Step into this thrilling, science fiction love story for surprising answers.
This book has everything that I ever could have looked for! It is edgy and has just enough action and horror scenes to keep me on my toes. It also has supernatural elements which I LOVE! Everything in one story. Words are hard to put together for everything that I feel for this book while I was reading it and the feelings that manifested after I was done. Salem Stone is the main character who is in high school and an athlete that lives in Michigan. His supernatural feelings that he begins to experience are neither all good or bad, but he does realize that he has capabilities that are beyond just the normal human traits. Lily is the new girl at school and of course he starts to develop feelings for her, but he still has a part of his heart this is goingto be devoted to Sarah. Can we say love triangle and who doesn't love one of those? Salem goes through trials and tribulations trying to discover exactly who he is and where his roots lie.
Salem starts to dig and uncover things about his family that he never knew before and it puts his safety as well as others in harm's way. I loved reading about how Salem went about discovering himself and what the purpose of him having these powers really was. The author did a great job in keeping things light when they needed to be but also heavier when the time called for it. I am excited that this is the beginnaing of a series because I want to know more, and I am sure that you will too. I recommend this book to people of all ages that enjoy a little bit of thrill, excitement and some paranormal in their lives.
Disclosure: I was given a copy of this book in exchange for my open and honest opinion. All thoughts are my own.
Salem Stone, is a popular student, Wrestler and football star and girls adore him. He has a long time girlfriend. but then close to his 18th birthday things start to happen. He is quickly irritated, becomes extremely stronger and faster. He sees shadows and those shadows hurt him too, bloody scratches happen all the time. His father is very strict to Salem, never gives him a break or compliment, and then a new student arrives, a beautiful girl who is very charming and sweet to Salem but horrible to everyone else. Salem doesn't see it he gets more and more under her spell, it gets more clear that his parents hide things for him, but it is not what Salem thinks. Will they be on time to tell Sale, the truth or will they be to late..........
It's not easy to blend supernatural aspects into a teen romantic thriller, but Jamie Hope did it! The plot had enough twists and surprises that I couldn't predict what was going to happen. The characters interacted with authenticity, especially the young adults, and even their unusual skills were handled deftly. YA is not normally my genre, so it's the sign of a good writer that I'm hoping for a sequel.
A well constructed first book in a trilogy. Though the main character Salem Stone is a frustrated teen approaching manhood, this story is so much more than a coming-of-age tale. The author uses biblical and historical references to advance the storyline. Abundant with interesting and well developed characters the story concludes in a compelling thriller-like manner. The conclusion puts in place a well laid foundation for the trilogy to continue and carry on with Salem's life and choices.
the problem with this genre is that it is getting harder and harder to find an original novel and whilst I can't say that Illusion is the most original, I can say that author Jamie Hope tells a brilliant story. I really loved the character of Salem and the complexity of the relationships that weave their way through the book. If this is just the start of the series I am really looking forward to the next book!
So this story is about Salem and his destiny. The destiny of his family and many others. The story starts off kinda slow. It seems like a teenage story about annoying parents. Then things start getting crazy. It was a great first book. I was so excited to get past the beginning into the story. It sucks you in and makes you want more. I am excited to see what comes next.
A book that sometimes reads more like faction than fiction. It will keep you on your toes and eager to actually look up things she discusses in this book to see if they are real. What's real and what's not?
One of the more interesting YA novels I have read and I especially liked Salem's character. I think the book was very well written and the plot hangs together really well, i think this is going to be a popular series and I am looking forward to the next one.
