"The novel focuses on the romance and doesn't bog down the plot with details of Jack's long life. There are welcome flashbacks to his youth and family, but Jack's first-person narrative doesn't expound on his immortality--even he doesn't understand it. He's definitely not a vampire, and gradual revelations from Artagan, including Leah's dreams, make for riveting turns. Despite the protagonists-in-peril thread, the book shines brightest as a romance, and Printy's luscious descriptions are on point ... The hero-heroine couple ignites an absorbing plot, with an ending that promises more to come." -- Kirkus Reviews"Ms. Printy has a unique twist to the beginnings of a new series, and leaves the reader impatiently wanting the next book!" - InD'Tale Magazine"Well told, well written, mysterious, romantic...magnetic." - Tome Tender"Take the advice of this instant fan girl. Synopsis

Jack has lived a long time, after realizing that he was immortal at a young age. Although well over 100 years have passed, he still mourns his lost love who died suddenly, Lydia. Jack can only spend so much time in one place before people will become suspicious of a man who looks twenty years old for extended years, without aging a single day. When he intervenes in a robbery and is supposedly fatally shot, he must move to another location, and he chooses Portland, Maine.

One day, he encounters a young woman who is the spitting image of his lost love, an art student named Leah. Jack is drawn to her, and determined to find out why when he looks into her green eyes, he sees Lydia's soul. He also meets a strange man with sparkling sapphire eyes who may have the answer to why he can't die. But exploring a connection to this man will bring danger into the lives of Jack and the young woman who he seems fated to love eternally.

Review

My Soul Immortal has a very intriguing premise, one of immortality and its gifts and curses. Jack is a sympathetic lead. His mix of heartbroken angst, loneliness and a long-held sense of honor, plus his fascinating gift of immortality encourages the reader to dive deeper into his story. The writing is competent and error-free. However, the story failed to grab me on a deeper level. The emotions felt blunted, particularly in the action and suspense scenes, due to a lack of tension and dramatic impact. While Jack has clearly suffered a lot in his life, the writer didn't make me feel it. Additionally, the secondary characters aren't that charismatic, particularly Leah. While the villain should be deeply disturbing and fear-inspiring, I never got to that level with this person. The ending was well-done, however some aspects as the story progressed were a bit predictable.

Overall, My Soul Immortal has an appealing storyline, with a hero that many readers will like and root for. Readers who find the concept of fated lovers irresistible will enjoy the romance angle. Because this series has a lot of potential, I hope that later volumes have the dramatic impact that this story really needs.

I loved it!! Every aspect. It's exciting, romantic, the plot is riveting and will always lead you to want more, and wonder what's going to happen, how the current situation is possible...it's just so good!

Jen Printy is an amazing author. This is the first book Ive read from her. I'm not talking about the plot either, (though that was awesome); I'm talking about her writing. She has a way of writing that sucks the readers right in. When it comes to her descriptions, there's none of that "telling." It's all "showing." Besides the plot, I was immediately drawn in by word one just from her writing style.

Sadly, the book ends on a cliffhanger. (Damn epilogue!) I really want book two!

Jack tries to do the right thing and stop a robbery but when he is shot he needs to leave town yet again. During the robbery Jack was shot and since he is immortal those wounds will heal very quickly and give away his secret so again he finds himself moving and starting over.

After heading across the country and beginning to settle in a new town again Jack meets Leah Winters who bares a striking resemblance to the love of Jacks life, Lydia, who died years before. Jack finds himself drawn to Leah, wondering at first if she is even real the resemblance is so shocking.

My Soul Immortal is one of those reads that I just couldn't find myself getting engaged into the book at all. It started off with such a bang with the robbery scene but after that it just really seemed to slow down for me. It's not a bad read at all, just really never grabbed me personally.

I think this is a case of something being a bit too much angst for my taste as the first half is all about the lost love and new woman looking like her. I knew from the synopsis that there would be more to it but it just took a bit long getting there that it lost my interest by the time we get further into the story.

Overall, 2.5 stars, a bit too slow overall for my taste focusing more on the relationship too long and not expanding the whole immortal portion sooner.

It's been a while since I've read a good paranormal romance story. In fact, I tend not to read them lately, with the excepcion of Richelle Mead and Cassandra Clare. I decided to read it anyway, because the blurb caught my interest and I liked the book trailer. Thankfully, I wasn't dissapointed in this story.
The fact that was the most appeling to me, was that the story was told from Jack's POV. Having a main male character in this genre is rare and I found it quite refreshing. Romance storyline wasn't boring - not something unique, but still entertaining. The ending makes me want to read the next installment definitely, so I'll look forward to to sequel!

Jack Hammond's immortality is exposed when someone shoots him. It is only when he escapes with a bullet stuck in his back that he lands in Portland, Maine and stumbles upon a woman who reminds him of his girlfriend Lydia who has been haunting his memories for an awful long time. Will their fated love survive or is it doomed to fail? Read on and find out for yourself.

This was a pretty good paranormal romance that I have decided would work great as a stand-alone novel. If you like stories about love, being immortal, and the mythology of death then definitely check this book out for yourself. It is available on Amazon and wherever ebooks are sold online.

This will be a tough one for me. The blurb sounded fantastic, and I looked forward to reading this book. It was really good at the beginning, but then it just dragged on and on, and now that I’m finished I have to say I expected so much more. It’s not about the writing. The writing is excellent, almost perfect – the editors at RAP did their job well. It’s the plot that didn’t grab me until the last few pages. When you are on page 266 of a 310-page MS and it starts getting a bit more interesting, you know it’s too late and you should have laid this book aside and got on to something different.

The plot is not complicated. Jack is an immortal and heals very fast. He stopped aging around twenty and is now a hundred and seventy years old. All these years he hasn’t been able to get over the loss of Lydia who he loved passionately. Unfortunately, it was hard to relate to that since I knew nothing about Lydia, but I believed the author and didn’t let it bother me much.

He moves to Portland and meets Leah who is so much like Lydia he can’t stop thinking about her. How can she be so similar to the Lydia he loved? There’s a man who can answer this question, but he may be too dangerous. No spoilers from here.

What I enjoyed about the book is the interaction between the characters: Jack and Ed (I don’t understand why he had to die), Leah and Grady, Jack and Leah. But the action was not that exciting, except for the final part where a lot of things happen. It’d be perfectly okay as a stand-alone, but the author added an epilogue which asks for a sequel. Maybe there'll be more action there. I'd recommend My Soul Immortal to lovers of romantic fiction.

Actual rating: 3.25 stars.

**This review is for a DNF**

I read the premise of this book and it sounded interesting and it also looked like the start of a new series and I love books in a series...more time to get in depth in the world and characters. But I just couldn't get into this book at all.

Leah, the heroine, seemed completely fine but unremarkable. She works at a coffee shop and she seems to feel some kind of attraction to the hero. It started to look like Leah was some kind of distant relative of the woman Jack, the hero, has never been able to get over. That, of course, could have changed after I quit but I don't actually know for sure. But as far as I read, I didn't find Leah very interesting at all.

Jack, the hero, didn't really know what he was or why he was immortal at the start of the book and all the way until I quit the book. It's one thing to be unsure but it felt like he had absolutely no idea. Other than not being able to die, Jack didn't have any special power or particular skill that I was aware of. He's just some guy, trudging through a mundane, tireless existence with no purpose. He was still obsessing over a woman from over a hundred years ago who I'm pretty sure was supposed to be marrying Jack's brother. I didn't get far enough into the story to get the details on how all that came about but to be brutally honest, I just didn't care.

I felt like the writing was the strongest part of this book. It was perfectly good writing but in no way did I feel any connection with the characters. A guy who isn't really living much of a life isn't any fun to read and by 25% into the book, the heroine had barely been introduced. I just couldn't muster up any excitement to continue reading this book. I guess it just wasn't for me.

3.5★

I enjoyed this book.  I wasn’t sure in the beginning I would. It started out a bit slow and the back and forth was a bit much in the beginning. But I really ended up enjoying it and had a hard time putting the book down. The Mystery to what Jack is kept me glued to the page… the same with Leah…. It was clear early on that there is something more to her, but not what.

The book really picks up after the first 30 pages and the pace increases to a steady and enjoyable pace.  I also really liked the concept of the story and liked that we learn along with Jack what was going on.

Some of the things happening were a bit too convenient for me to fit in the story but it really didn’t bother me all too much. The beginning also reminded me a bit f the Vampire Diaries (TV show) in the beginning with the whole doppelganger theme. But again not too much and it had enough of its own content to not bother me too much and be new and fresh.

Neither Jack, nor Leah were my favorite both had a semi annoying site to them, but overall I enjoyed them. Another thing that bothered me a bit was Grady and his flip-flopping attitude towards Jack. It just didn’t feel right and a bit forced like just to be there for the drama.

I absolutely loved Ed and his shop. But by far my favorite was Artagan and I really wanted more of him and I have high hope for that in the next book.

Overall I enjoyed it and ended up enjoying it more than I thought I would and after the cliffhanger I’m curious to see what happens next.

I rate it 3.5★

Who or what is Jack, a man who cannot die? Why is he immortal? As a man, he is caring, protective, alone and broken hearted. Over a century before, he lost his soul mate, the love of his life, but then along came this girl, Leah and she looks exactly like his long dead Lydia. There is much more than a physical likeness to his Lydia, there is something within Leah that recognizes Jack. They both harbor secrets that they finally have someone to share them with. Is Fate finally being kind to Jack or is this another cruel game to torment his eternal existence? A dark stranger hints to Jack that he has the answers he needs, but will they come at a price that is too high to pay? What would YOU give to keep a loved one safe from harm? What is Jack willing to do to save Leah’s life?

My Soul Immortal by Jen Printy is a beautiful tale of love, loss and second chances. Her world has a film of darkness over it that slowly fades as she weaves her tale of a man who has been living a long and lonely existence. Jack is an amazing hero, not super macho, just a wonderful person who has been dealt one bad hand after another in the eternal game of life. Leah is a breath of fresh air for Jack, full of life and open to what Jack tells her, because her heart already knows the truth. The dark stranger, Artagan has more sides to him than first meets the eye, and his story is one that makes a wonderful subplot to what happens. Ms. Printy actually paints each scene vividly with strokes of emotion, as well as dark action. Her style flows smoothly and will pull at your heart throughout. Well told, well written, mysterious, romantic…magnetic.

I want to start off saying that I am not a romance fan. When this came up for blog tour, something made me grab it up. It sounded like such a different storyline - and ended up completely surprising me.

Jack has been alive for over 100 years - and not aged physically a day. Not only that, but he heals very quickly and he has no idea why. He loved once - loved completely - and lost her. He has never gotten over this, but when he meets a random stranger, he not only feels things he hasn't felt in a long time - but part of him knows that this is his lost love.

What a fascinating story. It brings a whole new light to the idea of reincarnation and that one true love. It's a great story, mysterious, and it keeps you so interested in the story that you just can't put the book down. My first night reading, I was up til 3am still reading because I wanted to know what was going to happen next.

This is not my first Red Adept Publishing book and I'm not one of those people that really pay a lot of attention to who published the book, BUT I have not gone wrong with this company yet. They really know what they're doing when it comes to choosing books. I not only will read more books they publish, but I will also be finishing this series. Great job, Jen. :)

I fell in love with Jack and his 'unusual' plight. Then there is Artagan, the quintessential bad boy. The love story at the heart of this novel is timeless and the writer's style descriptive and captivating. I highly recommend this novel.

I haven’t read a whole lot of male leads lately, so I was really excited to read My Soul Immortal. Plus the synopsis was really intriguing.

My Soul Immortal has themes of love, loss and second chances. I absolutely love Jack as a main character. As a reader, I could feel his lonliness. I could feel his longing for death that never comes. He is a strong person, but a person can only take so much and has dealt with all of it over and over as the years go by.

I love the romance in this novel. Part of the reason I hesitate with romance is sometimes it can be cheesy or happen too quickly, but Jen Printy knows how to write romance.

The last thing I’d like to point out is just how beautiful Jen Printy’s writing style is. I can vividly imagine everything she puts down on paper. I’m a new fan! Check this one out!

I was immediately intrigued by the synopsis, and I couldn't wait to dive into this one. I had no trouble with the narrator, Jack. Sometimes, he came across as distant and a little cold, but it kind of fit his personality. He has immortality, and he's lived a long time. He's seen and done a lot of things in his life, and he doesn't really care about anything. He's just trying to blend in and figure out why he can't die. I really liked Jack. He was a little bitter about life, socially awkward because he tended to stay away from people, and just went through life without friendships or even one connection with someone else. But when he moved to a different city again, he actually formed relationships with people. And one in particular, who reminded him of a girl he'd loved and lost a long time ago.

I loved the unhurried buildup of Jack's and Leah's friendship, and then their romance. It was sweet and slow, but it was perfect for the two of them. Leah reminded Jack of a long lost love, but that didn't get in the way of their connection. I think it only made it richer, especially after finding out certain revelations.

I also adored the secondary characters. Leah's brother, Grady and Jack's boss, Ed. They added to an already rich story. I liked that, with all of them, Jack became more alive and he was actually happy. They made him a better person and showed him that life is worth all of it, even the bad.

The book took a turn that was not expected and completely surprised me, but in a good way. I've read plenty of stories about immortals, but nothing quite like this. I've honestly forgotten a *bit* about what happened, but I don't want to spoil anything anyway so I'm going to leave the plot open and just tell you that I really enjoyed this story-line. And let's just say that this guy, Artagan, is carrying around secrets that threaten Jack's entire existence and the life he's found in this town and with Leah.

The book's pace was fairly slow, so it took me a long time to finish. But I was honestly never bored and it had my attention all the way through. I think I would have liked a little more backstory on Jack, though, as he's lived a colorful life. However, I so enjoyed My Soul Immortal! And oh, I just went back and read the ending. Such a horrible cliffhanger! I really need the sequel like now. :)

Let me just say, I've had a phenomenal year of reading GREAT books! So with starting out this review I'm not quite sure how to say this.

Well, I'll start with the positives:

The plot: The whole storyline was super original. Not once have I happened upon a book with a similar storyline. So props there.
Setting: I loved the setting. When I found out this book takes place in Maine AND England I was super stoked! I'm not sure what it is but I just love stories set in Maine and England. Best combination ever!
The Protagonist is Immortal: I have a thing for books centering on Immortals or anything paranormal.
I loved how myths & legends were interwoven into the storyline. I must say, the author did a great job with this part. I really enjoyed learning about the history of Immortals and Soul-Immortals. This was probably the most interesting thing I took from the whole story.

Now on to what I didn't like:

The storyline moved too slow: While the plot was very original and intriguing, I got bored while reading. My interest didn't get piqued until around 39% in, but only lasted until about 45% then I got bored again. Once I was about 80% in the action picked up again.
Character development: I definitely felt like the characters were missing something. It's hard for me to explain but I felt disconnected from every character in the book, besides Leah. Near the very end there is a pretty big turning point and that's when Leah pulled me in. I was also able to connect with Artagan. I love seeing why a villain is just that, a villain. Near the last 10% we get to see a bit into his life. I'd actually like to read a book based in Artagan's POV.
Overall this could be an excellent story. I just wish I was able to connect more with the characters in this one and the pacing was a bit slow in the first half of the book. I don't think I'd recommend this one. But I would read this author's other books.

Thanks to Jen Printy and Red Adapt Publishing for giving me this book to review.

Jack is always moving from one place to another because he does not die or age. When Jack moves to Portland, he meets Leah, the spitting image of the girl he loved who died over a century ago. As Jack begins to obsess about Leah, he also starts to question his sanity. When he is approached by the mysterious Artagan who claims to have information about what Jack is. As Jack and Leah grow closer, Jack realises he is putting her life in danger and will do anything to protect her and her soul.

My Soul Immortal is an enjoyable YA paranormal romance, which is romantic, mysterious and reminds me a bit of the TV programme Forever. It is interesting to have a paranormal romance novel to have to POV from a man, however, it came across to me that Printy did not fully research Britain, for example, while I am not a fan of cricket, I am fairly sure that you don’t score in it and the fans don’t wear jerseys.

Jack grew on me during this book, as in the beginning I could not connect to him but as I got to know him better I found him interesting, protective and caring, however, I felt he acted more like the age he looked than the age he actually was. I liked Leah as she is nice and kind although I felt she was a bit too perfect. Although I felt that I could not trust Artagan he was the most interesting person in the book.

This book ends on a bit of a cliff hanger and I hope there is another book in this series. I recommend My Soul Immortal to fans of Grasping at Eternity by Karen Amanda Hooper.

My Soul Immortal is an urban fantasy about long-lost-love and second chances. It is told from Jack’s point-of-view, an immortal both cursed and gifted with eternal existence. Sadly, he’s lonely, and desperately missing his soulmate, Lydia – a woman who died decades ago.

“Every hero gets the girl, and every villain gets to die. I envy them all.”

When Jack meets a woman named Leah, he sees something familiar in her emerald-green eyes. Could it be possible that Leah is really Lydia, returned to him?

Soon, Leah’s life is in danger. Jack and Leah find themselves fighting for more than just love. Can Jack protect Leah’s soul?

Fans of soulmate-themed paranormal romance and urban fantasy will undoubtedly enjoy this tale that crosses folklore with reincarnation. Jack’s POV was not only surprising but refreshing; it’s a rarity to find a romance told strictly from the male’s pov.

Jen Printy’s descriptive writing is superb. The story unfolds in present-tense as if it’s happening in the moment. I prefer to read stories in this style.

The paperback has a beautiful matte finish and I loved the heart image that was used for the scene breaks (it’s on the cover, also). The gold lettering is super pretty too!

Recommended for fans of myths and legends.

I would like to thank the Author for a copy of My Soul Immortal!

Don't you just love it when you get a book that is completely different from anything you have read before? I know I do, which is why I thoroughly enjoyed this story by Jen Printy. She has set up a world completely different from anything I have read before, with not a vampire or werewolf in sight. Instead, it is a whole new world, most of which you learn from Jack's point of view. This, as well, makes a nice change, to read it mainly from the male's perspective.

The writing and editing were fantastic and I didn't spot any errors in here at all. There is a lot that goes on, from how we first meet Jack, to his moving to Portland, to meeting Leah and so on. That being said, I did feel that certain parts of the book could have done with being tightened up somehow. It just felt a bit 'slow' in places, which is not a bad thing!

For a fresh and new story with excellent world-building and characters, then I can definitely recommend this book. I am looking forward to reading more in this series, as I certainly want to know how the new trainee copes!!

***3.5 STARS ***

This book took a different form of paranormal. Jack is immortal. He has been alive for 170 years. The question is how he became immortal? He can't die, but doesn't know how he came to be that way.

He has lived a life of moving from one place to another. He stopped aging at 20. He tries to have as normal of a life as possible, working odd jobs and keeping a low profile.

He expected to life as he knew it to continue when he moved to Portland, Maine. Instead he found a beautiful woman who looked a lot like his deceased fiancee. From that moment, his questions become more intense. He wants and needs answers. It's not his immortality he's concerned about, it's her mortality.

This book was interesting. I enjoyed the different form of paranormal. Jack is a great character, but I didn't grow attached to the story or the characters. It is a good book. I enjoyed the writing and the plot.

This book has swearing and innuendo.

I am sorry to say but I have never heard about Jen Printy but this book has rectified that oversight very quickly. I will now look for her books wherever I go. This was an amazing book to read and had me with a typical readers dilemma, I wanted to read faster to find out what was going to happen but I also didn't want the book to end. I loved the characters in the book as well as Jen's writing style, she has the ability to suck you into the book and the lives of the characters. Fantasy is my all time favourite genre and this book did not disappoint.

My Soul Immortalis a story about Jack Hammond, an immortal trapped in the nightmares of his past. He carried the guilt on the death of his father and Lydia, the love of his life. After a night that could possibly reveal his true nature forced him to move to another place. And there he met Leah, a dead-ringer to his Lydia, and Taragan, a man who might just be like him, and holds the key to all his questions.
Believing himself to be damned, he tries to stay away from Leah, but their attraction can't be denied. As more mysteries are revealed, the more danger dangerous it becomes for Jack and Leah. Will they finally find eternal love or will Jack face his fate that's worse than death?
As a romance book, I was surprised that the story was told in Jack's POV. It was a refreshing change from the usual heroine's POV. But sadly, it still felt like it was on a girl's POV. I had a hard time liking Jack's character at first. He was depressing, whiny, and weak. Leah's character was even stronger than his. It was a good thing he redeemed himself towards the end.
The first few chapters of the book were good. It was interesting and I wanted to read more to find out the secrets of Jack's immortality. Unfortunately I got bored in the middle chapters. It felt like a lot of fillers were added just to make the book longer. The romance was bland and I didn't feel the spark or chemistry between Jack and Leah. I figured this isn't just about romance but still, I wanted more. There was one time that I thought about not finishing this book but I decided to continue anyway. I'm glad I did because the last chapters were great. It was exciting and I'm just so happy that Jack finally decided to be man enough. I loved the ending and the author has given enough teaser for me to look forward to the next book. Yup, I would definitely read the next book.
I give My Soul Immortal 3.5 stars. It was a good book, I was entertained in some parts but I got bored in some. The book holds a lot of promise and I can feel that the series will just get better with the next book. I want to recommend this to readers who want a paranormal story that isn't heavy on romance. I also want to recommend this to male readers who reads YA paranormal.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

My Soul Immortal is the story of a man named Jack, who was born with eternal life. The novel is told from Jack's POV, and I absolutely loved being inside his tortured mind. He lost the love of his life, Lydia, over a century ago and lives every day with a broken heart that longs to be reunited with his soul mate. Jen Printy paints a vivid picture of his depression that made me empathize with Jack's 'curse'. He has terrible flash-backs that force him to re-live the life and love he once shared with Lydia that has haunted him for over one hundred years. He doesn't believe he will ever know happiness as long as he remains on earth.

After moving to a new city, Jack runs into a girl on the street who bears a striking resemblance to Lydia. He cannot stop thinking about her and the idea that she could somehow be connected to his long lost love. When he finally sees the girl, Leah, again, he ends up spending time with her and her brother and learning that she is a descendant of Lydia's. Jack thinks this explains their resemblance until he goes to Leah's art show and discovers that she has been painting pictures of him and his life with Lydia well before they ever met.

Jack turns to another immortal, Artagan, to seek answers about him and Leah. What he finds out is incredible. I was very pleased with the twist in this book! I was already enjoying this novel and then, BAM! I get pulled deeper and deeper. After the twist, Jack and Leah work through it and become closer as the story goes on.

" Yes, I loved Lydia Ashford, but a lot has happened to me since then. It changed me. I'm a far different man than I was then. The man sitting before you is in love with someone else."

Conflicts arise through the last half of the book that have Jack and Leah both fighting for their love and lives. Overall, this novel was a captivating page turner with likable characters and a swoon-worthy romance.

"Driven by a need to see her emerald eyes, I push away, take her chin in my hand, and tug her face upward. I wipe away the tears with my fingertips. "Don't cry, love. Everything's going to be alright," I whisper."

I was satisfied with the ending and then the epilogue had me screaming MORE, MORE, MORE!

*Book source ~ A review copy was provided in exchange for an honest review.

Jack Hammond has been around for 170 years. He can’t die. After his true love succumbed to an illness he tried many ways to end his existence and none of them worked. So, every few years he moves around to keep people from being suspicious of his 20-yr-old looking face. However, when a liquor store robbery in LA goes wrong, Jack is shot twice with fatal wounds. He knows he has to skedaddle or face questions he can’t afford to answer without the risk of ending up in a straight jacket or a test laboratory. Ending up in Portland, Maine turns out to be the best move he’s made in his long life though it doesn’t seem so at the time. Who the hell is the mysterious stranger who calls himself Artagan and seems to know all about Jack? Also, running into his long lost love’s doppelganger throws Jack for a loop and he doesn’t know if he’s coming or going. Should he stay away from Leah Winters for his sanity’s sake or is it already too late? Jack has gone from a fairly monotonous life to one that is almost too exciting. Well, we know it won’t kill him. Or will it?

This is quite an interesting take on immortality. I was expecting a new trend on vampires or some kind of new fangled twist on Highlander, but this story goes in a much different direction than I was expecting and it revolves around Artagan.

I have to admit that in the beginning I thought Jack was a bit of a whiner baby. “Oh, my love died and I don’t want to go on without her, but I can’t die, so wtf? I guess I’ll just mope around for 170 years and do nothing with myself.” Ok, I get that it’s different, that Jack hates being an immortal. Not everyone wants to live forever. But 170 years of that crap? Come on, Jack! Pull up your big boy jockeys and do some interesting shit. But don’t worry, dear readers! He does after he meets the mysterious Artagan and Leah, the spitting image of his love Lydia. *That’s* when things get interesting! There is resolution to this story, but the gauntlet for the next book is definitely thrown down. I’m looking forward to seeing where this series is headed!

*ACTUAL RATING: 3.5 STARS*

I sped through this book fairly quickly because it is a very fast paced novel that one could read and finish on a cozy winter weekend. I really enjoyed this story and the entire aspect of the immortality that is discussed and how closely connected Jack and Leah really are. The entire story was full of mystery and intrigue until the very last page that left off on a cliff hanger, leaving me wondering what was going to happen next. The narrative was told in a very proper way considering it was told in Jack’s POV, and he has been alive for over a hundred years, which really added to the uniqueness of the story overall. There wasn’t a dull moment to be found, and I was very invested in what was happening from Jack falling for Leah to them grasping for ways to stay together without enemies getting in their way.

I have hardly read any stories dealing with immortality, so reading this one really did entertain me from the fantastical plot line to the characters that really brought the story to life. The only thing that brushed me the wrong way was the fact that Jack and Leah fell in love with each other quicker than I could react, but, then again, they were interconnected by their pasts which made their romance blossom and grow faster than normal. I just wasn’t a giant fan of the insta-love that sometimes took me off guard when they began to confess their love for each other so rapidly into the story. Another aspect of the story that hit me in the face, was the action filled ending. The story climaxed without enough build up, in my opinion, and I had wished that the tension building was fleshed out more to really hook the reader and make them sit on the edge of their seat, waiting for the trouble to brew until it finally burst.

Other than that, this story was quick, entertaining, and full of fantasy elements and background that was well built and didn’t confuse me in anyway. It was a story that was easy to dive into and, I really did enjoy the journey it put me on along with Jack and Leah fighting their hardest to be together against all odds set in their way.
