in her life anymore!

Nancy Pennick brings us the third installment of her "Waiting for Dusk" series, Stealing Time. The continuing story of Kate and Drew finds us at the end of Kate's senior year and her impatience to getting back to Arizona and on to college.
Having not read the first two books in the series, I was at a disadvantage in not knowing the backstory. But that didn't matter, the book is a great stand-alone.
After I got past the initial confusion, I really did enjoy this book. The trickery, confusion, secrecy, longing and urge to travel back into time just combine to create a gripping story!
There's an interesting twist and turn yet an undeniable love story. It's plain to see that Drew and Kate were meant to be together despite the strange span of time between them. I couldn't even imagine going back in time or being brought from a time in the past to the present.
The differences in speech, technology and the world would be so amazing and unbelievable.
I definitely will be checking out the first two books!!!
