WOW, what a brilliant conclusion to this trilogy. There is so much that Leo and Slater have to do to end the wars between Earth and Mars. The biggest mission is to kill the crazed president of Mars Clayton Whitaker, whose brain is inside an AI because when Leo tried to kill him before he had succeeded but Whitaker’s brain had been put in one of the AI bodies that looked like his human body, Whitaker will never be satisfied he is always looking for something else to destroy.

17 year-old Leo’s previous mission involved him killing a number of innocent people. He found that hard to come to terms with and wants to leave Mars for good. But to do that he needs to Catch up with Slater again. He has no idea if she will speak to him after their last falling out. But it’s his only option. Then his only mission is to kill Carlton Whitaker and put and end to the war for good. Because Whitaker’s plan is to unleash his deadliest weapon against the unsuspecting Terran invasion fleet. Can Leo stop Whitaker?

This is an absolutely gripping conclusion to the Mars alone trilogy. Everything is cleverly weaved together tying all loose ends from the previous books. I love how Leo’s character has grown from that young lad we met in the first book, to the confidant person we see in book three. He has faced war, loyalty and sacrifice. His reunion with Skater is great and their relationship has grown. It’s like they haven’t been apart.

There are a number of twists and turns along with new challenges in book 3, some parts I found heartbreaking and I needed tissues. Strickland has managed to build this terrific world in space, full of action, adventure, and a little mystery.

If you like science fiction reads then treat yourself to this trilogy, you certainly will not regret it. It is written for YA but to be honest I think it’s suitable for any age. I have absolutely loved the series.

I would like to thank @EyeandLightning for a gifted copy of this book, all thoughts and opinions are my own and have not been influenced in any way.

I'm probably at least 30 years older than the target audience for this book, but it has pretty much everything I like about science fiction, and Mars is such a great setting. Very nicely done.
