ولد الدكتور/ يوسف القرضاوي في إحدى قرى جمهورية مصر العربية، قرية صفت تراب مركز المحلة الكبرى، محافظة الغربية، في 9/9/1926م وأتم حفظ القرآن الكريم، وأتقن أحكام تجويده، وهو دون العاشرة من عمره.
التحق بمعاهد الأزهر الشريف، فأتم فيها دراسته الابتدائية والثانوية.
ثم التحق بكلية أصول الدين بجامعة الأزهر، ومنها حصل على العالية سنة 52-1953م.
ثم حصل على العالمية مع إجازة التدريس من كلية اللغة العربية سنة 1954م .
وفي سنة 1958حصل على دبلوم معهد الدراسات العربية العالية في اللغة والأدب.
وفي سنة 1960م حصل على الدراسة التمهيدية العليا المعادلة للماجستير في شعبة علوم القرآن والسنة من كلية أصول الدين.
وفي سنة 1973م حصل على (الدكتوراة) بامتياز مع مرتبة الشرف الأولى من نفس الكلية، عن: "الزكاة وأثرها في حل المشاكل الاجتماعية".

I was working, doing translations after translations of Islamic books to be of benefit to my muslim brothers; but wait! Am I doing all this for the sake of Allah alone? I was bewildered. I did not know the correct answer. I needed a wake up call before it is too late, and Al Hamdu lillah, this little gem-packed book is all I needed. Shaykh Qaradawi started with what is sincerity and why we need it. Then he vouchsafed some of the crucial cracteristics of a sincere Muslim. He ended with some motivational encouragement so that we may not lose hope of ataining it, seeing even the giants of our religion struggled to conquer it. It is a book that must be read by all who are preaching, learning, doing anything for Islam so that those deeds don't turn into ashesh when we stand in front of our Lord.
