But that hope is shattered when Quinn’s nemesis, Ceril Anelos, strikes. Always a step ahead, his traitorous intentions soon becomes clear—master forbidden magick that has been locked away for centuries.

Just. Perfect. The book touched on everything pertinent in the story. And I love how the author didn’t confine the adventures to one group. Can you imagine having to write TWO adventures with pitfalls and climaxes supposedly happening all at once? And to add to that, the dialogue is never stale or boring. It’s always so quick witted and sarcastic.

This is one of my all time favourite sapphic series. Hand down.

I received my ARC of this yesterday and absolutely devoured it, every spare minute I had, kindle, phone, in work, car journeys, you name it I was reading it🤣

I’ll start by saying I absolutely loved the 1st and 2nd book in this series, so I knew this one wouldn’t be any different, the author is incredible at making it funny, serious and damn near impossible to put down!

The story follows two FMCs who are fated gods, with what feels like the entire world against them, it’s slow burn, death is around every corner and your heart is in your throat more often than not. I won’t say too much, but if you’re considering starting this trilogy, absolutely do it. Pirates, chickens, gods, terrifying sapphic women, magic, politics, respectable MCs that aren’t jarring, it’s just perfect to get lost in.

Nyssa&Quinn are brilliant, they compliment eachother in ways you’d never expect, Nyssa is cocky, charming and reckless, whereas Quinn is grounded, sassy and complex, the pair of them are fantastic.

Now onto my two favourite characters of the entire series and in any book to date and who stole the show completely for me …

Medias - what a fucking masterpiece she is, I loved everything about her, her story, the way she’s written, her relationship, and character development had me in a chokehold.

Tajal - I have never ever laughed as much at a book, than I have when he appeared. His backhanded sassy comments quickly seen him become one of my favourites of the book. The little snippets of details we get about him are also really intriguing so I’m hoping whatever comes next, he’s apart of.

This trilogy is so refreshing to read, the plot is different, easy to follow, the characters are so unique and unlike any I’ve come across before, the humour that’s inserted into these books may boarder entirely on insanity (Sassy chickens and seagulls🤣🤣) I honestly felt every emotion, and absolutely loved every single book.
J.A is fast approaching one of my fav authors to date, and I can’t wait for more!

I cannot overstate how fantastic The Blacksea Odyssey is. Unyielding is the third installment of the series by JA Vodvarka, and it continues where the second left off. JA has put our motley crew through the wringer! Action-packed from beginning to end, this suspenseful, exciting, complicated arcanepunk romantasy has it all. Amazing world building, lore, so many fantastical elements written in such a realistic, believable way and the writing style makes this a fully immersive experience. Complex character development, depth, and relationships evoke all the feels.
A snarky seagull, an actual kraken, imperial politics, deep romantic and familial love, an in-depth system of magicks, diversity, morally gray characters, codes of honor, intimacy, spice...Did I say it had it all? Do not hesitate to start this series!
We get our happy for now ending with so much room for more to come. I personally can't wait! I'm calling it! The Blacksea Oddysey is the best series of the year.
Heed the trigger warning given by the author.
I received a free ARC from the author. This is my honest opinion.

The final book in the Blacksea Odyssey trilogy does not disappoint! Losing no steam from the end of the second book, Unyielding is action packed from the beginning, filled with twists, redemption, love and witty remarks. I’m amazed at how much life and story can be put into a piece of work and that’s the case with Unyielding. J.A. Vodvarka is able to beautifully weave the characters stories together and give each one a worthy storyline. There’s not one character that I didn’t care about.. okay maybe not Shay 😂😂

The story that has been unraveling throughout the last books was given a triumphant win with the door open for more to come with Nyssa, Quinn and the crew. I can’t wait to see what is next for the Blacksea Universe!!!

Thank you so much to bookfunnel and the author for allowing me the ARC.

Unyielding ARC Review - 4.5 ⭐️ rounded up

Unyielding is an adventure on the high seas full of action and heart with complex character development and witty dialogue that will have readers turning pages with unyielding ferocity.

*yes, I'm aware my word plays are rarely actually funny or creative, and often make no sense. 😂 idc because they amuse me.

This may be my favorite of the 3 books in the series (so far). I feel like Vodvarka has really found her stride as an author and it shows.

📖 The stakes are high and there's loads of well written action to keep the pages turning. With well timed, and actually funny to me, humor sprinkled in to keep the tone from being overwhelmingly serious. You never feel like the plot armor guarantees anyone's safety, nor can you guess what's coming next.

✍️🏼 I loved the writing. I find it to be easy to read, everything flows nice and smoothly with turns of phrases that I enjoy.

The dialogue reads naturally and flows well.

🗺 Being book 3 in a series, the bulk of the world building occurs in the previous books. However, Vodvarka continues to explore and build upon that world with rich, detailed descriptions, interesting lore additions/expansions,

🔮 Like world building, the bulk of the magick development and explanation occurred in previous books. Unyielding builds on expands upon that nicely, adding nuance and depth.

⏳️ Unyielding is well paced, with action, character and plot development shepherding the plot.

👥 These characters - they're fierce and I love them so much. So much personality and nuance in these pages combined with complex character development.

I especially love that the cast is diverse and the world is queer normative.

If you're a character focused reader, you'll love these characters.

💞 I find the relationships to feel and read as realistic and I appreciate the open communication and trust between them, as well as Vodvarka taking the time to show us those things (and more) developing between the characters before it becomes more.

As much as I love and adore Nyssa x Quinn, there's just something about Reece x Medias that I'm surprised to find myself even more invested in.

"Tonight, the focus is on you. You don't need to get me off. But if I want to... then I'll do it myself." She said her hand between Quinn's legs. "And you can watch."

🌶 The spicy dialogue, whew, it's so good. The scenes themselves are well timed and placed so as to enhance the plot, the character's relationship(s) and bond(s).

I appreciate that the spicy scenes ensure clear consent and that they don't pull all the "work" (emotional nor physical) on just one partner.

The main reason it wasn't a true 5⭐️ for me is the characters made some decisions that I felt didn't make sense - or that they should've learned by now why they should make different choices. Nyssa is notorious for being stubborn, however, so I guess it fits her character. I also still have a some unanswered questions that are likely me being too particular, so I tried not to allow this part to impact my rating.

📚 If you cross Tress of the Emerald Seas (BrandoSando) with Gideon the Ninth (Tamsyn Muir), that's kind of, sort of, The Blacksea Odyssey.

If you like Gideon the Ninth, I think you would enjoy this. If you enjoy sapphic fantasy, or are looking to dip your toes into sapphic high fantasy, give this series a try. I think you'll have a fun time.

Thank you to @j.a.vodvarka for the opportunity to read this eARC. All opinions expressed are my own.

“You wanted to experience my emotions and see what mortal existence was like? This is it, Tajal. It’s joyful and ugly and confusing and wonderful and painful and so much more that’s impossible to describe. It’s everything and nothing at any given time. You want to pin it to a board and know exactly what it is, its shape and form. The look of life, the taste of it, the smell of it, how it feels when it slips over you in all of its exceptional, terrible glory.”

With the trilogy coming to an end, I can say it was worth the read! 700+ pages for the final of the 3 was difficult to get through though. I had to drag myself through most of it. I am a bit disappointed with the final battle and felt a bit robbed. The fights were becoming a bit repetitive, but I couldn’t not finish the series. I do think some parts were a bit unnecessary or could’ve really been put into three books because within these 3 books it was about 1,600 pages.

The ending left on a cliffhanger, making it quite obvious there will be another book at the least, but unfortunately I don’t think I will continue on after. It’s rare for me to read trilogies, and this is the exact reason. I started to get bored, and I felt like the to MC’s weren’t growing anymore and I started to get a bit annoyed with them.

Now, Medias and Reece? They had my heart and were one of the reasons I continued to read. They became my favorite couple and I LOVED Medias growth throughout the third book. Tajal started to become a favorite too with his wanting to understand his emotions and his growing love for all of the MCs.

I decided to give this book a 3 star because of the overall trilogy, but this one was my least favorite out of the three. I would still recommend the trilogy though!

OK I apologize at how scattered this effusive review is. Actually no. Sorry not sorry.

This trilogy is the kind of fantasy that hooks you from the start and refuses to let go. I cannot stop thinking about this world and these characters. This is the final book in the trilogy, and I am obsessed. Vodvarka has created such a vivid world, with gaslamp aesthetics and a ton of intrigue. It takes everything I love about fantasy—complex characters, politics, interesting deities, thrilling magic—and adds not one, but two sapphic romances to the mix. Talk about a win!

The relationship between Nyssa and Quinn is incredible. Their dynamic feels incredibly genuine, with all the glorious flaws and depth you’d want from a slow-burn romance. They have this magnetic connection that makes every moment of banter, tension, and vulnerability so satisfying. And there is so much vulnerability, so many mistakes, and just incredible growth. There's also incredible redemption stories in here. On top of that, there’s another sapphic romance that is just as wonderfully written, giving this book a rarity in the fantasy genre—a truly inclusive and layered exploration of love and loyalty. And tbh...... there is a tiny little hint of a THIRD sapphic romance that I'm rooting for as a spin-off.

Even with all this focus on characters, the plot does not disappoint. This has the kind of villains you love to hate (and hate to love - looking at you my fav fallen Queen) —manipulative, always one step ahead, and with ambitions that raise the stakes in every chapter. Seriously, this has so much action and the heroes get their butts kicked so many times. The imperial politics, power struggles, and forbidden magic bring so much to the world and add weight to the personal stakes.

What really elevates Unyielding is the humor that lightens the darker moments. It balances out the heavy plot points without taking away from the intensity of the story, and it makes the characters feel even more real and endearing. The secondary characters, too, are so well fleshed out. Each one has a unique role in the story. And honestly, I am all-in for a spinoff about the side villains, especially with the way Vodvarka writes them. Who wouldn't want a sapphic villain story?

In short, Unyielding is a perfect ending to a trilogy that absolutely deserves more attention. The combination of rich world-building, multi-layered characters, and beautifully crafted romance makes it a top-tier read. If you’re a fan of fantasy with epic stakes, intense magic, and genuine, well-developed relationships, this series is a must-read. I’m crossing my fingers for spinoffs because I’m just not ready to say goodbye to these characters!

Thanks so much to the author for the complimentary copy to read and review. This review is voluntary and all opinions are my own.

Unyielding jumps right into the action, picking up exactly where the second book left off. Our badass, weird gods are back at square one, facing an empire that just can’t seem to stop turning against them. The tension escalates right from the first page, plunging us into intense moments with Nyssa and Quinn, who once again prove they’re the perfect duo. Their bond deepens as the stakes rise, and no matter what challenges the world throws their way, they face them head-on, always coming out on top. The sacrifices they make for each other are immense, highlighting their resilience and power, truly an ideal pairing.
I’ve been hooked on this series since book one, and my love for it has only grown with each installment. From Whiskey & Wagers (Nyssa’s short prequel) to Unyielding itself. Vodvarka crafts a rollercoaster of a read, balancing flirty banter and perfectly timed comic relief with deeply emotional moments. And who is better to laugh at her own misfortunes than Nyssa herself? However the punchline might sting though; no, seriously, Nyssa packs a mean punch. I definitely wouldn’t want to be on her bad side.
Just when you think you’re safe, the book hits you with an intimate, heartfelt scene... only to follow it up with a heart-sinking twist. (I’m still recovering from that almost heartbreak, by the way.) And the epilogues? Yes, plural… two of them, both teasing what’s next in this epic world.
If I haven’t said it before, I’ll say it now, the world-building and character development in this series are absolutely captivating. Pirates, ancient chicken-esque beings who love to be nude at every opportunity, found family, epic battles, treachery, enemies-to-lovers; all set within a richly woven universe.
Oh, and did I mention Sapphic? Yes, badass women with swords and godlike powers—what more could you want? Go read it!

Thank you JA Vodvarka for having me read your series, I am extremely grateful for the opportunity. wishing you much success with the Blacksea series and more to come.

Unyielding was AMAZING. I devoured the first two books in this trilogy and was eagerly anticipating the third. And it did not disappoint! J. A. Is an incredible author - this book has incredible plot and world building; sweet romance that’s more “I love you so much I’m going to fight these people for you”; so many good fight scenes…my mind was blown away, AGAIN! All of the characters are just SO GOOD…the villains are SO EVIL…it was thrilling and gripping. There’s even humour in there, which is a feat considering how much else is going on! Looking forward to spin-offs and more books to come.

Unyielding, book three in the Blacksea Odyssey, is a phenomenal end to a phenomenal trilogy that just got better with each new installment. The story picks up where we left off at the end of book two, with our delightfully flawed heroines, Nyssa and Quinn. We’re plunged into the action right away, and it just doesn’t quit. Unyielding delivers even more world building, exciting fighting, sweet romance, delicious spice, and ancient gods.

Nyssa is the backbone of the Blacksea world (she does carry its name, after all), but she’s just one in a cadre of fabulously well-developed characters. We get deeper into Quinn’s head as she struggles with the darkness and trauma of her past. Aryis works hard to make amends, while Athen works to reconcile his hurt with his love. Our pirate crew, led by Elias and Fontaine, are back with their fierce loyalty and much needed levity. Reece is just as amazing as she was in the first two installments, and her blossoming relationship with the wonderfully enigmatic Medias is one of my favorite parts of the story.

The quality of the writing is top notch, and the storyline flows so smoothly. Vodvarka is hands down a must-read author for me. With at least two more books coming in the Blacksea universe, I can’t wait to see what she has in store!

I received a free ARC from the author, but my review is unbiased and left voluntarily.

I am very happy to have discovered this series! Nyssa and Quinn have become some of my favorite characters in recent memory, and I was so excited to receive an ARC of the third book in the trilogy.

What really kept me coming back for more, book after book, were the depictions of powerful and complicated female characters who were justified in seeking their revenge. The audience has the opportunity to watch these characters grow and perspectives change as they find love in chosen family. Despite the fact that this is a story that takes place in a fictional world of magic, pirates, and the occasional sassy bird, I found elements of my own story reflected back at me from the pages. The Blacksea Odyssey offers a hug and a warm cup of tea to its queer readers.

Unyielding was a solid end to the trilogy and left me wanting to see these characters again. Well done.

“Two souls, forever entwined, chaos dancing in eyes and blood, born between realms and belonging to the stars.
Two souls, forever entwined, clash with fists and blade, dragging the tips of their swords across the world.
Two souls, forever entwined, dance and howl, as ancient magick unfurls and envelopes the light.
Two souls, forever entwined, bend and break, hurling to earth to die and be forever reborn.”

The final book in the Blacksea Odyssey had me on the edge of my seat the entire time! The third book starts off right where the second book ends and there’s so much action right off the bat, that I almost didn’t believe I had just started the book. J. A. Vodvarka does another phenomenal job at building and expanding the Blacksea universe and continuing the amazing story of Nyssa’s and Quinn’s adventures. I really loved reading about their growing connection, even when things weren’t going as expected.

In this third book, we continue to follow Nyssa and Quinn as they first try to bargain for their freedom from the Empire and then, in an unlikely turn of events, form an alliance with them when they both share a common enemy and threat to their land: Ceril Anelos.

During their adventure chasing after Anelos, both Nyssa and Quinn must face their painful and dark pasts in different ways. Nyssa must work together with someone, who she learned, had a hand in her parents death and Quinn must return to the place where she was abused by the man they’re after and all the darkness that surrounds it.

We also not only get to see the relationship between Quinn and Nyssa grow, but we FINALLY get to see another relationship form stronger and even get some spice from it! (I’m not going to spoil it for you though 😏).

Oh, I also need to mention that the Ancient God of the Realm of Shadows returns. One of my favorite quotes from the book is directed toward him and almost perfectly sums up the emotions I felt while reading this book:
“You wanted to experience my emotions and see what mortal existence was like? This is it, Tajal. It’s joyful and ugly and confusing and wonderful and painful and so much more that’s impossible to describe.”

All in all, I very much LOVED this whole series and am definitely looking forward to more stories in the Blacksea universe! I am so glad I decided to sign up to be an ARC reader and that [the first book] was my first ever ARC book. I have definitely become a fan for life!

If you enjoyed books one and two of the Blacksea Odyssey, you will definitely enjoy this one as well!

“To those who never saw themselves in the books they read growing up and had to create their own universe”

J. A. Vodvarka: thank YOU for creating this fantastic universe, where its readers can see themselves in your story. I eagerly await for more!

Unyielding, the third installment in The Blacksea Odyssey series by J.A. Vodvarka, is an absolute rollercoaster of emotions and action. From the very first page, it grabs hold of you and doesn’t let go. If you thought the stakes were high in the first two books, be prepared for an even wilder ride. This novel had me laughing, crying, and on the edge of my seat more times than I can count—and I loved every moment of it.

One of the most impressive aspects of Unyielding is how effortlessly it balances intense action with deep, emotional character arcs. This is the longest book in the series so far, but it flew by, with every chapter pulling me deeper into the lives of Nyssa, Quinn, and the wonderfully diverse cast of side characters. Each character feels so real, complex, and beautifully flawed. The richness of their individual stories is a testament to Vodvarka’s skill in crafting a world where no one feels like just a background player—everyone is on their own meaningful journey, and it’s such a joy to witness.

Nyssa and Quinn’s relationship continues to develop in ways that feel incredibly authentic and heartfelt. Their bond is tested repeatedly, and watching them navigate the dangers and challenges they face—both external and internal—makes for a deeply engaging story. And of course, the villain, Ceril Anelos, is masterfully written. His motivations are chilling, and his threat looms large over the entire plot, raising the stakes higher than ever before.

The pacing is relentless in the best way possible. Even though the book is longer than its predecessors, it never drags. Every scene has purpose, every twist and turn ratchets up the tension, and the ending is both satisfying and leaves you eager for what comes next. I honestly couldn’t put it down.

One of the best parts of this book—and the series as a whole—is how human and relatable the characters feel, despite the fantastical setting. Whether it’s Nyssa struggling with her sense of honor or Quinn confronting the darker parts of her past, their emotions and decisions feel raw and real. This relatability makes the magical and political intrigue that much more immersive, grounding the epic stakes in the characters' personal journeys.

The world-building, which has been strong throughout the series, continues to shine. The magic system, the political tensions, and the deep history of this world all come to a head in Unyielding, and it’s clear that Vodvarka has so much more to offer in this universe. I could honestly read hundreds more books set in this world with these characters, and I hope that’s exactly what we get!

Thank you J.A. Vodvarka for providing me a copy of this book to read. All opinions expressed here are my own and freely given.

Unyielding wraps up the Blacksea Odyssee trilogy but for my taste left quite a few questions to be answered. I still enjoyed it immensely and was relieved to hear that there will be more stories set in Nyssa's and Quinn's world, otherwise I think I would have felt short-changed.

When the character views opened up in volume 2 I was really excited and latched on to the side characters more and more - in volume 3 this continues (and I still liked it) though here it felt as if it ultimately came at the cost of dropping the ball on the main characters, especially Nyssa. I understand why her arc ends how it ends but it almost seems to happen somewhere off to the side and isn't really explored.

I thought about this quite a bit, and I think most of it is due to my personal taste - I am usually more invested in the developing of magical skills than in the last battle when every character is powered up to the eyeballs and true peril is hard to come by. Unyielding absolutely managed to make me feel worried about the characters during the showdown and I also liked that Quinn and her past are more in the focus of it, but compared to other morally compromised characters in the story who I am quite invested in, the main antagonist proved to be not that interesting in the end and his back story isn't dwelled on much. When he is vanquished eventually, it felt more like a plot point to tick off to me - I deeply appreciate that the relationships between the main characters are the point of the series but this time something didn't quite gel for me. It's still a hugely enjoyable read and I look forward to more stories to come.

I received an ARC of Unyielding by J.A. Vodvarka in exchange for an honest review. I was shooting to have this finished and reviews posted on or before release day, but my dog has had some health issues which slowed down my reading time.

But onto what you're here for right? Unyielding was a fantastic conclusion to this badass trilogy. There is a great balance of heart-stopping action scenes, tender and cozy moments of character development, steamy spice, and character interactions that made me laugh out loud. There is a lot of heavy and emotional things in here, don't get me wrong, but there is plenty of levity in between to help break it up.

This book really grabs your attention and holds it from page one, the way the story is weaved made it feel like it wasn't as long as it is. When I finished I was like, "Why did that take me so long to read?" and upon looking here I found out it was over 700 pages and was shocked.

I really can't think of anything bad to say here. Hardcore lady types with swords and kickass magic powers? double sapphic slowburn? Weird asshole cosmic horror god? A sassy talking sea gull? Pirates? I mean honestly what more could I ask for from a book, honestly.

I adore the conclusion we get at the end. It was so satisfying the way things ended and were dealt with. The fact that there is a bit of a cliffhanger and we are going to be getting spinoffs from here is so exciting. I cannot wait to see what Vodvarka writes next.

TLDR: if you love baddass ladies with swords, sapphic slow burn romances (this one has two), found family, healing from trauma, pirates, and magic then this trilogy might be for you!

I received an ARC of this book from the author - in the interest of time I also relied on a summary of Unbound (book 2) as I haven’t had a chance to read it yet. That being said I will 100% going back to read it as soon as possible because I ADORE this series and the characters that Vodvarka has brought to life.

Unyielding truly has everything one could want in a fantasy. Exciting, well written fight scenes blend with magic that is fun, varied, and at times even jaw dropping. If I had to pick a book based purely on how entertaining it is to read and how much it kept me constantly wanting more, this would very likely be it!

As excellent as the rest is, the characters are even better and are where this series shines brightest. The depth and heart to Nyssa, Quinn, Reece, and Medias in particular are amazing and if I could sit down and have a beer with Nyssa I would in a heartbeat. I cheered with every victory, held my breath with every hurdle, and felt my heart flutter as the couples’ romantic connections continued to grow.

I am a huge lover of birds, and Hookfoot (a SASSY talking Seagull) is one of the greatest creations in all of literature. Simply perfect in every way.

As an epic finale, Unyielding delivers on all accounts. Fulfilling payoff and the feeling of a story truly well told, while leaving plenty of room to see the characters I dearly hope to spend more time with again.

In short, PLEASE read this book! It’s amazing and I sure as heck will be picking up a paper copy for re-reads.

A truly great ending, that isn't actually a true ending since more books in this universe are coming, but it nicely finished off this arc of Nyssa and Quinn's story. It wasn't flawless: some secondary characters that I loved were present for too few scenes (Fontaine) and I felt like Nyssa and Quinn got beaten up too often for a pair of gods. I mean, I get it, the author couldn't make them too extremely powerful or the fights would get boring and then there'd be no tension left, but they really got beaten too often during all three books.

But, and this is a really important but, it managed to hold my attention and distract me during an extremely stressful few days, which really helped me stay sane. The immersive writing, very creative world, beautiful, broken, extremely stubborn and loyal characters and epic action scenes; it was an engrossing story. Nyssa and Quinn's romance was so cute, passionate, loving, supportive and respectful, I really loved reading any scenes with the two of them. The entire found family was simply delightful. A couple gods made an appearance and I'm really looking forward to seeing more of one of them in particular. And the ending was satisfying, while leaving a few loose ends untied for the next books.

All in all, I'm really glad that I found this series and I'm looking forward to the aforementioned next books.

“Unyielding” is the third book of the Blacksea Odyssey and concludes the first phase of the series. The story picks up right at the end of the second book, “Unbound.” The ending was PERFECT, although beware that there IS a cliffhanger in the epilogue... The final showdown between Quinn and Ceril her lifelong captor was brilliantly done!

The book releases on October 23, so I read this as an arc, as I did with the second book. (I read the first book with Indie Visible.) This series has a mostly female cast, with several sapphic relationships. I think my favorite character arc is Medias’; I LOVE where she starts and ends up! But I love ALL the characters and so can’t pick an all-time favorite!!! (Not necessarily the villains tho.) I’m not much of a bad guy fan, but I do wish we got more of a back story for the main villain. I think Unbound is still my favorite book of the series, but they’re all amazing!

Please read this series if you like fantasy at all! Like, there’s no reason not to! Like I said, the book is queer af and enemies to lovers (several relationships), has found family, pirates, weird otherworldly gods, and is just a beautiful fantasy series.

The stakes were always going to be high in the conclusion to this trilogy. Marked Gods, they have access to a lot of power - ancient magic. But even so, they are still mortal, at the whim of their own bodies and void collars, and one mistake too many and things could come crashing down.

The book open where the last one left off, with a bargaining chip for their freedom. Things, though, as expected, don't go well, and from there on it's quite a bit of a mess as they try and stop Ceril from reaching his goal. It's fast paced, chaotic, with plenty of action, surprises, and development of the various relationships. Multiple characters get screen time, as in the previous books, and it was nice to see where some of them ended up.

It's an enjoyable ride, and a good conclusion to the series, with most things are resolved. Of course, it's not completely over, with a couple of teases at the end (and the authors note) hinting at things to come. It will be interesting to see where the characters go from there.

All up, an enjoyable series that I am glad to have read, and I look forward to seeing what else she writes in the future.

As the third book in the series, the world and character building was over and the main focus was on the plot, making the 700 pages a much faster read than expected. The heroes were easy to root for, especially the second couple, which were my favorite in this book. Medias and Reece were my favorite characters in this book and their romance and character growth were both highlights for me.The heroes are a friendly, tight-knot group with easy banter.
Preventing 5 stars was repetitive situations, such as void collars which seemed more like a forced plot device to create a level playing field for fights. Also fights seemed to go on much longer than necessary (20+ pages), and the length of the fight didn't enrich the plot.
The main villian was frustratingly invincible. Heroes were constantly surprised by the villian creating wraiths, even though this was his main attack. Multiple encounters with him and his wraiths, and they never came up with a battle plan to deal with the wraiths that were inevitable.
Still, I plan on re-reading this series, and look forward to the next book/series for this world and characters.

I acknowledge that I am very effusive about the books I loved reading and all I can say is that I am a great lover of fiction and I am not ashamed to recklessly praise the stories that move me. I will also point out in my defense that the gulf between a book I loved and one I really liked is fairly wide and unassailable.

All that to say that I found this book to be amazing! The drama! The intrigue! The romance! Medias being the possibly the most stubborn human in the world! More drama! A villain that is so detestable that you wouldn't waste your drink on him if he was on fire! Really, what a ride. Nyssa and Quinn struggling to reconcile the darker parts of themselves against their relationship is well written and interesting to read, if frustrating at times. I have never wanted to shake a person, fictional or otherwise, as much as I wanted to give Medias a good rattle. Luckily she got there in the end. I would have been inconsolable if she hadn't. I loved the whole series and the author rather cruelly set some vicious hooks at the very end so now I'm dying for more.

Vodvarka ended the series with a bang.

In Unyielding things got darker for our characters as a whole. As Medias takes more of a central role to this story, we see more of...what's behind the mask. A chilling and intense mother/daughter relationship is added into Unyielding. Check the trigger warnings carefully before reading if you are sensitive to dark scenes.

Nyssa and Quinn have been the enduring love story I've been rooting for since day one, and readers get to see that love deepen and strengthen...but will it remain Unyielding or will the Cursed Gods be defeated by Anelos? Read to find out.

The twists and turns will keep you on the edge of your seat. The final installment of the trilogy brings the same action packed intensity infused with bits of humor and banter that were present in book 1 and 2 and closes out the trilogy well. The BSO takes its place among a growing wave of great sapphic fantasy titles!

Brilliant end to an absolutely captivating adventure. I loved all three books, and they didn’t decline in quality as some series can. The characters kept being developed, the tension and stress remained high, the relationships evolved. I cannot recommend this series enough. I love Nyssa. The way she’s the most fierce and angry warrior ever, but she can cry and love with an open heart? And Quinn, who is introverted and takes time to open up and love. There isn’t a character in the book about whom I couldn’t go on a huge long rant saying how much I love them and why! There are gods and monsters in this book, villains and heroes, traitors and redemption. This last book felt very high on action, but I really liked that. It kept my adrenaline going and I just needed to read more. I cannot wait to see if we get more stories from this universe because I will be first in line to read them. 5/5, I will be reading them again!!!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This trilogy by indie author J.A. Vodvarka completely swept me away on an interstellar adventure I didn’t know I was craving. My wife recommended this series to me, and I’m so glad she did. I devoured all three books back to back.
Set against a vast, imaginative universe filled with cosmic storms, pirate crews, and mysteries, the Blacksea Odyssey Trilogy is a swashbuckling adventure at heart and it’s sapphic! Watching the romantic tension unfold between the leading women made my little queer heart so happy.
Book 2 ended up being my favorite of the trilogy, it dives deeper into the worldbuilding, expands the lore, and raises the emotional stakes in ways that had me absolutely glued to the page.
If you love the adventurous spirit of Treasure Planet and the seafaring wonder of Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas, you need to add this series to your list. It’s available on Kindle Unlimited, and it deserves so much more love. ⚓️🚀

Grand finale of a great fantasy trilogy: buckle up!
Three great books in a row! A rare feat. Kudos to Vodvarka for just raising the bar with each book and surpassing it.
The world-building is exquisite with rich details I savored throughout this book and the whole series. The main characters and found family of misfits, pirates, and some respectable folks are a joy to read - depth, characters, relations. All well done. The turns, twists, upheavals are expected and when you least expect it unexpected: Not everything falls into place for our heroines. There is a lot of action and fights and there are tender moments.
It‘s rare that I touch longer books but Unyielding kept me glued to the book for 700 pages - not a dull moment.

I received an ARC. The review is left voluntarily

Unyielding was a great addition to the Blacksea Odyssey! I think the sign of a good book is when it really makes you feel what the characters are going through and has you continue to think about them even when you aren't reading. This book does that! I felt like I truly cared for the characters in this series. There were definite moments where I was laughing out loud along with times when I had tears in my eyes. I was glad that everyone got a full story and some solid resolution to the plot lines. The way the end came together while still leaving things open for future books was great. 10 out of 10 I would 100% recommend this book to everyone. I read them all as ebooks to begin with but loved them so much I went back and ordered them all from the author directly to get signed copies!
