DNF at 17% / about 50 pages (right before the start of Chapter 5).
While this book was one of my “chance books” (books that look interesting, but I’ve never read another by the author, hence I’m taking a chance on it) from of my anticipated releases of 2022, I will be making it as DNF for a few different reasons.
I typically would give a book a bit of a longer try, but there were certain things I struggled with. Maybe one day I’ll try it again, but I honestly doubt so.
I felt very thrown into the story, I was confused. It feels like I should already know these characters and their history together, but it’s the author’s debut book. I think a prequel or at least a few of the first chapters should have given us more of the backstory.
I know that he’s undercover and having to gain the trust of the criminals, but I can’t say that I had a positive opinion of him in the fifty+ pages I read.
There were also a few comments or details that I found to be unnecessary and I thought that it would be better to quit before anything else is said. Personally, I just wasn’t feeling this story, the writing style, or the characters as much as I hoped.
