A really phenomenal collection of some of Roberts' best work. Sprinkled throughout the 320 page book is commentary from Roberts himself, in addition to the team at large. Reading about his process and the prompts or "must haves" for these covers is very interesting and turns this into much more than just an art book. Lots of the covers exemplify what is mentioned early on: Roberts has a great skill in packing detail into every corner of a piece.

Highly recommend it!

This lovely coffee table art book contains all the artwork created by Neil Roberts for the Horus Heresy series over from Horus Rising to the third volume of The End and the Death. The book also includes the cover of False Gods by Philip Sibbering, as well as a reimagining of the cover by Niel Roberts. All these artworks are reproduced very nicely, although some of the double page spreads have the unfortunate issue of obscuring detail in the page crease. A number of the pictures are accompanied by short pieces written by the Black Library staff (and sometimes Niel Roberts himself) explain some of the design process that went into the artwork, all of which are quite interesting. The only real problem I have with the book is that some of my own personal favourite pieces, such as the covers for Promethean Sun, The Seventh Serpent and Eye of Terror, don’t get anything written about them.
