Awakened Womb #2

Aliens Hijacked My Heart

Rate this book
The only thing Jaeyoung loves is science—until an alien hijacks his heart...

Jaeyoung was never supposed to crash-land on Eukaria, but now that he’s there, he might as well make the most of it. As both a doctor and engineer, he’s hungry for knowledge, and his new alien home is brimming with discoveries, including the big shocker—Maeleons can somehow fertilize human males.

Compelled by scientific curiosity, Jaeyoung decides to unravel the mystery of alien-human conception. But it takes two to tango, and he needs a partner to dance. Fortunately, a doting Maeleon called Linn'ar is happy to rise to the occasion... over and over again.

Jaeyoung wants cold hard data, not a romantic relationship. But through his plentiful experiments with the alien, Jaeyoung realizes he’s fonder of Linn'ar than he should be, and the adoring way Linn'ar gazes at him certainly isn’t helping...

Aliens Hijacked My Heart is a sweet, spicy romp in an alien world. It features a thoroughly researched pregnancy between a cis man and an alien. Fluff, high-heat scenes, and HEA included!

Дуже подобається читати про різних прибульців, а особливо спостерігати за тим, як вони не знаючи культури один одного намагаються досліджувати все. І тепер я чекаю на 3 книжку про Паза.

I'm not rating this book, because I don't want to give it 2.5⭐ and round it down (which would be my rating) - the story isn't inherently bad, but I'm just realising that this author's writing is not for me.

The title of this book should've been : Levi's got a baby and I want one too.

🟢 The doctor's story
🟣 He wants to get pregnant - for science
🔵 He can't forgive and forget Levi for crashing the ship
🟡 Is he asexual? He never had or wanted sexual encounters, was never attracted to anyone, yet on this planet he's having quite a lot of sex
🟣 More was written about a Korean dish than the main love story development
🟢 Mpreg but the reason behind the pregnancy bothered me
🌶️ Some sex, but same old, same old; t/b

I was intrigued in the first installment and expected for the story development to be put to full speed ahead in this one, because I felt even though the idea of Maeleons was interesting, there was so much more to be told and Levi was just scratching the surface.

But in this story Jaeyoung is a bland, uninteresting character that gets involved with a native solely for his scientific research and I was expecting a fun, sexy love story, but it just wasn't there. Linn'ar seemed interesting and had potential, but was underdeveloped as a character.

The chemistry was non-existent, the formula was the same as in the previous book, there was some awkward sexual exploration, then sex, the obligatory pregnancy, some interaction with the others and that's it.

Jaeyoung was supposed to be a quirky nerd, all up in his head, not seeing the forest for the trees, jacking off a Maeleon and measuring his erect cock and quickly writing everything down in his notes - and for a while it was funny, yes. It was.

But where Jaeyoung and Linn'ar's relationship was supposed to fully develop and become really special, there was almost nothing there. The explanation of some sort of a fated mate was quick and unfeeling. After their first time having sex they wanted to get pregnant. Just because. This guy was actually such an authentic scientist that he was even taking notes as he was pushing the baby out, in pain and all.
Right.

"Levi crossed his arms. “Yeah, but I’m the experienced one. Who’s the only man who’s given birth in this room? Me.”
“Not for long, buddy,” Paz said, grinning. “Jaeyoung the Beach Ball is right behind you.”"

🥴

And Jaeyoung was really after Levi, I mean these guys aren't friends, forget about it. At first I thought it was funny reading all the jabs, but then I was like - just shut up already, you crashed on an alien planet, it happens. Talking about a superiority complex, wow.

This was the theme throughout the book, all about Levi and how he can't do anything right;

"Levi’s jaw unhinged. For a few seconds, it seemed like his brain stopped functioning. Perhaps that was what happened when he crashed the ship."

At first you think it's funny but then in almost every chapter you'll get a jab at Levi who isn't even the main character here. It got tiresome really quick.

"Paz’s eyes flashed as he smiled widely. “Aw. You trust me?”
“I thought that was obvious. You’re far more competent than Levi.”
Paz gave a solemn nod. “God, you’re right. That poor white boy can’t do anything on his own. If I don’t help you, who will?”"

Seriously? 🤨🙄

Yeah, I think we're done here.

Fluffy grumpy sunshine

These 2 were super cute together. Jaeyoung was unable to take time to himself to relax, and his hunky alien was patient with him in every way. I liked the twist on sexy times for science.
Excellent palate cleanser.

This was fun, but it wasn’t as fun as the first one. Not upset that I read it though because I will always devour an mm alien romance. It just didn’t feel like there was any details maybe? Idk. Don’t read this as a standalone though because it wouldn’t make much sense. All the alien stuff is more explained in the first book. I will definitely read the next book though because it sounds super fun.

I had my doubts about it. And unfortunately I was right.

These "scientist meets alien and wants to do (sexual) research with him, only to fall in love with him" stories just aren't my thing. They're always the same, with a very annoying scientist who has absolutely no brain cells when it comes to his love interest, and an overeager sunshine of an alien who knows exactly what's going on but doesn't know how to make the human understand.

This book was exactly like that, and I didn't really enjoy it.

Adorable

When Jaeyoung decided to lower those walls and let Lin'nar in, it was just too cute!
If you love the grumpy/sunshine trope with fascinating aliens, you'll enjoy it.

So cute!

Hawke Oakley is good at making fun books of unique situations that I would wanna read about. This world is a perfect utopia and I wanna live there. The communist manifesto wishes it could be as good as this. /hj

I can’t wait for Paz’s book.

Uptight and perfectionist scientist Jaeyoung resists the lure of his potential mate for a long time, blaming every twitch and horny thought on "hormones" and "autonomous bodily reactions."

I slammed the door on that thought like it was an unwanted solicitor. No thank you, hormones influencing my feelings. Not interested.

However, big, strong Linn'ar soon charms Jaeyoung with his honesty and love of acts of service.

Now we just have to see Paz, the final crew member, find his happy ever after. Hoping to see his book sometime next year.

I was so excited to see that Book 2 in this series was out I stopped the book I was reading to read this instead! Loved the first book, it had such great world building and interesting alien characters.

This was such a great short story, Jaeyoung was a fun character, excited to learn everything about this alien planet and the aliens, the Maeleons. Him ‘using’ Linn’ar as his experiment to learn more, was a cute way to bring them closer together.

They were super cute together, loved how during his pregnancy he had to document every single second, using himself as a study case. This one was quite short and I wanted it to be longer! I look forward to getting Paz’s story in the next book!

My Opinions on:
Two things would have made this better: 1.) Minimization of the CONSTANT jabs against Levi. Like be for real, get over it. Done and over with now. It honestly pulled me from the story every time. And 2.) Even after finishing the story, I couldn’t tell if Jaeyoung actually loved Lin’nar or if it all came together because it was made to? I get that Jae had always had to work hard and be independent and not have time or desire for another often. But like, did anyone tell him to be sure of what he was doing before getting involved and testing shit on Lin’nar and hurting his feelings? Lin’nar loved him so much and for most of it he was just a science experiment. High hopes for Paz’s story. Fingers crossed!

Interesting World Building Facts I Retained: Maeleons have an additional membrane that can cover their eyes and enable them to see the connection and confirm that someone is their Filum.

Aliens Abducted My Heart (Awakened Womb #1) - Planet: Eukaria, Inhabitants: Maeleons. Can photosynthesize (baby Maelons do only this until they get teeth) and are extremely strong. Feelers display emotion visually and can process and push emotions by touching them to others. This is considered very intimate. Fangs are for eating fruit and procreation. They are herbivores. They sleep hanging upside down. Sex is very common and shared amongst everyone unless they are Filum. Only Filum can breed. The Sweetfields are protected, damage punishable by death, the Maeleons can hear them speak. There is no hierarchy and nothing belongs to anyone. There is an aphrodisiac fruit that makes you hella horny all night. Maeleon x Human pregnancy = approximately 2 weeks.

Hawke Oakley's books deserve a place on every bookshelf. Each book is imaginative and compelling, and that also applies to Aliens Hijacked My Heart, which I found to be a real page-turner. Here's why.
Firstly, there is Eukaria, the amazing alien world that Oakley describes in a very imaginative and convincing way. In this world, flora takes center stage and there is a peaceful society of Maeleons, the inhabitants of the planet. In addition, the development that the analytical scientist Jaeyoung undergoes is, in my experience, amazing. Very convincingly, the astronaut becomes more and more himself by giving in to his feelings for Linn'ar. In my experience, this Maelon is Jaeyoung's counterpart in terms of personality, because he always acts based on his feelings: loving, peaceful, and always understanding.
Is this story just about LGBTQ+ romance? In my experience, no. What the author shows in this series in a diverse way is the following. Nature and connectedness play an important role on Eukaria. In this respect, Earth is a counterpart because technology and hierarchy are very important there. The writer shows, literally and figuratively, how every astronaut becomes more themselves through love.
There is also interesting color symbolism in Aliens Hijacked My Heart. The semantic meaning of a color is used very creatively and, at times, with razor-sharp lyrical precision. An example of this is gold. Traditionally, this color is associated with wealth, success, and materialism. In this page-turner, it refers to unification, the coming together of opposites, and intuition.
And so the second part of Hawke Oakley's Aliens Hijacked My Heart becomes a page-turner. The original Eukaria and the Maeleons, together with the earthly space travelers, create a layered romantic story. For me, this page-turner proves that the work of this Canadian author deserves a place on every bookshelf in the world.

Aliens Hijacked My Heart (Book 2): ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 stars.
By this point I probably could have stopped because I pretty much got the story I wanted in book 1, buuuuttttttt I kept on trucking to finish the series lol. Jaeyoung is who we’re matching up in this one and he’s the crew's doctor. I liked him…but Linn'ar wasn’t quite my favorite amongst the alien partners in the trilogy (*Cough* LEAST FAV *Cough**) and I felt like this was the type of ‘insta-love’ I normally don’t like. Which is odd, seeing as book one managed to pull it off. Idk they just didn’t really feel like they had a connection. Like Linn'ar was a love-struck puppy the entire time and Jaeyoung was pretty much just using him in the first half to get what he wanted. Though I didn’t like Linn’ar, Jaeyoung wasn’t much better motive wise, and I still somehow ended up liking him in the end. XD Since he pretty much had to be the ‘smarts’ of the crew you can tell that most of his behavior came from having to push his wants to the side. Getting to see him loosen up and actually learn to love Linn’ar was good, but I will stand by my opinion that it felt like there wasn’t much of a connection. (Still got the 3 stars because I know if this series had longer books, they would have been a rocking slow burn couple!)

Aliens Abducted My Heart (Book 1): ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 stars.
In book one we follow the captain! Levi was easily my favorite cause he made me laugh and he was probably the most relatable… weirdly enough lmao XD Not to mention his alien hubby, Zat'tor, was super charming and the ‘stoic and calm’ type we know and love. They had an ‘insta-love’ sort of relationship. Not for everyone, I know, but they were cute all the same. Normally I’m not one for the ‘Love at First’ site, but it worked somehow. Probably because they were just so cute together.

I been a fan of Hawke Oakley for a while now. Oakley has a unique talent for combining scientific concepts with tender romance, and Aliens Hijacked My Heart is no exception. The book explores themes of discovery, both scientific and emotional, with a storyline that is equal parts sweet and spicy. The relationship between Jaeyoung and Linn'ar evolves naturally, from mutual curiosity to genuine affection, making their journey both engaging and heartwarming.
The concept of alien-human conception is handled with a surprising level of detail and care, which adds a layer of credibility to the sci-fi elements. The high-heat scenes are tastefully done, with just the right amount of tension and passion. Oakley balances the fluff and the spice well, ensuring that the story never feels too heavy or too light.

Felix Black’s narration brings depth and emotion to the story, perfectly capturing Jaeyoung’s analytical nature and Linn'ar's warmth and devotion. His ability to differentiate between the characters through subtle changes in tone and inflection adds a layer of immersion that enhances the overall experience. Black's portrayal of the intense moments, both romantic and dramatic, is particularly noteworthy, making the steamy scenes even more compelling. However, there were moments where the pacing felt a bit off, but it didn’t detract significantly from the overall enjoyment. Overall I really enjoyed this book

I had no idea another book in this series was being released I'm so happy!

Jaeyoung is one of the crew members who crashed on the alien planet Eukaria and with no plans to leave anytime soon his doctor and engineer mind is racing with all the discoveries he could make on this unique planet. Those discoveries include the anatomy of a certain alien named Linn'ar.

The Good
I liked both Jaeyoung and Linn'ar's relationship. Jaeyoung's character was funny in the way he convinced himself he was doing things for the sake of "research" but also so relatable in the way he had to unlearn his perfectionism and ideas about proving his worth and being independent. I liked how Linn'ar tried to get him to learn to relax and let go while also being so understanding that this is just part of who Jaeyoung is.

Tropes:
— MM Alien Romance
— Fated Mates
— Mpreg

Horn Level: 5/5🌶️
Format: Ebook

The Rating
I give this book a 4/5🌟 rating. I really like this series and can't wait for more! I also started the dragon alpha series, and I'm enjoying that too!

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the is one for what it was, but it for sure didn’t even play in the same universe as the other book.

It lacked. A lot.

I wanted more of what made the first book so great, but this didn’t really include that. Like, it did, in spirit? I guess? But in execution? It just didn’t bring the same vibes. It also had more editing misses.

All of my fingers are crossed that the next book brings the good/good back.

3.5/5. It was still fluffy and cute and fun, but not on the same level, and definitely without the depth the first one had throughout the cheesy fluff and humour. It also felt like Jaeyoung got done real dirty by the end, because I could’ve done without him completely and them have found another human hiding in some field somewhere instead. His character was NOT it. He could’ve stayed the rude doctor, forever the snippity jerk in the background. Linn’ar deserved better.

Aliens Hijacked My Heart cranks up the heat and the curiosity. Jaeyoung, a brilliant doctor and engineer, is fascinated by the scientific possibilities on Eukaria—especially when he learns Maeleons can fertilize human males. His logical mind drives him to investigate this phenomenon, and he approaches his new partnership with Linn'ar like a science experiment. But love isn’t something you can quantify, and as Jaeyoung spends more time with the adoring Linn'ar, the lines between research and feelings blur. The slow shift from clinical fascination to heartfelt connection is beautifully handled, with plenty of sizzling, exploratory encounters that are as hot as they are sweet. Linn'ar’s unwavering devotion is utterly swoon-worthy, and Jaeyoung’s realization that love is the greatest discovery of all adds a heartwarming depth. Their HEA is tender, and watching Jaeyoung let his heart take the lead was incredibly rewarding.

I don't think this one was as good as the last one. I hadn't really been a fan of Jae from the beginning, and he really wasn't much better here. I was afraid that he would inadvertently hurt his mate's feelings by being so blunt and tactless about his motives for getting pregnant. I'm glad to say there were no tears of betrayal. I want to also point out that they apparently don't believe in realistic anal prep in this world. I don't care how slick your magic alien cock is, that thing is massive. I didn't notice the lack of prep in the first book I guess, but I definitely caught it here. Overall, I'm satisfied with the ending and I'm looking forward to Paz's book and meeting the incoming questing group.

I’m just going to say it: this would have been better if they had leaned into the science/medical kink angle. Where it was at its best was when Jaeyoung was Doing Research and things started getting spicy. But then his “science and research mind” just turned into him making passing observations and taking notes on everything. Lean in! Let’s bust out the medical bag and really dig deep into studying alien cloaca. LOL

But yeah, truly just a disappointingly mid addition. Jaeyoung’s thoughts were so funny during the initial “research” but then he kinda lost all flavor and personality.

“Evolution really screwed up when scrotums won out over cloacas.” was a real banger of a sentence, though. And I for sure will be reading the next one.

𝐑𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠: ⭐️⭐️ - Quick and easy read
𝐒𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐞: 🌶🌶 - few open-door scenes with something extra

Book 2 in the Awakened Womb Series. I enjoyed book 1 and decided to jump right into book 2 while reading more brain power books.

It was nice to go back to the planet of Eukaria and see my three favorite humans. This one followed the Doctor of the three and it was fun to see him be more flexible and not be a workaholic. The methods that he chose to let free were entertaining to read about and I laughed out loud.

I will say that I am still super excited for book three and dying to meet the mate of the third human of the group. To my disappointment, we still have no idea who it is.
