Michael has worked on magazines, book jackets, animated films, TV adverts, and even for the police, sketching criminals described by witnesses. As well as illustrating many of his own books, Michael has illustrated over a hundred books for authors such as Shakespeare, J. M. Barrie, the Brothers Grimm, Charles Dickens and Oscar Wilde. Michael has travelled widely - to Africa, Japan, the Arctic Circle, China and Malaysia, the Himalayas, Siberia and New Zealand - to research his books. "I do a lot of research when I'm travelling - I find it thrilling to discover the particular 'art' of different landscapes and work them into a book. But I find I have to travel by myself, otherwise I'm constantly getting involved in other people's impressions of a place... I try to be invisible when I'm travelling, so I tend to listen in on conversations rather than participate in them - I just want to look and draw."
A charming story, beautifully illustrated. Mostly it was about finding friendship in unexpected places. The book also had a great ending... The animals in the book moved from living in what looked like a deeply dystopian city environment, to the promising freshness of the seaside. There was an invisible but palpable "and they lived happily ever after" on the last page, and that warmed my heart.
Rating: 3.5 A lovely, simple little picture book about a ragged stray dog’s protection of three kittens when their mother is accidentally trapped and carried off in a fish van. It’s a happy story about reunions, kindness, new friendships, and a new home for all five animal characters, and it would make a wonderful read-aloud before bed for young children.
When Cat tries to get some fish from a fish truck to feed her kittens with, the fish truck accidentally drives away with her in it. When Dog stumbles upon her scared and hungry kittens he wants to eat them, but quickly changes his mind and decides to take care of them instead. Luckily Cat is returned to her home on the streets when the man who drives the fishing truck returns the next day. I think this is a read aloud that any preschooler would appreciate, but the illustrations are a little lackluster and the writing is a little bit choppy. Dog's sudden change of heart about eating the kittens is probably the strangest part of this story.
WOW! What a beautiful story of how dog found these three kittens while their mom was out looking for all their breakfasts!
I enjoyed this sweet and beautiful illustrated ebook . So, I wish to rate thisvasva five star rating and recommend it for kids fours old and up. I received it for free using Ku , now in return, is my honest review. Super work Michael! By Angela
When Cat takes a risk to get some food for her hungry kittens she is suddenly whisked away and her kittens must fend for themselves for the night. A stray dog sort of adopts the kittens and ensures their well being until Mam Cat comes back ready to claw him if he poses a threat.
Mama Cat comes back with exciting descriptions of the ocean and the whole group catches a ride to the beach in a heartwarming happy ending. Satisfying, though not a lot of depth here. Nice bedtime story for PreK-2.
Just what makes a family? I love how the cat and the dog work together to tend the kittens and to bring them to safety in a new home. This is truly what it means to look out for each other, despite differences that would make them natural enemies. A gentle lesson not just in tolerance but in love. Enjoyable story.
Addressing the issue of homelessness via pets, of strangers being kind hearted, and of not judging - Cat and Dog isn't necessarily a fun read but it has a lot of points that make it a discussion starter.
This books was very sweet, but it started out SO SAD! Dear author: Why choose to make us so sad at the beginning of your book? I wonder how many readers you have lost because of that.
