Rate this book
For every legendary hero, there's a loyal best friend. When a Japanese gamer reincarnates into the body of Lord Werner, a faceless mob in the world of a video game, he sets out to make sure the hero Mazel is up to the task. He'll need to train him, teach him etiquette, and make sure his pockets are overflowing with potions! This is not the story of the battle between Mazel and the Demon Lord. This is the story about one man's attempt to make sure he doesn't end up as collateral damage!

Cool take on the Isekai Genre. The Protagonist not being the Hero is a breath of fresh air. I like how well researched tactics and strategies are. Looking forward to reading more.

Marvelous adaptation

Behind The Scenes is a series I first encountered as a fan translation, which I promptly binged in its entirety. This is an incredible story with the worldbuilding, characters and stakes to pull you in. Though the web novel wasn't without fault, as it skipped on important moments and had too much exposition and telling at times.

I'm happy to say this manga adaptation fixes all of my complaints, like adding the first meeting between Mazel and Werner. Couple this with gorgeous art that lends itself well to the overall ambience of the story, this is a manga series to look forward to.

Good story, rough art

The story is full of tropes typical to an isekai, but with the twist that the main character is reincarnated as nobody special. Naturally, he quickly becomes special, but it’s through his own efforts instead of because the game world plot forces the issue. I like that.
The main reason I voted this down to three stars is because I don’t like the art style. It’s very rough and hard for me to follow what’s happening, especially in the battle scenes. I want to follow more of the story, but I dislike the art so much, that I probably won’t buy any volumes. (I got this first one on Unlimited.)

Gorgeous art with intriguing characters and story. This adaptation fixes some of my issues with the light novel, giving the story a better overall flow that lets you truly appreciate everything that is happening. While it's an isekai, you really do end up getting immersed in this world. Characters are intelligent and make decisions that make sense, though this first volume really does just kind of throw you into the thick of things after the introductory chapter. Not a complaint, it just means things are already in motion. Would recommend.

This is lowkey a BL

This is one of the rare isekai stories where the MC doesn't have the power of God. There are consequences to his actions and he has to work hard for success. It's really nice to see how he keeps track of events and that he burns everything he writes down to avoid information leaks.

The artwork is nice!

great fun

Man I really like this it’s refreshing after so many of the turn off your brain reincarnated manga that gets shoved down our throats at every turn. The main character also has an interesting dilemma about knowing the original story that’s not oh whys it not going the way that it’s supposed because ml fell in love with me.

The art style is different than the usual fair. I kinda like it even if it's hard to tell what's going on at times. The story is fun, in that the protagonist isn't the real Hero, yet is. It's worth the read and I'm looking to forward to the next volume.

It has an interesting setup. The art is oftentimes too messy for me to really tell what’s going on (especially in the gorier parts, but maybe that’s a blessing 😅).

I picked this up randomly at the bookstore and decided to give a new series a shot. That was a great and horrible idea at the same time — now I've found a new series to love but have no volumes built up for me to read. I have to wait until JUNE for the next volume.

Werner is an interesting main character so far. He isn't overly powerful, but his knowledge of what's to come in this world makes him seem more capable. His friendship with the hero, Mazel, is more natural and real than I expected, and I can't wait to see how they grow and develop together in future volumes!

ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS.

Can't wait for the next volume!
SO looking forward to continuation.

Masterpiece? No. But, hot damn, it's one of the better isekai stories I've read.

From "I don't want to get involved" to "I will not let my best friend die on me" is excellent here.
The execution so far is great.

LOVE THIS!
