A growing bond. A world that would see it destroyed.
Keeping Kyra in Alfhemir will endanger her life. If I had thought a future with her was possible, the norn’s shenanigans have wrecked that hope. I cannot let my burgeoning desires endanger my mate, and I refuse to let my world consume her.
So I ignore the budding ache spreading across the center of my chest. A half-blood king cannot afford weakness. Already I have made too many mistakes. Mistakes that have jeopardized my subjects and my kingdom. Mistakes I will gladly make again if means my mate reaches her Earth unharmed.
Yet, with each day that passes, I hunger for more than the physical. I hunger for her voice. Her laugh. The tenderness she bestows with her eyes. The quick wit she showers with a sassy flip of her brow.
I hunger for it all.
Publisher's Note: Fae King's Hunger is the second installment in the Court of Bones and Ash serial, an M/F steamy romance between one growly Fae king and his fated mate. All books in this series are meant to be read in order. But beware, cliffhangers abound. If vertical drops make you dizzy, it may be best to wait until the series is complete.
Layla Harper loves all things mythical, including arrogant dragons and the furry beasts who rule her cave. She (and her minions) live in lovely New England where she spends her time tackling domestic trials while dreaming up her next swashbuckling adventure.
I don't know what it is about this series but I just really love everything about these books! The writing style, the pacing, the story are all so good. I just want more of whatever the author has in store for the future.
Kyra is a headstrong woman but she recognizes that she's out of her element and that she's essentially the weakest link in multiple ways (even a few that she doesn't know about yet). I like that she asks questions and takes the answers to heart. She's pushy enough that it feels like a natural human reaction.
Rogar is a big softy when it comes to Kyra and I love it! He's never pushy or condescending towards her. He respects and treasure's her in more ways than she even knows. Though I do wish he would tell her about their actual situation. He's been meaning to during this novel but they were never in a safe enough place for it to happen. Their chemistry is fantastic throughout these novels and it's only getting better.
I thought this book would go in another direction entirely with the way the last book ended, but I was happily surprised with how it actually continued. It's a twist I didn't see coming and I enjoyed it immensely! For those who can't stand a cliffhanger this time around, the story seemed to end at a natural stopping point. I'm still very much excited for the next book in the series!
My Favorite Quotes:
"Sometimes life cuts you off at the knees, exposing the ugly truths you work so hard to hide."
"You're one person. There's only so much you can control."
"You make me want things I've run from my whole life."
Another installment in this series that I really enjoyed. This author's writing just sucks me in and the world is described so well that I have no problem imagining myself in it. Love it. It kind of feels like this meandering journey type of story, but it's really not as there is action happening. It's the perfect balance (in my opinion) of plot and character. The romance is all angsty and pining and I'm loving it!
I'm really looking forward to continuing on to find out what happens.
>Book Review – Fae King’s Hunger >I am an independent reviewer. This book is the 2nd in the Court of Bones and Ash and ends in a cliffhanger. Rogar is to the point where he cannot fight the mate bond any longer. He is heartbroken knowing that Kyra wants to return to Earth. Kyra is starting to wonder whether she really wants to return or not. Their relationship is deep, but Kyra doesn’t know about the mate bond though. >A new character, Rowena the witch, is introduced. Her illusions are interesting and really keep the characters and the reader hopping. There are a lot of attacks and a quest to gather ingredients to make a potion to disguise the human scent of Kyra. I didn’t understand why Roger couldn’t just keep peeing on her, though. >This book is appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving this story 5 stars. I love how sweet and helpful Kyra is, even in the face of prejudice. Roger is the most possessive and alpha male character I’ve read in a long time. This story is addicting.
I really enjoy the story line. Loved the first book. The 2nd did not disappoint. However these short stories with cliffhangers are very annoying. Just when you get into the story and characters it just “stops”. Now they expect you to wait god only knows how long for the continuation. Very annoying. By the time the next book comes out u have to reread the previous stories just to get back into the feel of the story and characters. What ever happened to writing a full and complete novel ? For example: kresley cole, gena showalter....... They write a full novel about the main character then proceed with another novel (same theme and world ) but with characters you come to know and love previously I’d love to read a full book about Gauron, Roweena, princess Daenestra, Ilearis etc. who wouldn’t.
Omg I'm loving this series. Rogar & Myra have my heart and this author has an amazing way of writing this story that keeps you on the edge of your seat with swords a swinging.
As Rogar, Myra & their friends continue their journey they encounter more struggles & new alliances. As with the first book I was hooked on every page. The battles kept me on the edge yelling and gasping. Roger & Myra get emotionally closer. I love how they are slowly falling in love. Their relationship is written in a way that's perfect and believable. Not to mention its perfectly steamy *sigh*
My only complaint about this series is that they are too short. Lol. But I definitely want to read the next installment! I can't wait to see what happens next! This author is now added to my top favorite authors. Yes, her writing style is THAT GOOD!
Fae King’s Hunger is a steamy fantasy romance that plunges readers into a richly imagined fae world filled with passion, danger, and fated mates. Layla Harper delivers a fast-paced story with high-stakes tension and irresistible chemistry between the Fae King and his human counterpart. The worldbuilding is lush without being overwhelming, and the emotional connection between the characters adds depth beyond the heat.
Perfect for fans of possessive fae males, magical realms, and slow-burn (but scorching) tension, this book hits all the right notes for a guilty-pleasure escape. While some elements follow familiar tropes, Harper’s engaging voice and vivid descriptions make it a satisfying, bingeable read.
This is the second instalment in this series, and I'm loving it so far! Kyra is still in the fae realm facing a number of different dangerous situations. Still trying to hide from the Wild Hunt , which is the high queen’s guard comprised of many fae lured by the queen’s magic to hunt those humans who breach the veil between Alfhemir and Earth. Rogar and kyra's bond grows and they find it increasingly difficult to stay away from each other...even though Kyra still does not know they are each others fated mate. All the books in this series so far do end on cliffhangers! Quick but good read !
I'm loving this series. I've gotten a little confused from time to time with the different factions and political machinations, but that's just my reading style. I tend to skim through areas of dialogue and then have to go back and re-read. The overall storyline is great and the relationships and chemistry between the main characters is well-written. Lots of hot fae, good battle scenes and romance. I'm ready for the next episode!
Wow! The twists and turns the writer takes in this book kept me on my toes. I can’t wait to see what happens next. Kyra is Rogar’s mate, his beloved, and she is starting to feel a true bond with him. I wish Rogar would be open with her about the mating bond. Give her the chance
I was sucked in to the 1st book, and this second one did not disappoint. The overall storyline is great, the relationships and chemistry between the characters is keeps you flipping the pages. I can not wait to read the next one, because like the first another cliffhanger which I just hate to no end.
I don't know, this story just dragged in this one-- you know, until the last 10 pages. Then there was a cliff hanger. I just don't see myself continuing this,
Kyra is starting to become the traditional female making stupid choices. It just frustrated me. Probably minority here, but there it is.
This story is progressing nicely. Our main characters are growing closer. New characters are introduced. And we get a better look at the history and how the realm is now functioning. And a new mystery comes to light. I can’t wait to see what happens next.
Rogar AGONIZES about the need to tell Kyra about the mate bond before activating it. Then activates it anyway. Later, there’s a super dramatic scene where he’s all like “I need to tell you something.” What is it? Not that!
Despite annoyances like the above, I still generally enjoyed reading this and will continue for now.
I really wished to see more between Roger and Kyra. I would not read part three of this series. The second book did not hold my attention like the first one.
I have now read two books back to back in this series and am now about to read the third. Usually I get bored and find a different series but this one has me hooked. It is that good.
I am captivated by this Author. This series is truly a adventure I will take again and again. I recommend this Author and series, you will not be disappointed. She captures your full attention from page one.
Are actually killing me. I have read these books continually, and I wish it was one big volume. Loving this series -has elements of all genres with great dialogue as well.
Hmmmm again another good one. These endings are killling me!!!! I was so into reading the story. Kyra is so funny at a times and then ….. cut. On to the next book. Please oh please let this be worth it 🙏
I enjoyed this more than the first book, I ate this book UP Rogar and Kyra’s chemistry together is just so good I love how Rogar came into terms with the fact that she is his mate will forever have a chokehold on me 😭

And deeper into the story we go! Again loved this book, already worrying about the series ending. Dual POV's, very character driven and fast paced writing.
WONDERFUL book and SERIES!!! who'd have thought Orcs could be IMAGINED to be so hott!!!! and romantic. The adventure never seems to end for this group and it's AMAZING!!!
The first book seemed a bit garbled, slow at excite and dumping lots of information all at once, but once you get past the first few chapters it was great!! This book was even better. The author genuinely gets better with every chapter that passes and allows you to enter a world of magic effortlessly.
