Lust and the City

Rate this book
We live in a sexually saturated world. Sexual purity for followers of Christ, albeit admired, seems like a fleeting cause. Vulnerability is difficult for fear of being judged and as a result, men and women are caged in pornography, masturbation, and other vices of the power of lust as they suffer in silence. Lust and the City is a Bible-based guide that is filled with practical ways to overcome the power of lust and live a sexually satisfying and pure life in a sexually saturated culture. The author’s bold examples from his own life coupled with powerful Biblical scriptures and very practical guidelines are just what this generation needs. Reading true victories amidst steely temptations encourages the reader to know that deliverance is possible. Curses will be reversed, problems will be solved, broken hearts will be mended, burdens will be lifted, and darkness will be scattered.

Wow...this was a great read! Well written, Holy Spirit-inspired and interesting! The author speaks honestly about the struggle for sexual purity and the hope of attaining it through God's grace.

I read this for the third time last week and I have to say that it is one of those books that ought to be read over repeatedly. Some of the things I got while rereading this:

1. The Book is Biblically-centered, so there's nothing the author says that is not found in the Bible.

2. The author starts by proclaiming that the Gospel is offensive— it offends our sinful nature: this book definitely offends the lust that is in us.

3. Lust is the consuming power that seeks sexual gratification outside the confines of God's will called a marital covenant.

4. Lust = Sin; Sin = Power; therefore Lust = Power.

5. The Power of Lust is not overcome by the power of will (Personally I've come to know that your will can only take you so far); Only the Power of the cross is sufficient for the battle against lust.

6. The fight for sexual purity is a spiritual warfare.

There are so many things that I've learned from the author and it is Holy Spirit inspired. This is a book you would not want to not want to read.

Well written, concise and true to the challenges of Christians in their walk of Purity. Can be used as a guide in Bible study groups, fellowships or for individual reading. Whether alone or in a group, it speaks to the heart. Nice one Ernest!
