As vloggers become victims from their own ceaseless exposure, veteran FBI Agent Dirk King is forced to confront a phantom killer. Relying on his wits and decades of experience, Dirk faces a race against time where every second could mean life or death.
FROM THE SHADOWS (A Dirk King FBI Suspense Thriller—Book 2) is the second novel in a new series by mystery and suspense author Katie Rush. The series begins with FROM THE ASHES (Book 1).
A gripping and harrowing thriller featuring a brilliant yet haunted protagonist, the Dirk King series is an enthralling mystery packed with non-stop action, edge-of-your-seat suspense, stunning revelations, and a breakneck pace that will keep you flipping pages late into the night. Fans of Rachel Caine, Robert Dugoni, and Mary Burton are sure to fall in love.
I will not read another book by this author! Poorly developed characters, badly written, insulting reader far too often with the use of the word Shadow. Beyond any shadow of a doubt, if the author had an editor, he or she should be fired! This author is trying too hard to convince us that the lead FBI agent is filled with emotions at every twist and turn of this case. Ending it with a hint of who is to come is totally amusing and laughable to me. I do not recommend this book to anyone. Even when a free read!
This entire book could have been condensed into three chapters if the author removed the smell, taste and color of everything encountered in the story. It felt like a first foray into creative writing where the author was attempting to impress a night school teacher. I will avoid this author in the future.
This book is painfully overwritten. Everything is over described repeatedly, burying the story and killing any suspense. Every eye has determination, every jaw clenching, it is just too much.
I gave it two stars because it was filled with so many adjectives that it took away from the story. The storyline was good but wading through the descriptions of every minor thing was a waste of time. I skipped most of it and would not read this author again.
Another great story by an amazing author, but I had to mark it down due to the obvious lack of proof reading. E. g. calling him Dirk, King and Dirk King just stick to one. Also silly mistakes like saying they left the coffee shop, then in the next sentence they were finishing their coffee. Took away from the story.
This was a good story drug out by too many flowery descriptions. I found myself skipping much of those words without missing any of the story. Maybe the author felt a necessity to stretch out the length but it was not needed. The story was good and needed a lot less words.
I was looking at some other reviews and saw comments that the female character had multiple surnames. Adding insult to injury, the author also has 2 names. Kobo calls her both 'Katie Rush' and 'Laura Rise' but Goodreads only has the series as written by 'Katie Rush'.
First time reading Katie Rush and was rather disappointed. Plot and story was actually really good but the word salad (adjectives) really made the book annoying. Way to many.
