Rate this book
Tessa Grayson was no longer that scared little girl cowering in the corner of her room as her abuser hummed over her a tune that sent fear into her soul. After she moved to Deer Creek, NY she never imagined that the secrets she buried long ago would come back to haunt her... until her phone rang. Let Me Call You Sweetheart began to play. Only one man knew the impact that tune had on her... and he was dead. When Tessa became a Christian she believed that she had been healed and had moved forward from her past. Now she found herself confused and terrified all over again. Where was God? She needed a hero, someone to save her from a threat masquerading as a monster from her past. The future Tessa dreamed about faded right before her eyes. Her desire to become a counselor. Sean Tyler's affections. All that she had worked so hard to accomplish. Would it all disappear when everyone realized how damaged she really was?

We meet Tessa as a beautifully broken, supportive side character who befriends Kate Benson in Next of Kin. It was so good that I immediately jumped into Let me call you Sweetheart and found myself engrossed in a story of redemption, suspense, love and the healing power of God. Ms. Smith’s artful masterpiece is captivating, and at many times heart wrenching yet heartwarming. I enjoyed book 1, however book 2 was a whole new level of emotions! The writing style is top-tier! Many times I cried as Tessa grappled with her worth and how her past indiscretions may tarnish her chances at love with Pastor Sean Tyler. Again, Ms. Smith does a fantastic job relating scripture and the truths of the Gospel to real human relationships and struggles. We see Tessa learn to let go and open up, ultimately confiding in a Godly support system. The dynamic between Sean and Tessa was absolutely beautiful and at times painful to watch unfold. I enjoyed every SECOND of this story! If you haven’t read Next of Kin (book 1), no worries, Let me call you Sweetheart can be read as a stand-alone.

I loved this book. The creepy, eerie undertones of the villain were a surprising darker piece that I wouldn’t have expected but truly made the lighter side of this book even more beautiful. Tessa’s story is going to be one so many people will be able to relate to and find solace in. I loved the added layer of flashbacks to Tessa’s past and seeing some of the psychology behind her healing journey was so cool to me. Definitely a book I’d recommend to anyone who’ll listen! Love love this author!
