This is an astonishingly well researched and detailed account of the various preconditions, mechanics and impacts of the issue of paper money in colonial Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina. The broad scope and granular detail relative to the amount of analysis unfortunately require more perspicacity on the part of the reader than might be warranted to expect given the complicated mix of local situations and schemes in the several colonies over and against the fiscal demands and constraints imposed by the crown.
