Women tend to work much harder, yet they are held to higher standards and face greater obstacles when it comes to receiving their deserved recognition.
She Storms the Norms is a powerful sequel to the bestselling book Storm the Norm, and showcases the inspiring stories of women who have overcome the triple challenge of societal beliefs, structural barriers and self-doubt.
These women are from different sectors and walks of life, and their experiences and stories are also vastly different. However, what they have in common is that each one of them has overcome patriarchy at home, at work and within their own minds.
This book is a beacon of inspiration for countless young women who aspire to break barriers and achieve success in their professional and personal journeys. It encourages readers to challenge norms and become agents of change and fulfilment.
If you are determined to defy norms and make a difference, this book is a must-read.

Sameer Gudhate presents the Book Review of She Storms the Norms by Anisha Motwani & Priyadarshini Narendra
Have you ever found yourself stuck between what society expects of you and what your heart truly desires? I know I have. And that’s why She Storms the Norms felt less like a book and more like a series of heart-to-heart conversations with women who’ve lived through that very conflict—and come out victorious.
Written by powerhouse authors Anisha Motwani and Priyadarshini Narendra, this book is a follow-up to the bestselling Storm the Norm. But this time, the spotlight is firmly on women—women who’ve not just broken barriers but blasted through them. Anisha, a respected business leader and the force behind StN Ventures, and Priyadarshini, a seasoned marketing and strategy expert, bring credibility and empathy to every story they tell. Their professional gravitas is matched beautifully by their emotional insight.
She Storms the Norms brings us 17 real-life stories—raw, inspiring, and incredibly diverse. These aren’t just tales of success; they’re stories of resistance, grit, and evolution. From scientists and athletes to rural entrepreneurs and influencers, the book presents a wide spectrum of women who’ve challenged patriarchy at home, at work, and—perhaps the hardest—within themselves. Each chapter isn’t just a story; it’s a spark. It tells us: "She did it. You can too."
What I loved is how varied the settings are—metros, rural areas, plush boardrooms, bustling clinics, social media corners, and laboratories. Yet a common thread ties them all together: resilience.
The writing is crisp and very accessible—perfect if you're someone who enjoys heartfelt stories without needing to wade through heavy prose. The tone is conversational, almost like listening to a podcast or sharing chai with a friend who’s pouring her heart out. And yet, it doesn’t lose its grip on structure or thoughtfulness.
Each story ends with “success hacks” or “hacks to storm the norm,” which feel less like preachy advice and more like practical nudges—gentle reminders that change begins with action.
Since this is non-fiction, we don’t have “characters” in the traditional sense. But honestly? These women are more vivid than any fictional character I’ve read recently. What struck me was the intersectionality—stories cut across class, geography, and industry. One moment, you’re reading about a royal; the next, about a woman who rose from poverty. And that makes this book more than inspirational—it’s inclusive.
The themes of internalized patriarchy, glass ceilings, and invisible labour are woven with sensitivity. There's no single story of triumph; each journey is deeply personal and complex, just like real life.
The structure is clean and effective—each story stands alone, but there's a subtle progression. You start feeling like you're meeting 17 strangers, and by the end, it’s like you’ve built a small tribe in your head. The short chapters keep the momentum going and make it easy to dip in and out—great for a busy reader.
This book isn't just about women's empowerment. It's about dismantling norms from the inside out. It explores shame, fear, ambition, guilt, love, and self-worth—universal themes wrapped in specific, grounded narratives. It doesn’t scream feminism—it breathes it.
More than once, I paused and just sat with my thoughts. Some stories made me smile with pride. Others made me tear up. A few made me angry—in that good way that pushes you to do something. And that’s the power of well-told truth—it stirs you up.
Its biggest strength? Representation. The sheer diversity of voices makes this book a mirror to every kind of woman—and even the men who need to listen more. Also, the authors’ choice to keep their writing light yet meaningful works brilliantly.
If I had to nitpick, I would say a few stories could’ve delved deeper. Some chapters end just when you want more emotional context. But maybe that’s the point—it leaves you wanting more of these voices in the world.
As a reader, and more importantly, as a parent to a young daughter, this book gave me hope. It’s the kind of book I want her to read someday—not to tell her she can do it, but to show her women already are doing it.
She Storms the Norms is not just a book—it’s a movement in paperback. It’ll make you think, reflect, and maybe even write your own story someday. Highly recommended for anyone who believes in equity, change, and the unstoppable spirit of women.
Add it to your TBR—and better yet, gift it to someone who needs that nudge to storm their own norm.

In the tumultuous landscape of gender dynamics, this book emerges as a seminal work, a beacon of light illuminating the path for generations of women striving for recognition and equality. Building upon the foundation laid by its predecessor, "Storm the Norm," this powerful sequel transcends the mere retelling of tales; it delves into the intricate tapestry of societal constructs, structural impediments, and the labyrinth of self-doubt that women navigate with unwavering resilience.
Authored by visionary trailblazers, it is not just a compilation of stories; it is an anthology of courage, perseverance, and audacity. Through meticulous curation, the book unveils the riveting narratives of women who have dared to defy the shackles of patriarchy, transcending boundaries imposed by tradition, prejudice, and systemic biases.
From the corridors of corporate powerhouses to the trenches of grassroots activism, each narrative in this compendium serves as a testament to the indomitable spirit of womanhood. These narratives, diverse in their origin and trajectory, coalesce into a symphony of triumph over adversity, resonating with readers on a visceral level.
The brilliance of this book lies not only in its portrayal of individual struggles but also in its incisive analysis of systemic injustices. Through poignant storytelling and astute commentary, the book lays bare the insidious nature of gender discrimination, dissecting its multifaceted manifestations within the familial, professional, and psychological domains.
Furthermore, the anthology serves as a clarion call for societal introspection, challenging readers to confront their implicit biases and dismantle the entrenched structures of inequality. By amplifying the voices of marginalized women and foregrounding their experiences, it catalyzes a paradigm shift in the collective consciousness, igniting a fervent desire for societal reformation.
In conclusion,it transcends the realm of literature; it is a clarion call for action, a rallying cry for justice, and a testament to the enduring strength of the human spirit. To those who aspire to shatter barriers and redefine the contours of possibility, this magnum opus stands as an indispensable guide—a compass navigating the turbulent seas of gender inequality towards the shores of liberation and empowerment.
Women professionals in India face challenges on three fronts- societal expectations that discourage them from having dreams and/ or expect them to put their professional aspiration on the backburner and "settle down", challenges at educational institutions and in the workplace because of presumptions that women will not be as serious about their careers as men, and the crippling self doubt, anxiety and guilt that prevents them from reaching high. She Storms the Norms profiles seventeen women who in their own unique way has challenges some of the preconceived notions that people have about women professionals. While the authors have done a reasonably good job of seeking diversity, they are constrained by the fact that there are not too many professions where women have risen to the top. While there is one scientist, one actor, one media influencer, one hairdresser and one person from the development sector, most of the women profiled are from the corporate sector and have professional degrees from top institutions. Most of the women also come from a privileged background where education was prioritised and they were encouraged to have professional aspirations. This, however, is not a commentary on the process of selection as much as it is on the fact that there are very few women at the top of their professions (for example, I would have liked to read about a female politician, but to find one who is not a dynast and has also reached a fairly high level in the profession would be challenging). While each story is unique, certain generalisations emerge. Many of the women admit to seeking formal coaching/ mentorship when required- this is something that many women refrain from doing, yet is common to most of the women profiled. Many of them had strong family systems when their children were young, and those that didn't had partners who stepped up much more than normal fathers do. One thing that kept emerging from many of the women was that instead of seeking a work-life balance, one should seek a work-life harmony. One or the other might demand more at a given time, and the person should be able to do what it takes without guilt. This book will go a long way in empowering mid level professionals to navigate their professional lives with reduced guilt. However genuine equity will prove elusive till there is systemic change.
This book is an assortment of stories of a gathering of extremely different ladies who have each raised the standards in their own remarkable ways. The tales have these great ladies rejuvenate their battles and wins, their weak minutes and the times they assumed control over their stories in their own hands. This book isn’t simply an assortment of little histories, it is a reimagination of shows put on ladies by the general public through these brave ladies.
Every story is adjusted with a segment that spotlights one standard that will stand apart from the perusers. The narratives will have pieces of reflections and counsel, that will inspire the perusers as well. This book adds to the pantheon of books commending the breaking of biased-based impediments while showing a mirror to us all. The accounts converge with one another, making the book an astounding encounter. What I particularly loved is the wide diversity of the ladies covered, in addition to the known examples of overcoming adversity in metros.
The tales of the ladies are extremely different – from sovereignty to neediness, huge urban communities to rustic regions, the entertainment world to the corporate world, and so on. The sole thought process of this book is to move the perusers. “If they can make it happen, so can you”. I cherished perusing the tales of these resilient ladies and will profoundly recommend you add this book to your TBR!
Sometimes I find myself lost in thoughts about how some women strive to prove themselves superior in every aspect. Believe me, I feel that in their quest to establish their self-worth, they often end up belittling men. This sentiment resonates with the present situation. Women often seem to degrade men without contributing positively to anyone, not even themselves.
However, books like 'SHE STORMS THE NORMS' reassure me that not all women are the same. Some put in tremendous effort to prove their worth and assert their existence. They fight for themselves rather than against others. This book features numerous inspiring stories, and I can feel the hard work these remarkable women have put in to prove themselves and become the best versions of themselves. It demonstrates that women are equally capable of achieving remarkable feats compared to men.
I believe these women are true role models for society, showcasing how to establish one's worth without disparaging men. It takes more than just words; it requires strength. Men may be men, but women are not inferior. These sentiments are not just words; they signify understanding.
This book sets a prime example of breaking barriers and differences. It's a must-read for me and for sure , you people too loved it.
