Something always goes sideways, but this is bigger than expected.

Maybe it's not an entirely bad thing though, as mana-infected animals spreading over the world would definitely make everyone more open to the idea of the apocalypse. The question was what was Silas supposed to do about it though.

He still couldn't tell anyone who wasn't inducted about the system. It was time to get creative. If that wasn't enough though he still had the wild hunt hanging over his head. Seven days to go and then he'd be thrown into whatever twisted event the system had cooked up for him. The only good thing was that he had those seven days to train. He might not be the highest leveled of the Forerunners, but his mentor made sure he had the best foundation. He could only grow stronger from here.

It’s rare, at least for me, where you find a book three in that’s better then the last two.

Wasn’t a huge fan of the ending of the last book but it worked well here in the beginning. Expansion of the world, some fun side POVs, progression, intrigue.

So ready for The Wild Hunt.

Book three

I don't get this seemingly total lack of editing that has been going around lately.

I went back and forth trying to decide what to rate this book.

I don't see anything special about the MC for the system to have taken such an interest in him.
If you look at everything the only reason that the MC is special is because the system took an interest in him and has pretty much been guiding the MC's growth.

Between that and the horrible editing I wanted to give this a two out of ten, but the story was pretty good this time. Even with the MC being the system's chosen one. So I gave it a slightly higher score.

4.5/10 Needs editing!

Story lost its way

I enjoyed the first two books, unfortunately the story for book 3 gets too convoluted . It was not enjoyable in the least and I couldn't bring myself to finish the book which is unfortunate because the first two were good. It's a shame he just didn't follow the story arc that was established, too many characters added and his world suffers because of it. The story crumbles under its own weight.

I found book 3 a little slower in parts, especially the section training up skills, but still enjoyable overall.

I've been reading Sean's books since his first Life on Exile book. You can see the incremental improvements to his craft as he goes along.

This series is as solid as it can be. Every book is quality.

I could talk about the character development, about the unique perspective on how the world building and mechanics are implemented or about how nothing feels forced. But then you will find out about all of that when you read it.

Just love it

Loving this series and I would go as far to state his best yet, the stat gains jump a lot but unlike a lot of other OP MCs these seem to actually work quite well as part of the story rather than just power creep for the sake of bringing more to the story.
The world building also helps with this as we learn more about how things work and what is hidden behind the curtain. Very enjoyable read and something I will even start as an audio.

I'll be honest, this is teetering on 3-star territory for a few reasons.

It's still delivering on the basics of what you'd expect from a System story with various titles, skills, and missions. From a plot-based standpoint, we're still going strong I suppose, and that may very well be enough for many people.

The issue I have is with the lack of characterization. I tend to be more interested in the characters than the plot and even a fantastic plot can be diluted by generic characters. Unfortunately, that's what I'm running into here. Rather than exploring our current roster of characters, this book just added more.

A big issue for me is also how generic Silas is. Oh, but he's behaving pretty reasonably...that's true. The problem I have is that you could swap Silas out for 100 other random people and all the same decision-making would still apply. Yeah, he cares about his family and the fate of Earth, whoopee. It's realistic, but not interesting. I would like to see some decisions that are unique to our MC where he would choose Answer B while your average person would choose Answer A. That's where the characterization really gets going and tests our MC to see whether he can stick to his guns under these circumstances, or those circumstances. But everything just feels pretty basic and also too easy since Silas gets all sorts of boons just thrown his way.

I'll go ahead and say this as well, I groan and laugh every time the author uses music-related descriptions. The drinking game keywords are still "symphony" and "cacophony" and I still don't understand why we are using metaphors relating to dance or music for a character that has no backstory relating to music. Really the only things we know about him is that his dad was a marine and died from cancer, and that he ran Cross Country for his highschool sport. So I would expect more figurative language related to running.

The various bits of backstory we get for Silas seem like short-term justifications for the new skill he's about to get rather than any sort of thematic pressure. The lack of thematic pressure also bleeds into the half-baked antagonists. We really have none. Generically, we somewhat have the System itself, then a random play-doh alien who uses a scythe as a weapon for no good reason, and then a potential traitor to Earth. They all resemble obstacles rather than real antagonists that cause the MC to question his values or dig deep for anything.

A lot of these issues aren't deal breakers per se, they are yellow flags rather than red flags, but they are increasingly visible to me in the absence of things I consider strong positives. I often find myself skimming, as the author tends to spend too much time and energy describing things that aren't particularly important.

It's increasingly looking like I may run into my typical Book 4 doldrums and may part ways with this series.

Not as good as the previous 2 books. I think this author fell into the trap that many other author's do when dealing with a litrpg series. They start off pretty balanced but they always end up focusing on the fighting and leveling and leaving all the other parts of the story in the undeveloped. In the first book there was the wonder of the new system, the balancing act of having powers with trying to live a normal life as a college student. The second book was a training montague but it worked for me since most of it was done in a time dilation dungeon. There was still a balance there. There was a chance to breathe. Progress was made very quickly but there was still the time on earth, family and school. This one was all action all the time.

Massive multiverse,OP main character, one note people.

As is the norm for action style stories the micro management of detail in any kind of fight scene is overwhelming yet other than the main character everyone he deals with gets one line of dialogue and just feels empty after a while. Female characters while improving from his earlier books are still hollow. There's a strange run of typos and repeats while he tries to do dialogue which leads me to think no proof reading is going on. Relying on spell checks buggy software but the fact he's doing about 10 books a year is showing.
A lot of Maga mentally is showing up in this book, I don't know if he's trying to appeal to a certain audience but I don't see that crowd reading much except the attention to detail a professional wrestling fan might have for chorography.
He constantly shouts out about the Marines and hero worshipping law and rescue people and that's fine but it shouldn't be popping up every few pages. His interactions with people just feels weird like he's writing these from his armoured bunker somewhere in the Midwest.

A better book than the other two, and certainly better than the blurb and cover art hint at. I found the plot elements involving helping induct earthlings interesting. I also enjoyed the alien refugee part and the assault on a space fleet blockade. Those are pretty unique for the genre so thumbs up from me making those entertaining and engaging.

But I still don’t care for MC. He’s blah, like margarine on an untoasted slice of wonderbread. Not unpalatable, just boring and lacking any flavor. We’ve also added a new, unexplained character trait this book, now he’s super confident. That doesn’t seem to track from the background. It’s one thing to gain confidence in your abilities, it’s another to waltz into White House under a hale of gunfire with a smug look on your face and peacocking on the president. So lots of work to get me anywhere remotely interested in this dude as a likable main.

I’ve also noticed this series is quite derivative. It’s like the author cherry picked elements from various series and incorporated those into his story, albeit in different ways. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, just something I’ve noted more than once.

Oswald & Mason's Multiverse continues to impress &, more importantly, entertain.

Still an error here & there, I guess the rapid timeline to churn out unpredictable & impressive narrative is going to mean things are missed or muddled occasionally.
That all said, this is still an imaginative & highly engaging series. I'm a bit bummed that when I finish Book 4, likely by this time tomorrow, I'm going to have to wait a couple of months for Book 5.
There are hints of the religious creeping in more & more as we progress. Not being a fan of organised religion (the bane of faith & spirituality in my humble opinion), I can see how these themes may make the narrative more palatable to the North American masses, but the world's a big place. Please try not to stray too far down that rabbit hole.
Anyone who likes a good story that immerses you into worlds & adventure, entertains & excites you will devour this series no matter what its minor faults may be.
Start at Book 1. You're going to love it

I am really enjoying this book. I can appreciate the comments from some other reviewers of the series that Silas always gets just what he needs in the nick of time, but it just doesn't bother me. It's supposed to be like a video game, where the key for the locked chest is always somewhere within a room or two, the boss arena invariably has a load of health and mana potions in the antechamber, and and the puzzle lock has 3 tumblers with 4 positions each, rather than 256-bit encryption. Yes, there are high stakes and stress for the character, but for the reader (player) it is supposed to be fun. And I'll say this, there are some evil-wins-in-the-end books that are well written and that I've appreciated, but I can't say that I enjoyed them.

Regardless, Silas makes a bunch more progress, things get difficult on several fronts at once and we get some hints about bigger, badder BBEGs. What's not to love.

Countdown

With the events in Norway, there is no doubt that the world is well aware that something is going on. Silas just needs to figure out how he can turn this to Earth’s advantage. There is not much time until induction and even less until the Wild Hunt. Silas and the other Forerunners have a lot to do before than!

This was a great action packed story! There is adventure going on in both the multiverse and here on Earth. Some excellent characters are introduced as well. While I have not seen any crossover yet, I just found that there will be with two other series: Crystal Core and Dragon Sorcerer. I guess I have two more series to start! This really should not have surprised me with the word Multiverse in the title. Travis Baldree did an amazing job with the narration!

Great trilogy, funtastic and humorous

This is the last book of the first trilogy, hopefully there’ll be a couple more trilogies to continue this wonderful romp through a pre-apocalypse magical system introduction.

While some might say these system apocalypse all blend together, I personally enjoy the genre, and this trilogy hardly takes itself too seriously, the comedy sometimes feels a little forced, especially the Wile E. Coyote, Acme, and Roadrunner bits, but just take it like a dad joke, or bad pun, groan and enjoy it for what it is.

Giving it 5 stars because of the overall trilogy, honestly though, this 3rd book could use some more editing, the typos, missing words, and occasional inconsistencies do detract from this book a bit more than the first two.

I had to restart writing this review several times, because somehow, when I have a lot of issues with a novel, the words just flow easily. But when I’m overall satisfied and a book provides nothing but a positive experience, the praise doesn’t come as smoothly.
5 stars. Keep it up!
Fortunately, there are still quite a few parts left, and the series isn’t even finished yet, so I trust the quality will be maintained. The world of the novel keeps expanding and becoming more colorful. It’s not filled with meaningless battles or tons of filler. (Okay, the statistical data is starting to get a bit tiring and lengthy, but it’s basically skippable.)
The novel has reached that level where it simply draws you in and offers pure escapism. And that’s exactly what I’m looking for in a good read.

A good story let down by a lack of proofreading

This is the third instalment in this series, and the story is getting wilder and more intense as we go along, but at the same time the quality of the writing is dropping.

This reads like a second draft, where some segments have been re-written, but not properly proofread. There are missing sections, redundant words, and dangling participles galore.

Not to mention the many uses of incorrect words - "were" instead of "we're", "lighting" instead of "lightning", "mediation" instead of "meditation", etc.

If the author could have a copy editor look over the text, or even just a proofreader, it'd make it so much better.

Collapse is the third book in this series, and it's a bit off the beaten path, in that the main character brings several individuals into the system, and tries to take responsibility for his share of the work that needs done to get the earth ready for the system. Of course, there's plenty of issues that get in the way, active attempts to sabatoge his attempts, and even alien participants breaking the rules, but all of that's just another day in the life for our main character. A good addition to the series.

Error in 3rd

One of the best authors in LitRPG about keeping character sheets accurate...until book 3. The easiest error is to see is in last miscellaneous inventory where it still lists (8) evolution boosting potions after using several just a few chapters previously to raise race to uncommon then epic. But I can see how such errors are easy to make when copying, cutting and pasting sections of the story during rearranging the completed and edited sections into a final revised order

So many things change so fast and keeping up may not be enough

Things are getting more and more complicated and Silas finally starts trying to get help on Earth as well as for Earth in a larger way. He pushes forward faster and faster as his power grows due to his overabundance of potentiality as a Forerunner. But it appears more and more that not all of Earth’s Forerunners are working for Earth’s success.
More of the system’s motivations are revealed and Silas’s evolutions are of interest to it.

Stakes keep getting higher

Another great read in the series my only complaint would be inconsistent explanations or narrative points from previous books.

Minor spoilers: It happens a couple times but at one point Silas makes a big fuss about stopping levelling (while lv73) as it would reduce his overall stat gain and what his stats would be like as a lv125 uncommon. The next second, he is lv capped at lv75 until he reaches Rare. Secondly, Kimbora wasn't remotely as dangerous to Silas as it was built up to be, which was a real letdown.

A real power jump!

Silas really gets a series of power up’s in this one, which given the state of Earth and how fast the induction is coming, is definitely needed. We get some more info on the state of the universe, and on what the other fore runners are up to. A possible romantic interest is introduced and we get the usual awesome action scenes! Also Urg is back, and he talks now!

4.5 stars. No real complaints, just not quite a five. Closer to it than the last book I reviewed, so I rounded up here.

Lots of stats for those who like those, but mostly in their own sub-chapters so easy to skim if you're not so into the minutiae of the MC's build. Things are ramping up quickly, and now we know who the traitor is. Hopefully tht is resolved in the next book. There are enough problems facing the MC/humanity without a recurring villain.

This is the third book in fantasy/sci-fi LitRPG series with a system apocalypse looming. Silas continues to do a lot of training/progression with a mentor. And he has to deal with happenings on Earth as more people get inducted. I'm still enjoying this series.

Kudos to the author for...
- Recap of previous books at beginning
- Several chapters spread out in the book that purely give Silas' character sheet

Series review (1-5)

Is quite good and interesting.
The first book was a bit boring, but after it, I was really interested in the story.

Noticed pretty much no major mistakes in the story and my biggest complaint would be that the author often makes battles which should be easy too hard, which results in a far too long battle against enemies which the main character should be able to easily take care of.

silly but not stupid

Rather than dozens of books about the coming apocalypse and superhuman Hunger Games fighting a secret war, this is about smart people fighting the system with all the tricks they can think of.

Rather than some pile of toxic masculinity, Silas realizes that stats don’t care about gender.

And rather than one lone wolf struggling to defeat the odds by himself, Silas builds alliances, teams up and does his best to uplift everyone, not just himself.

Good story, needs editor

The entire series reads like someone took a pen and circled off all the hit scenes in their favorite media then wrote a book. Its a nice combo. I did take a star off as there are just so many errors in grammar & spelling -- it takes you out of the story. Normally I don't say anything on this but, it was just bad.
