Good Heavens! There are ghosts at Castle Omnis—ghosts with a mission.
How will the three eldest Bennet sisters react when they arrive there for an exclusive matchmaking house party? Lizzy, the more practical sibling, wonders if she should convince her sisters to return to Longbourn. Ghosts? Are they to be endured? Mary thinks so. Jane is not sure. Lizzy finds their interference maddening.
Darcy certainly does not wish Lizzy to convince the sisters to leave. He finds her fascinating—more fascinating than any other lady of his acquaintance. He realizes he made a huge misstep at the Meryton Assembly—he must make up lost ground. Castle Omnis seems to be the perfect place to show her that he is not the cad he at first appeared.
A delightful, amusing romp through the matchmaking challenges of a haunted country house party, where well-meaning specters seek the happiness of their charges.
I found this story very interesting and as we approach Halloween, appropriate to the season.
Mr. Bennet has an old friend, who invites Bennet's three oldest daughter to a matchmaking event at his Castle Omnis. Darcy, Charles and Caroline Bingley and Andrew Sproot (a childhood friend of Caroline's) are also invited. Mary has a secret: the ghost of her departed best friend, Heather, (who is visible to and talks with Mary) travels with her.
The Castle also has a secret. Many of the departed relatives of the Earl St. Edmund, present Master of the Castle Omins, are present in their spectre forms. At times various ones make themselves visible to or engage in conversation with the guests.
So we read as matchmaking has some persons whom we expect falling in love; but with some surprises among other guests. Caroline Bingley's matchup was fun to read about. There is even some matchmaking among the ghosts.
A novel and diverting concept, ghosts! And I also liked the idea of a matchmaking house party. The interactions are well written and the dialogs and situations are very entertaining. A most recommended story!
3.5* rounded down I've really enjoyed reading Ms Jackson's previous fantastic variations of P&P, but for me, this one fell short of the mark. Granted, I thought that the plot was fun and interesting, and the new characters (especially the "spirited" ones) were vividly sketched. I liked the re-appearance of Aunty from a previous book and her role in this story. Contrary to some other reviewers, I did not find the biblical references overbearing; rather they were used as quotes to further dialogue, just as philosophers' posits were used. What I didn't like was that this was actually a story about Mary being the central heroine - based on the fact that she is the only person able to see) communicate with the other-worldly. She may not be only spewing religious treatises per canon, but she is still very prickly and downright mean to Elizabeth without just cause. Further, Elizabeth's canon "accomplishments" had to be downgraded to bump up Mary favourably. Regardless of my issues with it and despite a few misnomers, this book is a novel variation and I will continue to look forward to any of Ms Jackson's stories.
Jane, Elizabeth, and Mary Bennet are invited to a house party along with Fitzwilliam Darcy, Charles and Caroline Bingley, and Andrew Sprott. It is hosted by a distant relative and old friend of Mr Bennet, who has an eligible bachelor son. The annual event is a known matchmaking event were everyone fears, Pride, or prejudices are overcome via fun events, communication and ghosts.
In this Pride and Prejudice delightful variation it is time for the match making house party at Castle Omnis, home of Earl Reginald St. Edmund and his wife Lady Sarah, and the ghosts of their ancestors. How will each of the guests cope with them and will any one have a happy ending. An entertaining and well-written story.
Sprightly, humorous, romantic, witty, and informative. An entire family, with many generations of ghosts, hold a house party to which the three oldest Bennet sisters, along with the Bingleys and Darcy, are invited. Lots of fun and ghostly humor.
I loved, loved, loved this book! This author has an amazing gift for writing with humor and heart. One of the best pride and prejudice variations I have ever read. Did I mention I loved this book!?
This is so very exciting with ghosts, or spectrums. Love the order of things and the matchmaking taking place. And our dear Mary gets the best...lots of hea's! Intriguing story ...and love the word tatadiddle!
There is so much to love in this version. The house party was enjoyable. The situations ODC find themselves in was unique and I loved every minute!
House parties and ghosts, what could possibly go wrong? Definitely a great formula for a delight JAFF. I loved Elizabeth and Darcy in this one as well. Mary gets her time to shine, I am a big fan of a good Mary arc.
This book is perfect for keeping you on the edge of your seat giggling, gasping, awww-ing, and sighing. The way everyone is encouraged to fall in love and trust their feelings is wonderful fun without any horrible embarrassment caused by others over selling someone. I loved this book!
It was so enticing that I couldn’t put it down, this book grabbed my interest from the very first page. I couldn’t put it down, I had to know what happened next. The story is well written with a very good storyline. You will see the most beloved characters in a whole new way. This is a Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice variation. A delightful, amusing romp through the matchmaking challenges of a haunted country house party, where well-meaning specters seek the happiness of their charges. I highly recommend to everyone.
This is clearly a story that is better with the fantastic narration of Benjamin Fife! His voices of each character especially the ghosts truly brought this book to a level I will gladly listen to again. I dont think I would have enjoyed it as much just reading it but the narration is what made it for me. There were a few things that I would have liked to see expanded or give something more. Overall it was a very enjoyable & laughed quite a few times that I will put this on my re-listen list.
I loved every minute of this lively variation of P&P. It was completely entertaining and beautifully witty. I thank Ms. Jackson for a wonderful time reading her work. Kudos, Ms. Jackson! P.S. more please!
