Thanks to Stuart Bray and Jason Nickey for putting together this collection of extreme horror stories by new authors. It was obvious to me that each author loves this genre. I will be looking for work by all of them. Now git before the Pecker Hooks catch up with you.
These 6 stories were fecking incredible. Some made me blush, some made me gasp but they all made have riotously good time. I keep saying that I'm going to read Stuart Bray and this collection he has curated has ensured that I begin reading his back catalogue asap. The Tailor was my favourite-the visions of a skin suit made me gag and laugh in equal measure. Props to Bray for shining a light on new and upcoming authors within the extreme horror genre.
6 stories by 6 incredible authors! This collection had a little bit for everyone! From a bank robbery gone wrong, human art for the dark web, dickworms, kissin n killin cousins, a serial killer with a hell of a story, and a dinner party with special guests..you can't go wrong with this collection!
I have to give respect to Stuart Bray for being a stand up guy! For him putting a spotlight on new indie authors like this is amazing. This collection is one to read! All the stories were fun and gross and worth the read!
Ive been so excited about this ever since I found out about it. I actually got to be an ARC reader for Kissin’ Cousins by Asher Dark. Every single one of these authors DELIVERED!
I loved that the assignment for this anthology was that the authors were told to write what they wanted because not one story in this collection disappointed👌
6 short stories by the newest names in the extreme/splatter genre brought to you by the one and only Stuart Bray. These stories are dark, twisted, and demented. It starts off with a bang with Nick Scarbrough's bank heist tale, The Root of All Evil, and ends with Ashley Fox's Dinner Party, a party you don't want to miss. In between are these delightful stories: S.S. Hughes takes us to the dark side of the art world with the tale, The Art Gallery. Chuck Nasty takes us to the Edgewood Saloon in 1887 for some deliciously vile body horror. Asher Dark gives us Kissin' Cousins, a story you won't soon forget. Seriously. Daisy Rae brings a story called The Tailor, about a garbage man with a dark secret.
A fantastic collection of stories to tickle your extreme horror fancy. Not for the faint of heart by any means. I really look forward to more from these authors. If you like your tales messed up, then this is the collection for you. Don't miss it. Check it out!
Loved this book, all the stories in here are disturbing asf. Not for the weak, you will not make it through this. So much nastiness in all these stories. Absolutely loved how vile this book was.
This was a great collection of stories. All 4 and 5 star stories. The first story in this collection really kicked it off. Looking forward to reading more from these authors.
It was an absolute pleasure working with these other fantastic authors! The stories in this anthology are amazing and each of the authors should feel proud of their writing 🖤
Disturbing, vile, grotesque, deplorable…loved it 5⭐️
A brand new collection of disturbing short stories that will leave you sick to your stomach. Each one was unique and absolutely disturbing. I finished this in one sitting and was actually sad when there were no more pages left. Go forth and grace your eyes with this book!
Such a fun read, I’m not normally a short story fan Infact this is my only second book of short stories I’ve read. But I enjoyed it Nick and Chucks stories being my fave.
I have been reading and keeping an eye on these fresh new authors of splatterpunk/extreme horror and I am loving it. I enjoy seeing those that start out with the passion and love for horror being accepted and assisted in creating enjoyable and well written stories.
Disgusting, extreme, and hard to fantom? All the hallmarks of a well-done extreme horror anthology! Every story in the collection was enjoyable. I had trouble picking a favorite, so I won't hehe.
Overall, I enjoyed the collection of stories. It's a great introduction to extreme horror if you're new to it and don't want to invest in too large of a story. All the writers are up and coming authors, so be on the lookout for their future works!
If you like some good ol’ depraved splatterpunk, then this will be the perfect read for you!
Some new names in the industry present a little collection of blood-soaked, gut-churning, horror.
The Root of all Evil: 3 men decide their best plan of action is to rob a bank for some quick cash; doesn’t quite go as expected. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Art Gallery: a woman becomes obsessed with a specific art. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Pecker Hook Princess: a man wandering out in the desert comes across a small town and goes into the bar. (This one gets pretty gross). ⭐️⭐️⭐️.✨
Kissing Cousins: incest wins over this brutal “love story” about (you guessed it) cousins. Over the top brutality and depravity. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Tailor: A garbage collector finds his newest hobby through his obsessions. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Dinner Party: A man loves being surrounded by “friends”, but doesn’t put up with any “disrespect”. This is a creepy and completely gross story. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This honestly was a pretty decent little anthology. If this is the type of thing you like to read, I highly recommend it.
I have been sleeping on this book for quite a while since I am not an avid reader of anthologies, and I am quite upset with myself for not reading this the day it was released, because I truly have been missing out on the best anthologies I have ever read. This is a collection of short stories by new writers in the splatter community, and by the way these stories were written, you would think that all of these writers have been doing it for years. I can't wait to see what these authors release in the future, because I have a feeling that they all will do great things.
What a great collection of stories. Each had me equally hooked which is not very common with anthologies, particularly when each story is by a different author.
It was nice to see so many female authors for this genre. Proof that us girls can be just as twisted.
I enjoyed the story lengths. Just long enough to have a decent story but not too long which made them each quick reads.
This was a fun anthology! Each of these stories were extreme and filthy, which is right up my alley. This was my first time reading some of these authors, I'd already read stuff from Asher Dark and Chuck Nasty. I wasn't disappointed with any of the stories. I know that the first four authors in this are still still writing, but what about Ashley Fox and Daisy Rae? They were both pleasant surprises. If you're looking for a quick anthology that packs a punch, you should give this one a try.
Modern Grotesque is a short story collection of extreme horror from new authors in the genre. Extreme horror can be quite hit-or-miss for me, but I found all the stories in this collection to be pretty damn good! There's some truely messed up and shocking moments, good writing, and a varied display of imagination on show. If you're new to the genre or looking for some new authors to discover, this book is worth checking out.
I'm loving that I am now finding more anthology books that I can easily read from start to finish. This book has some immaculate talent and thank you Stuart Bray for releasing this!
I like the idea of this book! A couple of great stories and a couple that didn’t do it for me. Might be a good intro to splatter for those looking to dip their toes!
