The Legacy Tree

Rate this book
The Legacy Tree is a contemporary romance novel based in a suburban Maryland town about a young woman, Robyn Douglass, who is content with the connections she has made in her life. Though she is a large woman, she is both physically active and has a normal social schedule. In addition, she has a fine job that she enjoys, a loving set of parents who are still married after many years, and a best friend whom she?d met as a pre-teen. It doesn?t seem possible that her life could get much better, until her best friend invites her on a camping trip over her birthday weekend. What follows is a compelling story of two very ?real? people who love each other desperately but can?t seem to find their way into each other?s arms.

This is the first book I have read by this author. Not knowing what to expect, I was pleasantly surprised how much I liked the book in general.
Robyn Douglas and Erik Richards have been best friends since childhood. They both have been in love with one another forever, but are scared to reveal their true feelings for one another.
Robyn has some self-eteem issues, and there were times I wanted to pull her aside and shake her. She does some not so smart things throughout the book to push Erik away, but I was willing to overlook it.
This was an emotional read at times. There are some sad things that happen to both characters, but it ends up making them stronger and their relationship even closer. I found myself rooting for both of them, and was very satisfied with the ending.

This is my second book by this author. I have no idea why she is not more popular. I really enjoy her books.

The one thing that bothers me with most contemporary romances is that they can verge on the cheesy side. Things are a bit silly and overdrawn, but I never feel that way in Rida Allen's books. Character dialogue isn't ridiculous, the characters don't make assumptions about their own personalities.

I really enjoy her writing and I will be reading more of her work in the future.
