I’m the personal shopper for Mr. Grumpy, the grouchiest guy on the planet. My name is Avery Warner, owner and sole employee of Too Busy to Shop, a personal shopping empire (a girl can dream) for those who simply don’t have time to look for the perfect gifts for their loved ones. I cater to clientele from celebrities to busy moms to business executives. No shopping gig is too large or too small. I excel at finding gifts to delight even your eccentric Uncle Ralph or fussy Aunt Gertrude. Unfortunately, my shopping expertise is eclipsed by my tendency to attract catastrophe. No matter how hard I try, disaster follows me around. Wearing mismatched shoes to an interview? Yep, don’t ask. Popping a button on my blouse in front of a hunky businessman? Not talking about it. Driving into a pond? Banished from my mind as if it didn’t happen. There’s also the small matter of falling for one of my clients. Despite my best efforts, I’m attracted to Mr. Grumpy. The stuffy businessman’s scowls turn my knees to mush, and when he turns those grouchy eyes on me, my heart melts. Every now and then I get a glimmer of hope that he’s attracted to me too. But can I get him to fall for me without setting his suit jacket on fire? Shopping for the Grump is Book 1 in the hilarious new romantic comedy series, Too Busy for Love. If you love Hallmark movies with the perfect blend of laugh-out-loud scenes and heart-touching moments, this book is for you. Fans of Emma St. Clair, Ellie Hall, and Savannah Scott will enjoy this new series of clean and wholesome stories filled with romance and comedy. This book may be read as a stand-alone.
Leah Busboom wanted to become an author since the day she learned how to read! She specializes in the Romance genre because she loves a good story with a happy ending. Her books are known for their heartwarming stories; intriguing characters and hilarious real life situations that will make you want to laugh out loud.
Leah currently lives in Colorado with her wonderful husband, her "Blue Bomber" bicycle and a hundred bunny rabbits that roam free in the neighborhood.
Love me a good grump, but he was a bit too light on his grumpiness for me. Still enjoyed it. RTC
What to expect: ~ dual 1st person POV ~ quirky, accident prone FMC ~ no steamage
Narration notes: Well, they mostly did fine, but their opposite sex voices...oof. Daughter and I listed while driving to the grocery store and we both had a good chuckle when he said 'giggle, giggle, snort, snort'🤣 would it have been better if he actually did those things? Probably not.
Shopping for the Grump was a wonderful read. It starts off with LAUGH OUT LOUD moments and as the pages turn, I did have some tears. The characters are wonderful and quirky in their own ways. I would have read it in one sitting, but sleep was needed for the next day:) Highly recommend this sweet and fun rom-com!
This clean, sweet romance was such a nice change of pace from some of my most recent reads, non-fiction and mess-with-your mind thrillers. Shopping for the Grump, first in series, follows Avery, a small personal shopper business owner, as she attempts to land new client Gavin. Gavin is...well, grumpy. But behind that gruff exterior is a man still healing from the death of his father and trying to fill his shoes as company CEO.
It didn't take too long for Gavin to become less grumpy with Avery. It is hard not to like someone who is so positive, funny, and so awkward at times it's cute. I thought it happened perhaps a bit too quickly that Gavin took down his walls around Avery and point blank told her he was interested in dating her. There aren't a lot of tense moments between the two, and the biggest road block the two hit is resolved in seemingly no time at all.
There were a few times while reading I questioned if I was reading a series out of order. Avery has a personal shopping rival that's casually mentioned and I wondered if maybe I was already supposed to know about her. I'd have really loved to see that rivalry more developed for some really good conflict, but there was little action taking place between the competitors. The work drama was associated more with Gavin's story line.
The story was wrapped up neat and tidy, but I think there was some missed potential to use the next chapters in their relationship as a bridge into the next novel in the series. It would of could of course focus on a new main couple, but Avery and Gavin could still have strong supporting roles. I liked this well enough that I've added the next two books to my Kindle Unlimited library, but it left me fully satisfied rather than needing more and wanting to immediately begin the next in series.
I just loved this fun book about a personal shopper and the grump who employee her! Even though the story was set around christmas time, I didnt feel like this book could only be read around Christmas, it will be a perfect read all year round.
I loved the dynamic between Avery and Gavin. Avery was very quirky and Gavin's grumpyness quickly changed.
I loved how the next book was already being teaser near the end, can't wait for the next sibling to have their story being written.

Ms. Busboom needs to write more of these. Shopping for the Grump is a fun and funny, intelligent romantic comedy! This book has laugh out loud moments - especially with the accident prone (read clumsy!), usually late Avery who becomes the personal shopper for Gavin, her Mr. Grumpy. I fell in love with these characters, love Avery's spirit of finding perfect gifts and cheered for Gavin to admit how much he missed his dad. So glad I retired because I could not put this down. I think it was about 4 am when I finished it! This book was just so good!
Gavin and Avery it all begins with a mismatched pair of shoes and ends barefoot! Super cute clean story of Gavin a businessman who hires Avery a personal shopper to help with his load. Avery is an adorable hot mess and the story is fun and light!
Very basic writing style. It felt like a high schooler wrote it to be honest. Just very basic and no descriptive writing to make me like the connection of the fmc and mmc. It had the potential to be good but just felt very lackluster.

Firstly, thank you Goodreads, the author, and sponsors for hosting the giveaway that allowed me to read this novel. I will be leaving my honest review.
DNF.
My initial thoughts- If I have to read how pretend “grumpy” this man is all novel, I will rate this a one star.
I was not a fan of this book. I did not finish it and I found it tedious to get through. I got about halfway through the book and had to search the amount of times the word “grumpy/grump” appear in this novel and the answer is 58 times. There’s only 36 chapters. I am appalled. Thesaurus.com is free. I decided that for my mental health, I would not finish this book.
One issue I had with the novel, is the “I’m not like other girls trope,” that made every girl but Avery seem inadequate. The characters felt very two dimensional, and they perpetuated some negative stereotypes. One quote from the book that I hated was, “The black pants and sky-blue blouse give a hint of femininity while at the same time setting a competent, experienced, and efficient librarian-like tone. My nose wrinkles. Who am I kidding? I look like a spinster in this outfit,” followed by, “Guess I’m going as the boring, yet efficient, fuddy-duddy.” Is this the 1800’s? Can a women not dress the way she wants without being not feminine or too feminine? Tearing another women down to further your main character is bad writing. I don’t like the stereotype that this perpetuates and how patriarchal this is. It rubs me the wrong way. Also how it feels like pick me girl behavior. Are librarians not feminine?
Another issue I had with the novel is the lack of depth of the characters. I felt like the author was convincing us that her character was interesting and brooding. I feel like the author is trying to convince the audience that the main guy is a grump while exhibiting qualities that he’s not. He should not be convincing us as hard as he is trying to convince himself. He is not a grump. He likes Avery, and he’s putting up a front. You can do this nonverbally through actions. The justification is ruining the novel. We know he’s a grump. Don’t convince us. Show us.
I am going to compare this to my favorite sunshine vs the grouch novel, “The Love Hypothesis.” The reason that that novel was entertaining and not grueling to get through is because it is established in the beginning that the main guy is a grouch. The novel is spent with us getting to know who he really is and we learn that while he is grouchy, he has a softer side. Adam has a rough side that he isn’t ashamed of, that is who the character is, and the author writes an entertaining backstory as to why he is the way he is. The amount of time that this novel spends convincing us that this main guy is an unbearable grouch is taking time from the relationship and the character/couple development. We get from the beginning that the main guy is “grumpy” (there are also differing adjectives to describe someone that’s unpleasant), however the character is trying to show characteristics that are off putting while that’s not true to the character. That is not grumpy. That is a deceitful character, and he’s not lying to the audience but himself. He’s hiding from Avery who he truly is, and that is not a good basis for a love story. This makes the constant narrative that he has to hide his true self tiring and unpleasant to read.
The main takeaway from this novel is that there are other novels out there that do this trope better. I got halfway through the book that I still did not know the characters and I was more analytical toward the writing style than simply being able to enjoy the reading. It felt very high school level and I do not enjoy the pacing of it. There was little spark between the two main characters, and I got as far as I did by hate reading the book.
“This man is insufferable. He’s met the girl three times. There was zero spark. He treats her like trash, and he literally acts like she’s bothering him. Plus she’s his employee. They’ve only met for business matters, this is highly unethical.” -me, annotating.

Kisses only. This is a cute holiday book. I felt it was too long though. Either that or the pacing was off. The main conflict occurs seven or so chapters from the end which leaves the book feeling drawn out.
She’s a personal shopper and wants his business all the time Even if he is a grump!! If she can make him happy she can make anyone happy! And so she tries her best — but what can she get his mother??? And all this staff for Christmas?? Sweet sweet story - absolutely loved it!!! I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All thoughts and comments are my own.
I loved this book. Their personalities were awesome, they complemented each other in a way I didn't possible. Avery was amazing, just pure sunshine, loved her. Gavin was all grump but beneath it all, a pure teddy bear
I think we can all agree that everyone has had their share of mishaps. Perhaps some more than others, but overall that’s just a part of being a flawed species. Though mishaps are a major plot point of the story, they is just one way that I found myself endeared to Shopping for the Grump.
If I’m being honest I actually saw a lot of myself in this story, the biggest being Ms. Sunshine and Mr. Grumpy. Anyone that knows me and my husband will attest to the fact that these could be our own monikers, and I’m seriously thinking about adding this name to the list of nicknames for my spouse. I also tend to be more bubbly, like Avery, whereas my husband is the serious, straight-laced one of our pair, like Gavin. I don’t know what it is about this combo but it just works! I also flub up a lot, and have to laugh at myself, something that you see Avery do time and time again. It is who she is and she owns it. I feel you girl!
The overall vibe is chaotic in a cute, Hallmark-sequel way, and is a sweet escape. These are lovable characters that you can’t help but root for that have a realness about them, while also showing off their fun-loving sides. To say this girl is accident prone is an understatement. Walking disaster is more like it, but with her savvy wit and bubbly personality, and the fact that she doesn’t take herself or her mishaps too seriously, you can’t help but be charmed by her.
One of the most touching parts of the novel was actually based off of true events, something that makes it all the more emotional to me. I’m not one for spoilers but trust me, you’ll know when you read it, and I’m sure it’ll touch your heart like it touched mine. It’s a very raw scene that I could definitely identify with, and I know many others will as well, especially if you’re missing someone that is no longer here. I could feel that hitch in my throat as I read this poignant scene, feeling the powerful emotions that the character was feeling. It’s really the only scene with deep emotion (this is a rom-com after all!) but man did Leah nail it!
There are seriously so many great scenes that I wish I could gush about, but I don’t want to ruin the experience for anyone who hasn’t yet read it. All I can say is that it was a breath of fresh air that had me chucking from the first chapter, and the moments I wasn’t giggling I was grinning. If this novel is any indication on how this series is going to be then I am sold: hook, line and sinker!
I have voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book which I received from the author/publisher. All views and opinions expressed are completely honest, and my own.
THE STORY | Avery is a personal shopper for people who do not have time to do it themselves. She finds the perfect gifts for her clients, and she’s always succeeding, even though she’s always a little late and seems to attract problems. Her newest client, Mr. Grumpy, as she likes to call him, is a little too problematic though because there is an attraction between the two of them and it's hard to deny it...
MY REVIEW | I don’t know where to begin. I didn’t like it. One thing I really hate in life is being deceived. And that title must be the most deceiving one ever. Told my sis: "I’m so in for a grumpy character!" so we picked this book for our buddy read. I cannot even tell you one time Mr. Grumpy was actually grumpy... He literally laughed in the second chapter, his first time meeting our FMC. Telling me he is grumpy is not enough to make it believable, like COME ON. Now I'm the Grumpy one.
I felt like even though the story was going at a good pace, nothing really happened. And I didn’t get to enjoy any of the characters cause they were so surface level. I cannot say anything about our MCs honestly. Even though I had a little bit of information about background stories, they weren’t really exploited to make me understand them and get to know them on a deeper level, which was really annoying.
Don’t get me started on the 3rd act breakup... It was so unnecessary. Won’t talk about it because my eyes rolled so far in my head I thought they’d never come out. Also, that’s probably just me but nothing made sense in that story, it’s like I was there for every interaction our MCs had (because it’s a short period of time) and yet, I couldn’t understand how their relationship evolved... I feel like they were hiding things from me... or I missed some passages because, like I said, nothing made sense.
I'll end there cause honestly there is no point in going on, this one was clearly not for me. I finished it only cause it was a buddy read, but I feel like it should have been a DNF for me, it's just not a good thing to go on when you know it's not your thing so I'm sorry.
I guess if you are looking for something fast to read, really light, "fun" (not sure I actually laughed but well... you never know), you might enjoy this one... but I didn’t.
Avery, please come rescue ME from Christmas shopping!!
The Warner siblings have a great business model. Opperating under the "Too Busy" umbrella, Avery has a growing business 'Too Busy to Shop", a personal shopping service with a reputation for finding that perfect, unique gift for those difficult relatives and friends you want to gift. These siblings have each other's back, pitching in without complaint to help each other when needed so they can all provide superlative value to their customers.
Avery acquires a new client needing a gift for his mother's birthday. "Mr. Grumpy" Gavin Bennett doesn't make her job any easier, providing only minimal guidance and input. Avery is intrigued by the tiny peeks at a kind and thoughtful man behind the off-putting facade and wants to know why he is as he is.
This book is laugh out loud funny as Avery stumbles her way through marathon shopping excursions for her clients. There are also tears as Avery and Gavin peel away the layers of protective masking hiding their vulnerable hearts and raw emotions. This is the perfect book to read as you are getting ready to beging your holiday shopping this year. Who knows, you may even find ideas for people on your list!
I received an ARC copy of this story from Booksprout and voluntarily chose to share my review.
Avery Warner is a professional shopper, the owner/employee of Too Busy to Shop. When she is hired by Gavin Bennett, known as “Mr. Grumpy”, to buy a birthday present for his mother, their initial introduction is a disaster. Avery makes him late to the party but, when she hands him the tiny gift bag and a bouquet of flowers, he figures he should have gone with the other shopper. He was disappointed. He didn’t know that the gift she purchased was sold out everywhere but she tracked one down. The family teases him about the tiny gift bag with his gift, and he sees money changing hands as they bet that he gave her a gift card once again. But this time, it’s something far more precious. His mother is so extremely pleased with the impossible-to-find gift that Gavin hires Avery to buy this year’s Christmas presents for his entire family.
Avery seems to fall into trouble with no effort at all, attracting all sorts of disasters along the way, and Gavin is truly smitten. And if she will admit to it, Avery is attracted to him as well. Grab your copy and laugh out loud as these two fall in love. Will they find their HEA? Or perhaps realize they already have?
This book is hilarious and an exciting romantic story. Avery is a professional shopper who is hired by Gavin Bennett to buy a birthday present for his mother. Their first meeting is a hilarious disaster. But once Gavin gives the gift Avery got for his mother he immediately hires her to buy Christmas gifts for his whole quirky family. This book is so funny, I was laughing out loud throughout the book. And it is so romantic, two people getting to know each other, going on dates and falling in love. Wonderful clean fun. And Avery just seems to be a catastrophe waiting to happen but Gavin has fallen for her without even realizing it. I just loved the story and of course there are a couple of creepy guys who try to get between Gavin and Avery but they get theirs in the end. A wonderful romantic hilarious novel. Loved it!! Wanting more in this series!!.

Avery, owner of Too Busy To Shop, may be a hot mess sometimes, and usually running late, but she is a dedicated shopper and successful businesswoman for her clients. When she takes on grumpy Gavin and his challenge of finding the perfect birthday present for his mother, even her flaws are endearing to Gavin.
What a cute story of a slow building romance, business challenges, funny shopping tales, and even disappointments. Through it all she is a professional, and gives at least 110%. Question is, will that be enough for Gavin?
I especially loved the way the author focused on characters, and made you really feel like you had gotten to know them-even if it was a training waiter who bungled things. Reoccurring or one brief exposure, all characters had dimension and personality that enhanced the story so much!
I look forward to more in this series and other books by this talented author in the future.
"Shopping for the Grump" was my first Leah Busboom read (I think it was recommended in Emma St Clair's newsletter this week?).
There were some funny moments with Avery's clumsiness front and centre in most of the disasters, and her relationship with her siblings was sweet. The slimy J's were written well too.
The pacing slowed nearer the middle of the story, so I had to dig deeper to keep reading, but then things picked up and became interesting. I did work out the company mole long before the reveal, but that tends to happen since I read a lot. Apart from grown women giggling a lot (35 times) and almost all the characters fist pumping (13 occasions), the story was entertaining.
There are seventeen more shopping days until Christmas. So, guys, that means sixteen more days till we start shopping, right? — Conan O’Brien describes this book perfectly. Avery, the personal shopper meets Gavin the CEO who needs her to shop. It seems pretty simple, correct?
It is until you get Avery and Gavin together let the fun begin! From Avery's clutchiness to Gavin's Mr Grumpy look Leah Busboom had me laughing from the beginning to the end!
This book made my day.

This is a fun rom com that will have you laughing and smiling as you dive into Avery and Gavin tale.
Avery, owns Too Busy to Shop, a dedicate shopper who finds the perfect gifts for her clients. Avery might be a bit of a miss on days and run late, but she is does an amazing job. She is the complete opposite of Gavin, who is busy with his company.
Gavin hires her to find a gift for his mom, and when she does, he hires her for Christmas and can't help but falling for her. This is a great story that you will not want to put down.

I knew just from the title that I was going to love this book and after reading the first page, I was completely hooked. It had me cracking up and I identified with Avery right off the bat. Leah has a talent of really crafting characters you can relate with. Though the trope of a grump is common right now, I loved Leah’s take on Gavin and why he is the way he is. I fell for him immediately and loved seeing their relationship form. Gavin’s belly laughs are the best! Avery truly brings the light back into his life. This was such a great read! I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

I enjoyed this book but think it would have been better as a novella. It could have been cut down a bit and would have flowed perfectly. Or the author could have beefed up the character development and added in some more date nights or couple experiences to fill the pages more. I feel like the only characteristics Gavin had was that he was grumpy and Avery was late and clumsy. This book includes one of my favorite tropes and one of my least favorite plot points. I love sunshine/grumpy but hate when authors rely on the third act fight based on a misunderstanding. I wish we could have seen more of their relationship development.
I've been a Leah Busboom fan for awhile. I've been on Team Connor Brothers Series since the beginning. I had fallen off the train of reading more recent series after I hit reading slumps and couldn't quite get into the stories, but with a new book coming out in this series, I decided to give this series a shot. And I wasn't disappointed. Shopping for the Grump was very entertaining. Avery and her clumsy, accident prone self was a hot mess but so funny. I loved how it never ceased to make Gavin laugh. I will say though, the word grumpy was used a whole lot like we really had to be reminded that Gavin was a grump haha
Avery seemed to have one laugh out loud mishap after another. I was surprised grumpy Gavin hired her as his personal shopper. But she did have an eye for the best gifts. He is a straight-laced and punctual, the opposite of Avery. But in their case opposites really to do attract, she takes him out of his comfort zone, and makes him laugh. But his family business is struggling and suspicions may derail their relationship. I had a feeling what was behind his company’s issues. I loved the creative gifts Avery came up with for her clients.
This was my first book by Leah Busboom, and I loved it! I will definitely continue to read her stories! If you've never read a book by Leah Busboom, I highly recommend them. I loved her character Avery in this story... There were many times when I just couldn't stop laughing! Avery is a smart businesswoman with a quirky side that has a penchant for being clumsy & causing minor disasters! Then she meets straight-laced Gavin, aka Mr. Grumpy! Take a look! You'll be happy you did! I look forward to reading other books by Leah Busboom!
Loved this story!! Avery is a personal shopper. Gavin hires her to shop for his mother's birthday. Avery is a hoot. Something always happens to her...from mismatched shoes to forgetting her purse. Gavin tries to be grumpy when he deals with Avery because he is attracted to her. I laughed all the way through this story. What a great story!.

Shopping for the Grump was such a fun book! Avery comes off as very time-adverse and clutzy but loveable. I loved watching her coax Gavin out of his grumpy and stiff exterior. They're such a cute pair! And even though I read Cooking for the CEO (the next book in this series) first, it in no way diminished the fun from reading Avery and Gavin's story. I'm off to read another Leah Busboom book!
Cute book- my only complaint is that the entire plot of the book is in the synopsis. It was disappointing that I knew the specifics of the mishaps before they even happened. You can say she’s disaster prone without telling me about the shoe, button, and car before I even read it. It took away some of the fun of it. Since I technically already know the ending I’d like the rest of it to be the surprise.
"Shopping for the Grump" by Leah Busboom is an incredible book that I absolutely adored! From the very beginning, it had me hooked with its captivating story and lovable characters. I couldn't put it down! The author's writing style is so engaging and the humor throughout the book had me laughing out loud. It's a must-read for anyone who enjoys heartwarming and funny stories. Trust me, you won't be disappointed! 🌟📚
