I will start off saying that Katherine Lowry Logan and the Brooch series are among my absolute favorites. I wait with impatient anticipation every year for this book. This book was a longer wait, but so worth it. I won’t reveal any plot points, but I will say there were many twists and turns in this book I never expected. Some questions from the series have been answered, and of course, more have been raised. I’ve decided that while I’m waiting for the next book, I’m going to reread the whole series.
I love this series & was really looking forward to the latest book. I am not sure how I feel about this story. The first part of the book was rather dull & seemed to drag with too much descriptive details. The story improved & the ending was unexpected. I can’t say it was my favorite book
When I saw this book available I was incredibly excited, it has been a bit of a wait since the previous book. But then I opened it, and realized I was struggling to keep the characters in order. So, there's only one solution...go back and re read all of the others. Which I did, and I enjoyed them as much the second time as the first.
This story is excellent with a fantastic trip back in time to Buffalo and the Expo, another visit with TR, and even some truly surprising twists and turns. Absolutely you should read it, but only if you've read the others...if not go back and start at the beginning. You will thank me!
I have really enjoyed this series because the time traveling typically took characters to interesting points in time where they had a great adventure & found love along the way while furthering the overarching plotline of the mysterious brooches. That is until this book. For the 3rd time it's set with TR & the early 1900's which I found redundant. There is NO "adventure", let alone a great one. The soul-mate love plot was beyond superficial & painstakingly dull...no struggle, no fireworks, one dimensional characters & absolutely non-essential. As for Erik & the brooches? What a disappointing dud! Nothing happened to further that plotline until the knee capping trite "reveal" at the end which abruptly ends this series. What a letdown.
Loved the book it followed the same format of the others in the series after a large number of books of the same format I think I am getting over them the end and what happened I thought was ridiculous I know time travel is fantasy but the end in this is over the top very disappointed
Spoiler Alert This was worse than the ending to Lost. Aliens? Really? I have tolerated the last few books in the series due to unlikeable and almost caricature-like characters because I was following the bigger story. Very disappointed.

Original Read Date: 02/25/24 - 03/07/24 Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Steam: 🔥🔥 Tropes: time travel romance, historic romance, early 1900s, friends to lovers, soul mates POV: Third person, multiple pov
Plot: exciting Ending: surprising, but a little slow
Synopsis: Clay McIntyre is transported back to 1901 Buffalo after discovering a Celtic brooch in the house his uncle left him in his will. Determined to help his friend, Patrick Mallory along with several members of the Fraser clan head back in the past once again.
My opinion:
Pros: This adventure was just as good as the previous ones. The research that is put into these books really help you feel immersed in the time. Katherine Lowry Logan is one of my definitely read authors so I went into this one without having read the synopsis. That brought a lot of excitement for me as a reader. I liked that TR was in this one again and even though he is a fictionalized version of the real life person, it felt like you got to know him.
Cons: I didn't like the surprise at the end. Maybe that's not the right way to put it, but it didn't feel right to me. Plus the reaction of the characters to the news was a little too reactionary imo. On top of that as much as I love these books, the characters are getting hard to keep straight. Also, I just don't enjoy Sam as a character as the parts she's in left me wanting to skip.
Definitely ties up a few loose-ends in this series...but I felt it was all rushed to get to the biggest secret. And who was actually shooting at JC and Patrick? Archibald? Micheal Knox? Archibald told Clay that he delivered Kit onto the porch at MacKlenna Farm, bit Erik said the same thing. Confused. I always felt that Erik was otherworldly, but why leave? Ofella says that Micheal Knox has an account that was just created 10days after Archibald died. Have billions in the account. In the present. Is there going to be a soul mate story for Remy, Lincoln, Noah, Clay, Rory, and Robert? And what about the boy MacBain twins...Henry and Robbie? And in the Bloodstone book Isabella says she is an antinatalist and that she only had one partner...Susan, when Sten kidnapped her. So how can Robert and Isabella hit it off which is implied towards the ending of this book? Like I said earlier ...great adventures, but it was rushed...leaving out details of who,how and why. All the other book have that. Alot of holes in story.

After the last book I wasn't sure I wanted to read another book. I'm so happy I did. This one is more like the earlier ones. The language wasn't crude or raw and the love scene was tastefully done without pages and pages of graphic sex. A love scene with taste and romance. I fell in love with Clay and Rory from the first pages. TR is also a favorite historical hero to me and enjoyed in the previous novels. I kept wanting to go back to their story. I appreciate the way Logan keeps one updated on all the characters but it got a bit drawn out and tedious in places. (maybe because I wanted to get back to Clay and TR) I can see why it took so long to write, there were about three different stories in here. It was a nice tie-up to the brooch mystery, hopefully there will be more adventures.
As always another outstanding addition to this series. I love that everything builds from book to book and all the rich details provided especially the continuation of TR’s path to the White House. Every character she creates is multi layered and interesting and Clay & Co no different. Seeing how a grown up Patrick has turned out, JC recovery and all the other twists and turns kept me reading well into the night. A lot of pieces appeared and I love direction she is going. As always thought provoking, stimulating, and you run through every emotion before it ends. No spoilers. Must read in order to fully understand though still an exciting read on surface. So read 1-12 you will not be sorry though set time aside as lovely, lovely long books! What now for 14th? Can’t wait.
Great story in a similar vein to Logan’s other 12 books but not so many explicit sex scenes. As noted above, there is an outstanding twist at the end. Can’t wait till the next installment but that’s the problem with getting her books as soon as they are available digitally. Several new characters are introduced, adding, unfortunately, to the mish mash of other characters that have been eluding my brain since about book 11. Logan has published a cast of characters and their relationships, on her website, I think. Correct me if I’m wrong. For history lovers, all her books are meticulously researched according to the era in which they are set. I highly recommend this series for time travel and history enthusiasts.
Historical Romance is one of my favorite genres add in time travel and it’s all the better. I love these well developed characters who feel like extended family by now. I enjoyed the time travel adventure back to 1901 and the historical elements. I am glad that JC and Emily finally got together. Also love Patrick and his soulmate Sarah. Sarah being Kit and Cullen’s granddaughter was a pleasant surprise! Little Rory was so adorable and I love the bond between him and Clay. Although it didn’t work out with Sarah for Clay I hope he finds his special lady and Rory a new mom soon!
I am unable to think of a single word declaration that would express my feelings for his book. So I’ll say it in a sentence or four. This is by far the best story of the brooches yet. It was so satisfying and heartwarming that I want to start reading them all again. I absolutely love this family and all of the trials and upheaval that they have endured that has developed their growth and love for each other. I am anxiously hoping for more brooch travel and love stories, but if they were to stop now I would feel fulfilled and content with the stories that have been told. Well done Ms. Lowry Logan, very well done.
I have to admit I was getting a little tired of the series with the last three books. They started to feel formulaic in plot with excessive swearing that didn’t always seem warranted and on-page sex that read more like porn than two soulmates coming together. My expectations of this book weren’t high. But. Logan turned it around. THIS is the feeling of earlier books. With twists and turns that kept you engaged. If you’d asked if I wanted the series to go on after Bloodstone, I might’ve said maybe. But now I can say yes, bring on the next one.
I have throughly enjoyed all the books in this series. I really have to pay attention to the storylines due to all the characters. The ending of this book was suprising and a work of art. Can't wait to read the next book. Katherine is a master storyteller and researcher. Her imagination is off the charts. I highly recommend this series. There is never a dull moment with Clan McKennan.
I have been waiting, and waiting and then waiting for more. I hope you get them finished in the not so distant future I am now 81 years old, and I want to finish them before I leave this world. I have enjoyed each and every one! They are like family to me I laugh with them, cry with them, feel their pain and their happiness. Keep doing what you do so very well! I enjoy the history lessons, too. Thank you very much for sharing your stories with us!!!!
I have loved all these books! Couldn't wait for the next one to come out. The ending on this one leaves me hanging. To find that the whole story of all the brooches was simply a science experiment for them was very disappointing. I had no trouble believing they could time travel with the brooches. It was very interesting. But the end of book 13 nope not having it!
I loved this book. I read it slower than I normally do in order to enjoy the parts with TR. Ever since I visited Medora in 1996, I have been fascinated with the man and the President and enjoy reading the history Katherine brings to each of these novels. The relationships are the best part though, and delightfully woven into historical time travel. Great twist at the end!
This book was simply brilliant. It is the reason I love this author and the series. Unlike recent segments, it was not overloaded by detail And a plethora of characters. It was a classic brooch book. I loved savoring this book and I so enjoyed the pace and the development of the characters and I took my time because I wanted to save her the story and the whole ambience of the novel.
Be prepared for more twists and turns than a pretzel has! Fascinating story of time travel, love, betrayal, adventures, and mystery! I don’t like spoilers, so that’s all I’ll say! Don’t miss this one, and I can’t wait for the next one! Thanks, K.L.L, for continuing this epic series!!
I thought I would never see this book come to my library. Actually thought I surely missed it. Hate that the story came to an end. Or Dr does it ? I have loved these stories since the very first. Katherine is one of the best time travel story tellers. If you haven't read this collection, start falling in love today. Just saying, I loved them.
I had a hard time with this one, but I still love the series. The aliens and illuminati stuff is just too silly. Bugs me terribly. Seems she's trying to wrap it all up like she's tired of it all. Hopefully the silly crap is done and we can finish the series with a couple more adventure like on the beginning.
A Brilliant writer and a Brilliant book. There are new characters, special emphasis on some well known ones and new insights into others. I learnt about a significant time in history and admired the way our story familiars blended into it. A wonderful read.
To see James Cullen mostly recovered and well on his way to totally well was a relief. Patrick showing a new level of leadership, and Emily thriving. It was like a heartfelt visit with pols friends. I don't want to tell spoilers, but .... So many questions answered.
Thank you Katherine Lowry Logan for bringing back this intriguing and complicated family… I hope book 13 is not the end of the series. This book was full of twists and turns, and fans will not be disappointed. Give us more! This would make a wonderful streaming series.
This journey with each book, each adventure, each Brooch has been the best few months of reading. I shake my head and wonder at the brilliance of this author. Knowing there are more Brooches to be discovered I can't wait for her next book! This series does not disappoint.
This book seems to tie up all the McClenna family's story . (-I am still hoping there will be more books. ).Reading about the next 2 couples coming together and the family unity in the whole story, makes me wish there was no end to the story. I hope Ave loved the whole series. Please write more!
