RED MOON DOT is a Fantastic Sci-Fi Adventure! I was reading a few other science fiction books, and many of them start to drag, and so I wandered across Red Moon Dot, and gobled it up in just a few days. Love it. Gonna grab his next book right now! Thank you
This book explores some very interesting concepts with AI and humanity’s future. I’m not sure I agree with some of the conclusions the book came to, but it was still really interesting. Felt like the kind of conversations I love having with my friends late into the night. Even the parts that I predicted were still satisfying because they had something to say.
The downside was the writing style itself. Very hard on the tell, relatively little show; it felt like the writer didn’t trust to audience to get the themes. There were times where it was a bit bafflingly repetitive, like having a character say “wow, you learned this so quickly?” and then it would say “she was surprised that he had learned X in such a short time”. The characters didn’t converse like actual people, but almost like AI chatbots, which made it all a bit ironic.
Overall enjoyed it but I definitely recommend this more for folks who are most focused on concepts in their scifi.
5 of 5 Stars ***** This is the only book where I thought I knew where the story was going, only to be proven correct—and at the same time, so wrong.
In many contemporary thoughts, A.I. is often seen as the beginning of the end, drawing from plots in movies like Terminator. The fear that these stories invoke presents a valid reason to be wary of the concept of a higher intelligence that isn't biological.
However, this book offers a very radical thought process, presented in the form of a novel. It challenges the typical narrative and forces you to think deeply about the implications of artificial intelligence.
If you have read a lot of science fiction nothing in this book will be new to you. Its an easy read, and if you've not read any of the classics about AI's you'll have a good time.
