Trapped in a new world. Targeted by everyone. He can either run, or embrace the mayhem! Ben finds himself stuck in the beta of Mayhem, forced to be an evil elf character by the system AI. Their race is universally hated due to their lust for destruction, bloodshed, and world domination, so, he’s understandably a bit irritated.
His buddy Chip and his Rainbow Unicow Bessie, on the other hand, couldn’t be happier. Extreme violence is right up Chip’s alley and seeing as Bessie has gotten a taste for human flesh, she’s totally up for the bloodshed bit.
The problem with being universally hated, however, is that there’s no one who will take you in. And with only one life, Ben doesn’t much relish the thought of losing it.
But he doesn't have the luxury of hiding out in the safety of a major city as an evil elf. Everyone is after him – angry barbarians, villagers with torches and pitchforks, Halflings hopped up on cornstarch, and way too many weird monsters that have no right to exist!
Don't miss the start of this hilarious, action-fest of a LitRPG adventure from Aaron Oster, bestselling author of We Hunt Monsters and End of the World.
I think this is meant to be like a gross-out comedy but it’s full of raging arseholes. The plot was cliched and frustrating, and the characters hugely irritating. Luckily if you’ve read it on Kindle it’s only a couple of presses to get through to the author’s page and unfollow them. What a world we live in.
Ohhhh man, that was soooooooo much fun. I loved it! And man I need the Next book bad. I really wasn't sure that I would enjoy this book but with an actual snarky AI seemingly out to get 'em or simply make fun of 'em, my concern was forgotten and I found myself totally enraptured. This is the story of 2 young men getting caught by circumstance in a game where they find that they're unable to log-out. And should they die it totally means death in real life. So yeah you'll wanna follow Ben and Chip as they fight to get stronger leveling up with hard earned victories. And wow Steve Campbell's narration brought the characters to life. Ohhhh and as a side note Chip introduced Ben to the joy of eating a raw ear of corn just picked from the farmers field!
Quotes that amused me:
“Stop being such a pessimist. This is awesome!” “I’m surprised.” “About what?” “That you both know that the word pessimist exists and how to use it in a sentence,” I replied.
Chuck’s face went a bit dark, and he refused to answer. That was, until Chip threatened to fill his pants with exploding acorns while he slept.
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book. It's well-written, very humorous, clever, crazy, and so much fun! I giggled a number of times throughout. All of the characters were very interesting. From the very snarky AI to the very adorable uni-cow Bessie, I was totally so into them. Each quirk of the characters made them entertaining and amusing.
Steve Campbell knocked this one out of the park! He did so well with the characters! Bravo, sir!
I really enjoyed the character building and how everyone grew into rolls forced on them by a psycho ai. I am looking forward to the next book. That is a slight understatement though as I'm pissed at myself for reading this before a second book was out! Lol 🤣 this book is funny, messed up, and full of bloody mayhem. Great series start and can't wait to read more.
The gaming company did a very unethical thing by hiding the risk in the user agreement, which they knew no one would listen to when they heard how long it was. I liked the idea of the game. To kill if you need to let out your rage without hurting any living people would be interesting, but you would need to tell the difference between real and virtual. The AI was funny if not a little crazy. I really want to see more to this story.
Really fun to read. The Main Characters are a little bit crazy, but that makes them fun. And finally some character who do not want to save the world but embrace the carnage. The Audiobook is really well done!
