Folrath

Rate this book
There have been many books written about East Bay punk, but none that captured the scene’s scrappy spirit––until now. [...] Folrath captures that shifting energy perfectly, with its highs and lows. Zak reports on the West Coast with an outsider’s perspective and an outsider’s appreciation, like Armistead Maupin and Cyra McFadden a generation before. He conveys the excitement of reinventing yourself in a city where you feel both finally at home and fundamentally out of place.

Zak is unflinchingly honest in his dive into the past, yet he manages to do it without boring the reader to death. He’s achieved the impossible: a minutiae-filled memoir that’s a page-turning thriller.

I took my time with this book. I’d actively do chores to avoid finishing this book. I was so lost in this world and had no desire to leave it. I’m taking away the idea that although people come and go from our lives, people we love, these people “brought things out of you that you didn’t know were there” and that IS worth a lot. I’m shit at writing reviews but felt like I wanted to say something here. I loved this one.
