Rate this book
Despite the rocky start to her life at the Academy, Yumiella Dolkness has safely managed to graduate, and now she’s on to the next chapter of her life—stepping into her new role as countess! Yumiella’s determined to learn how to properly manage Dolkness County, her family’s estate, but she soon finds there’s quite a lot of work that needs to be done. Decades of neglect from her parents have left the county in shambles, and now it’s up to her to whip things back into shape!

Yet, even beyond that, Yumiella’s life isn’t all fun and games. Back in the Royal Capital, a group of corrupt aristocrats have begun to push for the second prince, Prince Edwin, to succeed Valschein’s throne, and they appear to be planning something even more sinister behind the scenes…

Still, whether she’s dealing with a mysterious shadow group or problems with her county, Yumiella will handle it in the same way she always does—by using her level 99 strength!

Maybe the author was short on ideas, but taking Yumiella from "competent gamer nerd" to "TSTL" sure was a choice. Yumiella lived for twenty years in modern Japan; you can't tell me that she doesn't know what a ring on your left ring finger means or is so socially inept as to not understand basic human interactions. The fantasy plot is still a lot of fun, but Yumiella herself and her too stupid to live qualities are making me question whether or not it's worth it to keep going.

A rather inconsistent character...

I just finished reading the volume one when I jumped into this volume. Having watched the anime as my original introduction to the series I had a lot of thoughts of where this volume would end up. I was surprised to find out that the entire second arc of the anime had nothing to do with the first and second volumes of the light novels. Now I'm wondering if that was an anime exclusive short story?

Now moving on to why I went from full mark stars on Volume 1 to just two stars on volume two. I feel like the events within volume two are so low stakes that you don't even need a summary of what happened if you wanted to skip this volume and jump into volume three. It took me a lot longer to finish this volume because it was boring. Now normally just being a little boring wouldn't be enough to drop it below three stars for me but the inconsistency of the main characters behavior and intelligence between the first and second volume is what really grated against me.

In this volume the main characters intelligence has dropped so dramatically that she feels like a completely different person. Her level of cluelessness has skyrocketed to a profound level and it's almost insulting. Additionally, this volume seems to be focused entirely upon the theme that she is so darn clueless.

Normally I would have enjoyed a volume that was focused entirely upon the advancement of the romance between two characters that I was genuinely happy to see getting their deserved happiness... But instead they spent the whole volume focusing on her not being able to grasp the idea that she was in a relationship with her boyfriend. If that weren't bad enough they even made her forget the meaning of a ring finger in the first place. Things like that are not things she would have forgotten, especially being a reincarnated person from our world. It's just maybe she had too many blows to the head and the dungeons? Maybe every time she leveled up her intelligence level down? I mean, it's a level of frustration that I can barely express. I find myself dreading trying to read the next volume. what if her intelligence drops even further? I don't know if I could handle it... At this point she's not much smarter than Eleonora who was consistently clueless in the first volume.

I hope that no one thinks this review is an attempt at bullying. It really is genuinely my attempt at expressing how frustrated I feel from reading this. I almost feel like the author trolled me.

broski I was not prepared

So first off it was great.

2nd Those who read the reviews before picking up the book please ignore the ones saying our male lead doesn’t love our female lead. When we get his point of view he has the same anxiety our female lead does about their relationship except I imagine it’s much worse than the small glimpse we get to see. And the book is really good and has some good wow moments. Though if you struggle with female leads that aren’t constantly being multiple steps ahead then please don’t review this book when you hate on it. Our female lead is more brawn but she isn’t stupid. She just doesn’t focus on things that she doesn’t understand in the moment. Which honestly is great for those of us who grew tired of over- competent leads. I personally enjoy both types of leads but I’m more enjoying that the misunderstandings is contributed to her trusting her male lead than it being the usual “oh he isn’t for me” “I’m not the one he loves” “he’s meant to be with someone else” etc..

3rd Wonderful book. I was thrown off quite a few times and when I predicted the ending twist you even convince me I was wrong then nope retwist my prediction was right. I love that. Thanks to being autistic and adhd I’m so used to patterns that I over predict what comes next and it tends to ruin moments ( of course I still get some satisfaction from being right but not the same joy of shock) however every time I was sure I knew what was gonna happen next you would add a twist that would either throw me off when I was correct or make me completely wrong. Which was quite enjoyable.

4th the cringy moments are far less cringe than most books. Usually the secondhand embarrassment means I have to pause reading to handle the feelings for a bit and then can return to reading but I didn’t have to pause or freak out at all.

5th and final part I can’t wait to read book 3 I already bought it so I’m gonna start on it in a few minutes. Please if you are a fast reader buy it all at once it saves so much time and sometimes a little money.

one of my favourite villainesses

I originally watched the anime of volume 1 for Villainess Level 99 and liked it so much that I needed to know what happened when the season ended so I decided to read the light novels. Volume 1 covers the anime season but volume 2 is a whole new act and totally worth my time.

Did not disappoint.

Things I love about this series above and beyond my love of for Villainess isekai tropes:
- this volume the characters are now out of highschool, “new adults”
- Patrick: look I just love a green flag male lead like him. He’s strong in his own right but has zero issue that she will always be strong then him, he also just GETS her and accepts her for her and all her quirks
- Yumiella: I really enjoy the very autistic coded heroine who doesn’t always get social cues and obsession with grinding in dungeons and fighting monsters leaves her oblivious to others motivations but rather then feeling too stereotypical and superficial, her desire to understand and grow is still there without losing herself and having to “change” to fit in. I also just love how awkward she is as she comes to term with her feelings for Patrick.

Having seen the Demon Lord defeated at the end of the previous book I was curious to see what happened next. In this book we see the various characters go about their lives. In particular we see Yumiella Dolkness taking up her duties as Countess (inherited from her parents) and working out her friendships with some of her former classmates.
That part of the story was quite engaging, and a refreshing change from many fantasy books which tend to ignore those sort of details. On the negative side I found the main character just a bit too oblivious to what is going on around her in a way that was intended to be funny but which I found painful. There are also a lot of loose ends from the previous book which are ignored - while we follow many characters from the first book a lot of other important characters are ignored.

Well, 4.5 actually.

The plot wasn't as well crafted as the first book, in my opinion. And some characters' motivations weren't convincing, they were acting in a certain way because the plot needed them to.
Also, I was quite confused by the specific ways they used the terms "dating", "engagement", "bethrotal" - I could say that I was as confused as Yumiella there! But I believe that was a translation issue.

Other than that, I absolutely loved the chillness and focus on the day to day tasks of a goodwilled aristocrat. The stakes are never too high, it is the idyllic gaming of books! And Yumiella/Patrick moments were as funny and cute as usual, effectively enough to single-handedly carry the story.

Will I read the third book? Absolutely!

Some of the reviews might hark on our MC's obliviousness to the thoughts/feelings/intentions of others, but that's one of my favorite things about the book

The first volume leaned heavy on her knowledge of the game from the point of view of playing it as a 20-something college student in modern day Japan, but at the end of the day, Yumiella was a loner who also grew up isolated in her new world

She's just now starting to form meaningful connections with those around her and over-analylizes the situations she finds herself in

The gag may get played out or repetitive in the future, but for now, I'm all for it

Eleanor is also quickly becoming a favorite character for me

A proposal

Yumiella Dolkness is an adorable character. She doesn’t realize that she’s engaged for the longest time. Yumiella also has an experience with alcohol. She gets sloshed, and admits her true feelings for her fiancé.

I enjoy this series because Yumiella is so socially inept. She doesn’t realize how she comes across to other people.
