Witch Warrior #6

Witch With a Problem

Rate this book
Shifters to the left, gangsters to the right… Cait Keane and her dragon partner Aza are stuck in the middle.

The problems are mounting for the newest member of Boston’s US Marshals. Her coven is pressed by territorial shifters, and the wolves have a secret partner who has plans of her own.

Cait might even be the target of the assassin she helped arrest – before his escape. Or maybe it is just a lone criminal with a grudge who’s after Judge Flynn.

Cait’s not buying it. Everything seems connected, and every new door that opens just brings more trouble.

An invisible menace on Oriceran. An art thief in Boston. Most frightening of all, a growing romantic connection to Shane, her mysterious partner in crime, who believes she’s someone she’s not.

It will take everything she has to untangle the knots. And every bit of help her allies can provide. Fortunately, her sisters Brianna and Aisling and her fellow Marshals are at her back.

Plus, of course, Aza, and her deepening connection to the Dragon that makes them both more dangerous to their foes.

As the balance of power in the city shifts unpredictably between the Dragons and the Roses, the path forward is cloudy, and beset with dangers. And lingering in the shadows, the threat of the Rhazdon artifacts lurks over everything, always at the corner of her mind. The stakes are high - the risks, higher.

The US Marshal with something extra wouldn’t have it any other way.

I’m TR Cameron, science fiction author. I’ve been an avid consumer of the genre since I was six, I think, when I broke the seal on my Dad’s copies of the Asimov Foundation books. It’s been all downhill since then.

I have a day job that I love most days, and writing is pretty much my only consistent hobby. When I find time that’s not already filled with my wife, my daughter, my writing, my work, or dodging the affections of our clowder of cats, you can find me playing video games (currently Dishonored 2 – I’m a little behind the times on this one), watching things (Marvel movies, American Gods, Agents of Shield, Justified, The Expanse, Gotham), playing board games, or, naturally, reading.

My favorite authors in Sci-Fi are David Weber, Jean Johnson, John Scalzi, CJ Cherryh, and the giants: Asimov, Pohl, Bear, Heinlein, etc. I read a lot in other genres too, and am a big fan of Matthew Woodring Stover, Michael Anderle, Jim Butcher, and I could go on and on and on. If I had to choose one favorite, though, it would be Stephen R. Donaldson, whose Thomas Covenant series was transformative for me.

Probably my pie-in-the-sky dream for my writing career is that someone would make a movie or television show of my books and I could be a part of the production. Sure, unlikely, but a clowder-dodger can dream, right? My more practical dream is that I can keep writing and both entertaining and connecting with my readers for years and years to come.

I don't know how he manages to keep everything straight in his head, but T R Cameron certainly knows how to write a book, that has more twists and turns than Spaghetti Junction!

Well, of course, I read his Authors' Notes, so know that half the things that happen, are a surprise to him, too, so that makes me happy, knowing I'm not the only one surprised at what's happening to Cait and Aza, most of the time.

As usual, this book was filled with awesome fight scenes of every description, some great James Bond-type moments, and some computer stuff that had me in total awe.

I'm NOT Computer literate, so I admire anyone who is, and the scenes where Sabrina, the technomancer neighbour and friend to Cait and Aza, uses her techno skills, paired with her magic, are really awesome to me.

On a side note, I was REALLY happy that the constant 'pretend' dissing of Cait, by just about everyone, was barely present in this book, and it made it soooo much more pleasant to read!

So much is happening in this particular book, that it'll be easier for you to just go and buy the whole series to read, than for me to mention it all - just know that this, book six, is more awesome than the previous five books!

So, I've finished this part of Cait and Aza's story, and it's time to go straight onto book seven: 'Witch With A Challenge', so I'll do that the minute I post this review and, once I've read it, too, then I'll catch you on the flip side, to let you know what I think of it!

Lets go gamboling!

Stealing that line from another LMBPN author’s story seems appropriate, since theft plays such a key role in several of these plot lines. It’s also appropriate given the fast-paced, one might say frenetic, development of those same plot lines.

This is a convoluted and addictive storyline that only continues to get better, even as does Cameron’s story telling. I cannot stress enough just how much I am enjoying both watching his growth as an author and the story he is building, itself.

The characters truly come to life, here. No longer mere vehicles for snark, or puppets filling a role in the story, each of them, even the ancillary characters are fully-realized individuals with whom we can identify. I’m looking forward to getting to know the real villains behind it all when we finally meet them properly. He’s laid the groundwork for that already in this episode by letting us into the mind of the Alpha.

In the meantime, just sit back and enjoy. And if you disagree with any if this, as Cait would say, shut it! Lol. Until next time…

5 jobs on the go

Book 6 the journey continues, I like this series it's original but I do find her character questioning? It's clear she is good to her core BUT this going undercover (when her boss don't know) and kind of dating shane (is he a undercover FBI or CIA or just a bad guy that's not totally bad) kind of makes you wonder about her.plus everything is her job she has two jobs plus the responsibilities at home and then she has her vigilante work (think batman or arrow)
She is also a team player so I question why she don't ask her team (the one with Angel and co not the marshals) to help her back home with the shifters, after all it's their job to protect.Even help with the dragons problem forgot about that one, it kind of makes her look like she thinks only she can do it all.

War on the Roses

Cait goes as an escort to a party to steal. The information she gets Shane will reveal a whole new world of magical items that need to be out of the hands of citizens. Sabrina uncovers something about Shane's contacts that is very alarming & connects him to a group that are very dangerous. Shifters discuss the plan the witch they're working with told them to follow. If they don't she refuses to help them. The roses are moving in on dragons territory. Plus they are targeting their businesses online. The dragons decide to make a move that if pulled off will really impact the roses. That's all I will say because I don't like to ruin the ending. It definitely takes a different turn & I can't wait to see what happens next.

Binge reading

Love this series totally binge reading. The fast pace of the story pulls you in I have not put this down. But given the calibre of the authors what a brilliant read.I don't add spoilers only the recommendation to read .You will not be disappointed but make sure You have food and refreshments organised. I have not put this down and make no apology . That's the reason you can order take out.
The book from the start is not a book you have to get in to or allow a chapter of more to like it. Not many books I leave a review for struggle with my hands. But this is worth the difficulty . Read this series it's excellent The characters are great and come alive and who could not like a dragon with a princess with cattitude.Enjoy

Cait and Az are at it again, fighting on all fronts. But things are changing for the worse.

Cait has been pulled everywhere again but has added more magic to her and Az’s protection. She now has a dagger that is sentient. Her sisters have strengthened their magic. And she is becoming attracted to someone that is less than honest. Wilson has teamed up with an other assassin and this could get a whole lot nastier as someone starts using shadow magic to the mix. The fox says there is more danger. What next!

Lots going on

Cait and Aza never get any rest. They have their Marshal job, the job in her coven, working with the dragons to try and find their enemy and trying to figure out who's helping the shifters. She is also trying to start a romance in her free time. There is always plenty of action and lots of humor in this series and I am looking forward to the next book to see what happens and if any of her problems get resolved.

Captivating and intriguing urban series .

Cameron has once again created an Earth and Oriceron story to blend magic with modern guerilla warfare. The twist is that you begin to.like some of the bad guys along the way, even though you know they're just pure evil! The storyline is good, characters are real and the adventures are top quality. Terrific read.

The mob, the witches, a Dragon, can wait to see who wins

Started reading this series because of my fascination with witches. (The charmed ones, bewitched, Buffy and her multitude of minions. Aging me I know but it is a light alternative to what is on or airwaves and online today.

Cait, Samantha, Aza,

Cait, a witch in Boston, is a Federal Marshal with a Dragon sidekick, Aza. She uses a neighbor, Samantha for her infomancer needs. There is a suspected hit in the works on a local mob boss. Also her family is in a struggle in Ireland with the local wolf shifters.

Characterization and plotting are excellent.

The Witch Warrior series by T.R. Cameron is a thrilling urban fantasy saga that follows Cait Keane, a US Marshal who is also a witch, and her dragon partner Aza. They face various dangers and enemies in a world where magic and crime collide. The series has many sub-plots and characters, such as the rival gangs of Roses and Dragons, the assassin who targets Cait, the thief Shane who wants her to join his crew, the SOG's who hunt down magicals, the mysterious group that includes Cara and Diana, the Marshals who work with Cait, the coven and shifters conflict, and the magical dragons from Ociceran. The series is fast-paced and action-packed, with never a dull moment for Cait and Aza.

I'm not certain why this series isn't as appealing to me as Cameron's usual offerings. There are a lot of story lines that are ongoing - no (or very little) closure with each book. Basically, Cait (MC) is living 3 separate lives.

Changes

Problems at work. Boss, loopy, need to change the boss for a better boss. Time changes and a new boss inserted. Will this boss be better than the last one? Only time will tell.

Over too fast...

The book that is, not the series. Thankfully Book 7 awaits, or at least I hope it does. I much prefer to read a series from start to end in a continuous stream.

Werewolves and gangsters

Hunting for the werewolves to see where they are on the weekend. Protecting a judge during the week. Then ending up at the Rose’s club when it is attacked.

Lots of action. Not quite sure where the criminal persona will go. The officer and sister side are always entertaining. The narrator did a nice job!
