We all know it, most of us can tell by the first chapter if we are going to like a book or not. Some of us keep going, others just can’t do it. If that first chapter can’t hook you, has the stage been set for the rest of the book?

Have you ever thought about what that hook is that calls to us to HAVE to know “the rest of the story?” Enter one of my favorite fun-to-read authors, Brian Clopper with his storytelling experiment 20 FIRST CHAPTERS. Yep, a book filled with the first chapters to books and a brief explanation of what sets the “hooks” at the end of each.

Each chapter will open the imagination to filling in the rest of the story, perhaps by the reader, perhaps by the prolifically quirky author. They made me wonder if Mr. Clopper should share these first chapters with a classroom or two and let the students go wild! I mean, why not have collaborators?

LURKS, the story about two normal siblings (we think) meeting their grandmother for the first time is definitely one I would like to know where it was going and even where it had been to get to that first chapter. Its starting point lets us know there is some background we need filled in as they meet their grandmother and the seemingly magical estate she lives in! There is just something about her…what exactly is it?

A unique way to write a book filled with something for every imagination to delve into! Easy to read in quick bites, think about after because there is no wrong middle and ending! What a ride in the fast lane on planet Imagination!

I received this copy from the author in exchange for my honest review.
