Warriors of Tavikh #3

Fated to the Alien Grump

Rate this book
Maeve

With the protection of a brand new identity, I flee Earth on a ship bound for a planet light years away from the death that awaits me if I remain here.

Months later, life on Tavikh is good. As long as I avoid the attention of the massive Tavikhi warriors—the alien race native to this planet. Two of my best friends may have found their mates amongst them, but the men—males—terrify me. Especially the largest, grumpiest warrior in the village.

Benham

From the moment the humans arrived on Tavikh, we have done our best to protect them from our enemies. And yet, all they do is take advantage of our shefir’s kindness. The new shefira and her four closest tribe sisters are the only exception.

They bring hope to our people. Or to those wishing for a mate. Which does not include me. At least not until I accidentally collide with the smallest, always-frightened female who triggers my mating marks. Now I must prove to her that, with me, she has nothing to fear.

Note: Some of my goodreads shelves can be spoilers

Overall: 4.5 rounded to ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Readability: 📖📖📖📖
Feels: 🦋🦋🦋🦋
Emotional Depth: 💔💔💔 (In all of these, I find myself wanting just a bit more character depth, more background)
Sexual Tension: ⚡⚡⚡⚡ (I think there was a good build up here!)
Romance: 💞💞💞💞
Sensuality: 💋💋💋💋
Sex Scene Length: 🍑🍑🍑 (about average?)
Steam Scale (Number of Sex Scenes): 🔥🔥
Humor: A touch
Perspective: First person from both hero and heroine
More character focused or plot focused? character
How did the speed of the story feel? slow to medium
When mains are first on page together: It takes a bit – about 18% in (chapter 3)
Cliffhanger: No this ends with a happily ever after
Epilogue: Yes, but it’s a preview in the next book’s character, Sage. The last chapter of the book is kind of like an epilogue though, taking place a week in the future from the end of the story.
Format: voluntarily read an advanced reader copy from the author in e-book format
(Descriptions found at end of my review)

Should I read in order?
Ideally yes because you’ll gain knowledge of the clan and characters as well as a bit of world building. But I did love that Hale started this one with a bit of a prologue that sets up Maeve leaving Earth and coming to Tavikh so it doesn’t start you off in the middle of the world (like book 2 did a bit). If you want the full story, you can also get Fated to the Lost Warrior as a newsletter grab freebie (which is the prequel novella).

Basic plot:
Maeve is aboard the ship bound for Tavikh under a new name and is hoping for a new life

Give this a try if you want:
- science fiction romance
- alien setting (primitive)
- this takes place in a futuristic time period (Earth is sending people to populate the planet Tavikh)
- alien hero/human heroine
- fated mates
- denial of a fated mate bond (she doesn’t just give in when it happens)
- survival themes
- hero runs the forge
- heroine has abuse and trauma from a prior relationship to overcome
- heroine nurses hero back to health
- slower burn
- found family vibes for heroine (with the other females on the planet)
-
- scarred hero
- lower to mid steam – 2 full scenes (but it feels like a touch lower page count)

Ages:
- Didn’t catch either?

First line:
Sweat trickles down my back and nausea churns in my stomach.

My thoughts:
I love that Hale included not only content warnings for her books, but also a note on chapter 1 that if the book opens to this page, the content warnings are available in previous pages. I personally have not come across triggers or content that bothers me, but I like to be cognizant of it for others and really appreciate Hale’s extra touch of empathy here (especially because many times e-books open after where content warnings are usually placed)

I was worried about getting into this one because Benham and Maeve are not together too often in the beginning of the book. It takes about 35-40% until they really start interacting and I was foaming at the mouth for them to be on page together more 😂 When they are together it’s perfection!

Benham is so deliciously gentle with Maeve, and so sweet. I loved their progression to getting to know each other and slowly opening up. Slower burns with tension build up are my favorite and I found that here. I still think I like the prequel novella just a bit more (Fated to the Lost Warrior) but this is a close second. I ended up really loving this couple.

Cock/Hero Stats: (some of this is taken from prior books about the culture and may not be specifically mentioned in this novel)

Maeve and Bentham’s emotional journey.

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💙💜💚❤️🩶
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Chemistry: 🧪🧪🧪
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏🌍
Character development: 🤓😋😀😍
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Maeve - she is always afraid, since her abusive relationship with her ex-David, who was from an upper caste while she was from the lowest. She escaped him by changing her identity and boarding a starship bound for the planet Tavikh. Her real name is Katherine, but she started going by a different name on the ship. She doesn’t want anyone to know anything about her and though she has made some good friends of the other women on Tavikh, none of them know anything about her past.

The Hero: Benham - he is the grouchy weapons maker for the Tavikhi community. He has been training Zara, a human female to be his apprentice and was surprised by her ability to make eye contact with him without shying away, she is tough for a human female. More than once he has exchanged harsh words with the humans that had made their home in the Tavikhi village and don’t do anything to help out in the village while also looking down on the Tavikhi people. The only exceptions are his leader Zander’s mate and he friends. Though he thinks it is best to keep people at a distance since they could die at any time if the Krijese attack again, like his family did.

The Story: Maeve knows that people who are dark inside often hide it in a veil of kindness and affability. Because of this she doesn’t trust anyone or anything. She just would like to fade into the background. Though one evening she crashes into a large Tavikhi male, Benham and he gets mating marks. She thinks he is the most terrifying Tavikhi warrior and is not happy at all to find out she is connected to him in any way. I love that their bond is first marked not by romance, but by collision—literal and emotional. That “crash” feels symbolic of the unraveling that’s to come: unexpected, jarring, and maybe even liberating.

Benham turns out to be a lot more sensitive than anyone would have guessed. He was deeply affected by the death of his parents five years ago and the loss of parents was something that he and Maeve had in common. This is incredibly rich, Maeve and Benham’s dynamic is steeped in layered emotional tension and aching vulnerability. Erin Hale carved out two souls who wear their armor in entirely different ways: Maeve hides in plain sight, suspicious and guarded, while Benham brandishes brusqueness like a shield forged from grief and wartime scars. Their emotional symmetry—both survivors of loss, both mistrustful of intimacy—sets the stage for a slow-burning, deeply cathartic arc.

This audiobook was narrated from multiple perspectives, done in dual narration by Penelope Ann Rose and Chris Chambers. Penelope Rose has a fantastic voice, which is very soft and feminine, I enjoyed her soft tone, and she was easy to listen to. Chris Chambers was not one of my favorites, but I am getting used to his clear, deep voice and liking him more and more as I listen.

The first part of this book was so promising to me. Maeve had all the trauma and Benham seemed like a good fit because he gave off protector vibes. But the love story was so rushed, which didn’t make sense to me given that Maeve didn’t feel a mate bond. Trauma recovery takes time and more effort than a few conversations.

Spice: 3.5/5

I’m digging these fated mate bonds! I’m a sucker for the circle of friends all finding HEA and this series continues to fill those buckets for me! These are short easy reads. If you’re looking for pallet cleansers or something light hearted with a fun story line this is the period read/series for you. Plus we all love a grumpy H 😉

I feel like the author could have made more effort with Zedam's story, instead all we got was that he was in a battle with the Krijese and that after he killed them he basically had amnesia and was wandering around for all the time he was missing until he got into another fight with more Krijese and then he got his memories back because he got hit in the head again. It was honestly the lamest thing to mention. I would've preferred that he somehow got taken prisoner or something and then escaped with his mate, anything but the whole amnesia. It's also a bit weird that there is exactly 1 tribe of the Tavikhi, and 1 tribe of the Krijese (that split into 2 technically after they defected in the last book) on this whole planet, or at least however far he travelled during his amnesia.

Anyway, onto the actual story... It was repetitive, again. I don't understand why authors feel the need to mention the same damn thing over and over again. How many times does one have to read that X happened to this character or Y happened to that character before it sinks in? It's not a long book where you would have to take a break when reading it and I may be older now but my memory isn't so bad that I have to be reminded maybe a chapter or two later of the same damn thing. It takes away from the story when the author does this.

Maeve was someone who I figured out her story right away and I appreciated the author trying to write about what the character actually went through and while she was scared/wary of others. Much like Benham though, the author seems to make her being a victim her only quality (his being the loss of his parents). Well that and that she was tiny so of course the author had to put the smallest human with the largest warrior 🙄😒. I will never understand everyone's obsession with making tiny, child like FMCs and pairing them with the largest male possible. Personally speaking, it's so overdone.

Benham was another one I was curious about but.. I mean his one defining feature seemed to just be that he lost his parents to the Krijese and basically didn't want to be close to anyone because of it, which is too bad because he seemed more interesting than that initially but seeing as the author constantly mentioned him losing his parents everything else is washed away. Him not wanting a mate also apparently got washed away like 2 seconds after it was mentioned. He even mentioned that he felt no connection to her but the next day he's taking her basket because it's heavy and apologizes to her for taking it because she freaked out and then when he goes back to his tent he's looking through his mother's things and envisions Maeve wearing this special mating ceremony clothing that had belonged to his mother. Tell me, where is the man who didn't want a mate? Who had his own issues and didn't feel the mating pull? I noticed that this author likes to change her MMC's personality to fit better with the FMC's and she's really doing it in this book. It was a bit noticeable in the last book where Zydon decided he liked humans, decided he wanted a mate and decided not to be a dominant male, basically changing his views and personality to make him more of a compatible match to Remi and that she would desire him more. And no, I'm not saying that just because the male is changing for the female, I don't like it when authors do the reverse either. Your characters should love each other regardless of who they are, not have to be changed to fit with them.

Speaking of Benham in general, I hate that he has no one in his corner, not even his friends. No, everyone is on Maeve's side and ready to defend her and while I have no problem with her friends standing up for her or protecting her, the fact that Zander is on her side as well breaks my heart a little for Benham. Why couldn't he stand up for his friend to reassure her that while no one will force her, Benham was a good guy? I also started to dislike the girls more and more in this book, and while I understand that Zara in particular is standing up for Maeve during that scene where she calls him a coward what did anyone honestly expect? Maeve didn't want anything to do with them being mates, and he was keeping his distance so he wouldn't trigger her but if course that's the wrong thing to do because he gets an earful from Zara for it. Again, no one is on his side and he can't seem to do anything right, even when he thinks he is doing as Maeve wishes. It's so fucken stupid. It comes off as catty and childish, a typical bitchy move by someone who just likes to put others down. And then when he goes to see Maeve, he's greeted with a pissed off Sage and her bitchy remarks and then Maeve lays in on him with a guilt trip and anything else she can do to make him feel like shit. To say I don't like them as a pair is putting it mildly. They both needed someone else to compliment them because this feels more like a book to shit on this man, rather than a romance between these two characters.

Also this is the first time I've seen a mistake with this author where she mentions Talek's father as Rasik when he was introduced as Samik and then goes back to being Samik on the next page. If the names of the characters are too complicated for you to remember as an author, maybe don't introduce so many new characters?

By far this is my least favorite book in the series so far and it's a shame because I liked each of these characters in previous books, and while I didn't particularly hate Maeve in this book, I didn't like her friends anymore and there were parts of the book with Maeve that I didn't like either but.... but I could overlook some of them because she's been a victim and while that's not an excuse to act like a bitch, I can understand a bit of it.

By the end of the book, I still had my reservations about them being a good match but Benham was such a lovable character that it saved the book for me. I honestly loved everything about him and he is by far my favorite male character in this series so far.

This book hit the sci-fi spot! I loved how the characters came together and the relationship didn't feel rushed, even though they were fated mates.

Each character was healing from their own hurt and losses and I really enjoyed watching them help each other heal.

I think my favorite part of this series is that each boom continues to expand on the world the author is developing! It is so much fun to continue to learn more about Tavikh!

Didn’t think I would want to read another alien romance but the second book in the series had me hooked and wanting to know what happened to the characters introduced at the end. Book 3 in the series has done that again so I can’t wait for the 4th book. A quick and fun read.

Oh my this book, it's the third book of the series but the first one i'm reading from the series and from this author and let me tell you first that I LOVE alien romance, I mean it, I completely love them. They are just so swoon & the cutest. I found confort in them so when I got this ARC, I was so happy and grateful. This book was literally so adorable but also really interesting and full of good people with only the best intentions they can be.

You have Maeve who leave earth to go on Tavikh, to have a better life but also to escape her crazy and dangerous ex boyfriend who did horrible things to her. Such a good character with such a big courage & heart even after everything happens to her. I just loved the way she made friends and trust them enough to tell her story. It was really moving but also heartbreaking because you understand how much pain she had inside her. Also the way she started to trust Benham with herself, her body but also the mated stuff was absolutely so powerful of her and beautiful to read. She's such a strong woman. And found love and trust after everything she's been thought is wonderful.

Benham oh my this male alien is something different. This grumpy warrior is everything you wish for in a romance like that, seriously, this is why I love to read aliens romance. Their males are just the best they can be and just so incredibly beautiful! The way he let Maeve be who she needs to be but also let her enough space with the mated bond is absolutely so cute. Also the way he trust Maeve enough to just to friends first is wow, wonderful. I know that how men are supposed to behave but still, I love him for that.

Anyway, everything in this book was perfection, I completely fall in love with the characters and the universe and the writing of Erin. Every part of this book was beautiful to read and you can't put it down one minute. Thank you for Maeve and her story but also thank you for this book and the arc. 💜🧡

Gleeful Goblin Review: I've been looking forward to this book to hear Maeve's story because she's been the most cagey and had hints dropped about a bit of a mysterious path from Earth to Tavikh. And the reason behind her fleeing Earth and being so skittish makes absolute, tragic sense because without giving anything away, it's related to DV and power imbalance at work/economic instability. But having fled for her own safety, she's now the last of her friends to get coupled up with a local. I absolutely love the scene with FMC and her friends in response to the news of having a mate; I think it's carefully done and I love the interaction between these women.

“What made you decide to come to Tavikh?” Remi asks. “Because my only other option was to stay on Earth and díe. A week before we got my ticket, David showed up at my room. I told him to leave, but he didn’t listen. He pushed me inside, slammed the door closed, and then he—” I snap my mouth shut, not wanting to say any more, and I won’t meet anyone’s eyes. I had no desire to relive that night. “Anyway, he finally left. When I was able to drag myself out of bed, I commed Chelsea. She came over, got me cleaned up, and hid me in the upper tier where no one would think to look for me until I could get on the ship. And now…here I am.” None of my friends speak and the silence lengthens. Finally, I look at London. Tears stream down her face. Zara’s too. In fact, they’re all crying except me. I’m not sure when the last time I had. Crying didn’t solve anything. London’s the first to move. Slowly, she gets to her knees and ever so gently gives me a hug. Another weight is added to that as more arms twine around me, until I’m surrounded by the people I love. Minutes later, they release me and sit back. Remi strokes my hair. “It’s no wonder you don’t want to be mated to Benham.” I don’t want to be mated to anyone. “As someone who has spent the most time around the Tavikhi,” Sage speaks up. “I can tell you that Benham would never—none of them would—hurt you. I’m not saying you have to agree to the mating. I just thought it might ease your mind a little that, no matter what your decision is, you’re safe.” I almost laugh. While I appreciate what she’s trying to say, we haven’t been safe since we landed on this planet. “Nobody has to make any decisions tonight,” London says with the confidence she’s gaining in her position within the village of Shefira. “Everyone can try to get a good night’s sleep and things will look bet—different in the morning.” At least she’s not trying to pretend that everything is going to be better."

Seeing the relationship develop from this place where Maeve is so vulnerable and afraid of being mated to Benham to where they're able to build trust and eventually love really warmed my heart. 5/5 Stars.

4.5 stars. Maeve, the female human lead, was in an abusive relationship on Earth and is only alive because a friend smuggled her out under an assumed name. Constantly anxious and afraid, even though her abuser is literally on another planet, she’s hoping that she doesn’t have an alien mate because she’s sure she couldn’t engage in her sorts of intimacy he would want.

Benham, the male alien lead, is the blacksmith for his clan, and large even by his people’s standards. The new “humans” are tiny to him and he has no interest in any of them. Then Maeve bumps into him as he exits a tent and his mate markings appear. Seeing her fear, he assures her he has no expectations of her and leaves her be. But the bond draws them near each other and Benham’s patience and kindness slowly helps Maeve overcome her fears…

This story is dual POV, well written, and an empathetic, recovering from abuse, sci fi romance. I LOVED Benham’s compassion and consideration of Maeve’s fears and concerns. I empathised with Maeve and enjoyed her journey from trembling fear to functioning human being capable of entering a relationship. I appreciated the care and support that Maeve’s friends provided her and the way they encouraged her to make choices for herself. I enjoyed the slowly budding relationship and the care with which Benham allowed Maeve to approach this aspect of their relationship. I appreciated the explorative nature of their intimate relationship, given Maeve’s previous experience and Benham’s lack of experience and, though I found their progress laughably extraordinary, I enjoyed seeing the relationship stabilise. The epilogue is the set up for the next story so, if you don’t like cliffhangers, you can give that a miss without losing anything from this story.

I received a complimentary copy from the author and this is my voluntary honest review.

This series is driving me nuts because it's just good and easy reading enough that I keep reading but it has so so many unanswered questions and super corny language and random plot points.

Like there are mating ceremonies? Interesting this has never come up before and doesn't come up after it's mentioned strictly because of the ceremony outfit that's passed down.

No like "oh, there's a ceremony? What is it? Do you think the others will have one? What do you do at it?"

He says his parents had a private one which leads you to assume they are usually public and yet we are on 4 mated pairs and no one has mention one...

Not sure if this author is religious or just really into "safe" reads or whatever but the preoccupation with all these 25-40 year olds being virgins is weird.
The heroine actual is annoyed she isn't a virgin to offer herself to her mate. Like, you've had sex with one guy who assaulted you and you're in your mid to late twenties and being a virgin wouldn't be a norm? Did earth like dramatically change?

There's no same sex pairings on this planet, this is made clear talking about who they can mate with and who the children will have in terms of dating pool and it being someone of the same gender isn't mention as on the table.

The sex is really average for alien romance, and the "mating nodes" which are nodules on their cock that open to have hairs inside the secrete "mating fluid" I'm sorry does not sounds sexy. Kind of freaks me out, actually. I don't want hairs in my vag.

Anyhoo, i liked this MMC quite a bit and while the FMC wasn't my fav it was a cute second chance type of relationship. There's no other plot besides this relationship and her overcoming her trauma so it does seem to happen pretty fast.

The 3rd book in this Warriors of Tavikh series centered around a village of Tavikh aliens and a group of humans who have come from Earth to escape their past / looking for a new future.

Benham is the clan's blacksmith, even in comparison to the others in the village he is big built and stocky. He is one of the older members of his village and stopped thinking about himself being mated a long time ago. He has many scars, a large one on his face which gives him a menacing appearance, but he wears his scars with pride proving the obstacles he has overcome.

Maeve was abused on Earth and is only alive due to a friend smuggling her on the ship giving a false name. She is anxious and nervous all the time, always on the lookout for her ex, even though she is on a different planet. She stays well away from the Tavikh aliens knowing she would have nothing to offer a mate, not being able to have a relationship.

Things of course don't go their way, when Maeve accidentally bumps into Benham outside a tent and his mating marks suddenly appear on his arms..... Maeve is obviously petrified of the thought of being his mate, and Benham sees her fear and knows that he is going to get rejected.

I loved the way Benham handled himself, needing to prove to Maeve that she could trust him no matter what - he was so considerate and caring of Maeve and her feelings! Maeve's new friends were also there offering support any way they could. A slow burn build up while they learnt about each other and tested the waters. Looking forward to the next book in this series.

I have been enjoying this series and with Fated to the Alien Grump the love affair continues.
MFC Maeve boarded the Exodus Voyager spaceship under an assumed identity, living the two month voyage to Tavikh in fear of discovery. When the reader learns her history later in the story they will understand why.
After the ship landed on Tavikh it came under attack from a hostile tribe of Krijese, with the Tavikhi coming to the humans rescue. Maeve along with a few other humans decided to join their Tavikhi rescuers at their village Instead of remaining at the human settlement.
Determined NOT to become mate to one of the warriors like some of her friends, Maeve keeps a low profile as much as possible. Until the day she accidentally bumps into MMC Benham and his markings light up. Known amongst the human females as a grump Maeve has no desire to become his mate.
If Benham wants his keeshla it is definitely going to take some patience to earn her trust, and as it turns out he is the sweetest most understanding warrior under that gruff exterior.
With nice writing, likable characters this was another good story. Can’t wait for the next!.

This was another great addition to this series. I really love how different all of Erin's characters are. Each of them are slightly damaged, but in their own unique way which makes each story really great to read. Maeve and Benham are both more than happy to go with out mates. Benham feels he's too set in his ways, grumpy and surly. Maeve has some serious trust issues with men, and a lot of anxiety and fear from past trauma. When Maeve sets off his mating marks, it's her worst nightmare come true. Benham knows one thing for sure now that his mating marks have shown...Maeve is terrified of him. But he's a warrior through and through, and now that he's been blessed with a mate, he'll do everything he can to prove himself worthy of her and her love.

I absolutely loved Benham. He might actually be my favorite Tavikh warrior yet. He's so grumpy and surly, but with Maeve he's a giant, purple cinnamon roll with an extra gooey center. I loved, loved, loved how patient he was with her, and how he let her control the pace of things. Their walks were absolutely adorable, and the ways he tried to take care of her without pushing her boundaries was so heartwarming. The spice was absolutely well done, especially for this story. I really enjoyed everything about this sci-fi read!

Another Erin Hale alien romance, and another day where I didn’t get as much sleep as I should because I couldn’t put it down. I loved these warriors so much, I adore reading about each of them finding their fated mates. The human women in this series aren’t just surviving in an alien world, they start thriving, and I am here for it. This one was definitely a slow burn due to a backstory, but it definitely has some spice in it! I can’t wait for the next one!

Maeve hasn’t always been her name. It’s the one she took when she fled earth. It was either that or be unalive. She has found a group of women who are her chosen sisters, and who look out for her. She tries to make herself invisible, and her tribe sisters protect her. That works until the biggest, grumpiest alien in the tribe runs into her coming out of a tent and his mating marks fill in. Oh no. No no no. She can’t be mated to anyone, much less the scariest alien here. Is there a way to say no thank you to being a fated mate?

Thank you to Literally Yours PR for the copy, all thoughts are my own.

Gentle healing and love

I loved Maeve and Benham’s sweet, alien-human, fated mates, healing romance. This story had a wonderful mix of humor, heartwarming love, real life issues, painful pasts, and spice. Maeve is a human who escaped an abusive relationship on earth by leaving on a ship with settlers for the planet Tavikhi. Despite escaping the abuser, her painful past makes her afraid all the time. Benham is a large and scarred Tavikhi warrior and the tribe’s blacksmith. He is a solitary and quiet male with his own painful past. Maeve never wants to touch a Tavikhi warrior as she fears she will trigger his mating marks. Unfortunately, one night she stumbles against Benham and does exactly that. To get to their HEA there will be baggage unpacking, trust giving, truth telling, and leaps of faith. I loved the way Benham gently, lovingly, and beautifully helped Maeve come out of her traumatic prison and begin to trust. This well written story included engaging dialogue, characters with dimension, good world building, and an interesting storyline. I am really enjoying this series. 4.5 stars.

Fated to the Alien Grump

These two characters are super sweet. The MMC is grumpy but it's because he's way introverted and he's had trauma. They are both very quiet people and have lost their parents. She's got the added trauma of abuse.

I really appreciated how the MMC made himself be what she needed. He automatically realizes that he should ask for consent for every step of their relationship. Being very familiar with how abuse works, I might have liked a couple more scenes that convince her he is exactly as honorable as he seems. And maybe some more specific thought processes on her part that show us she learns to trust herself. Sometimes I think the most long lasting effect of abuse is the difficulty in trusting one's own judgment of people. Over time, day after day.

There's a simplicity and peace to these two characters. I like this line for it's simple imagery,

“My life was dull before you arrived. Now, it is filled with the most beautiful colors and you are directly at their center.”

Maeve is trying to board a ship to the planet Tavikh. She has been helping with gathering the the fruit and learning about them. She avoids the males because they scare her. Then while she's helping in the medical tent she accidentally touches a male. And he starts to glow.
Benham is the weapons master and keeps to himself. It's better that way than to allow someone to enter his heart only to leave. Then he accidentally touches a human female and his mating marks glow.
Maeve is scared of him because he is so big, the biggest in the village. To be honest she is fearful of just about everything. What is amazing is that she asks him if he'd like to walk with her. That is a first. Will she be able to get past what the human male did to her on earth to accept the warrior who will protect her and care for her?
A beautiful addition to this series!.

there is not a single book from this series so far that I have not absolutely adored. I thought Remi and Zydon were my favorites but they do not come CLOSE to Maeve and Benham. I finish every book wishing we were given 100 more pages to read and I think I'll continue to do so until the series comes to its end.

While I love grumpy x sunshine (more than a normal person should) nothing will ever EVER top grumpy x shy. NOTHING. It hit so well in this book i never wanted it to end.

Something I also very much enjoyed about this one is how it wasn't necessarily focused on a running plot through the series or a short one created for the book specifically, rather, the book was instead focused on the couples relationship and coming to love and care for each other in the way they need - which I think is a perfect book to throw into the middle of an alien romance series. This series so far has been so unique and fun to read, I already cant wait for the next book

Maeve (h), a human woman escaping an abusive past, hopes to find refuge and a new start on the alien planet Tavikh. Despite her best efforts to remain unnoticed, she accidentally activates the mating mark of Benham (H), the village's grumpy Tavikhi warrior blacksmith. This connection terrifies Maeve, given her history with abusive men, but Benham's patient and gentle nature helps her slowly overcome her fears. As Maeve navigates her new life on Tavikh, she must confront her trauma while learning about the alien culture and her place within it. Benham, who had no interest in finding a mate, is drawn to Maeve and is willing to take things at her pace. Their relationship evolves gradually, emphasizing trust, respect, and emotional healing. Together, they face the dangers of Tavikh and hostile alien species, deepening their bond through shared struggles.

I really loved this book. Great world building and wonderful characters. I loved both Benham and Maeve. It was a slow burn as these two took a while to interact with each other. Benham was very sweet and patient with Maeve- which was what she needed after her trauma. Above all things he wanted her to be comfortable and do things because she herself wants to, not because she feels she should. I really liked Maeve from the start. In the beginning, despite what she was feeling as she boarded the ship, she still took the time to comfort a little girl who was worried that she might not like the planet they were going to or make friends. She tries to be less frightened and more comfortable with people and the new environment, but it's a work in progress. I'm really enjoyed this series and can't wait until the next one. 5 stars.

“Fated to the Alien Grump” is the third book in Erin Hale’s sci-fi romance series, Warriors of Tavikh. This was Benham and Maeve’s story, and I have to say it’s my favorite of the series so far!

I thought Hale’s writing in this book was especially spectacular because of the way she portrayed Maeve’s trauma. Maeve has been through a lot, and she has reasons for being terrified of a mate bond.

Yes, Benham has his own trauma, but the difference is that his scars are visible on the outside. What I loved about this book was that Benham didn’t try to make Maeve do things she was uncomfortable with, and he didn’t force her into anything.

Maeve was able to get to know Benham at her own pace, and he did his best to make her feel safe with him and to show her that he would never hurt her. I loved their dynamic, and no spoilers, but I was really happy with the way their story ended.

Having never read an Erin Hale book before, I went in blind but the blurb sounded interesting and was I ever in for a treat. I was immidiately immersed in the alien universe of Tavikh (despite not having read the 2 first books) and the fated mates story of Maeve and Benham. I salute the author for dealing with the difficult subjects of severe spousal abuse (in a previous relationship) in a very real and respectful way while still weaving a tale of love and how it can overcome anything.
Well written, well thought out and definitely nailbitingly exciting and good. Though part of a series it is a complete standalone with a HEA.
Can't wait to read the rest of this series.

I tried y’all. I really tried with this series, but it just doesn’t get good at all. I mean, the writing is not bad. It’s just not that great either. Every single book is basically a carbon copy of the previous just with different names and background stories.
This one was just also very unbelievable being that the main female character had a past with sexual assault and abuse. Yet she’ll jump the guy’s bones within a month of knowing him.
I am fully aware that everybody handles trauma differently, but this just seemed very unbelievable because the female kept saying how traumatized she was and that she couldn’t deal with any touch..
I don’t know. I just couldn’t get into it because of that. And I’m definitely not gonna finish the series.

4/5

I genuinely really liked this book, it was a good mix of soft spoken and understanding past trauma. Maeve is a shell of a woman when we first meet her in book 1. But she’s grown a little in terms of having sisters (found family) and finding an occupation she enjoys doing.

Benham is a grumpy warrior who is more of a marshmallow. He gives off a gruff exterior but in this book we learn he’s haunted by the loss of family. He’s a very patient teacher and we find he’s a very tolerant mate to Maeve.

They are definitely what one another needed. My only gripe is that is felt way too fast too soon but the book is only 250-300 pages. And I did feel at times the communication was not there between them.

Fated to the Alien Grump by Erin Hale is the third book in her Warriors of the Tavikh series. It is a sci-fi fated mates romance with a HEA. While I loved the first two in the series, I think this might be my new favorite. It is definitely a character driven story, so we get a lot more of both Maeve and Benham’s back stories. Maeve has a painful history prior to coming to Tavikh, but the support and love she receives from her friends was beautiful to read and is only (slightly) eclipsed by Benham’s kindness and compassion for Maeve. The characters are likeable, the romance builds slowly, but ignites toward the end, and the world building is creative!

What a lovely read.i enjoyed the fact there is no abduction or violence in this book. Earth people go willingly to Tavikh an alien planet. Mauve is running from an abusive boyfriend and ends up being Benham's mate. It takes her a bit to trust. But with time he gives her space and let's her take the lead in what she wants to happen. All the women in this story have their own stories from their time on earth. This is my first book by Erin she is a wonderful author. I highly recommend this book. You won't want to put it down once you start reading. I look forward to reading more of her books. Happy reading everyone
