This is a fantasy written by the author of 夜市 (Night Market) which I adore very much. Similar to Night Market which is composed of 2 novella, this one is a collection of a dozen short stories set in various worlds, and each have some tenuous connections with other stories. People can move between worlds, sometimes through a miniature garden or down a long staircase in the middle of a desert. I don’t know how best to describe the storytelling here. I wouldn’t say it’s fast paced but it’s definitely a page turner. Something about his writing or his world building that just draws me in. Each short story is great and fascinating on its own but as a collection, it’s absolutely terrific!
