When inner city school teacher Terri Davies' star pupil is left home alone, she's reluctant to alert the authorities and the messy bureaucratic nightmare it entails. Instead she turns to her sister, Detective India Kane, to quietly locate the missing single mother.
It doesn't take long - India finds her sectioned in a psychiatric hospital, making wild claims her new born baby was stolen by a leading paediatrician. With no record of a baby ever being born, are her claims the ramblings of a mentally disturbed mind, or, does the baby really exist, as Terri insists? And if he does, where is he? Under pressure from her sister with reminders of her own haunted past, India sets out to find the truth.
As head of the Met's Paedophile Unit, Detective Chief Inspector AJ Colt has seen it all. But even he isn't prepared for what his team encounters during a raid on a Hollywood heart-throb's London home. With an elite predatory paedophile ring at large, the last thing he needs is for young girls to start disappearing from Social Services care.
When the same names start cropping up in both their investigations - Kane and Colt's cases become entwined, plunging them deep into the secretive world of the Family Court system . . . an institution whose secrets some will kill to keep.
Bo Brennan is a ‘Crime Thriller’ writer who has lived and worked in various locations. None were exotic.
Bo's favourite past times are reading, writing, and eating. Unfortunately, the three combined do nothing for the waistline, so moving about occasionally is a must.
Bo's debut novel, STEALING POWER, featuring British Detectives India Kane and AJ Colt, is the first of a trilogy to be published.
This is Bo Brennan’s second book featuring the detectives AJ Colt and India Kane. This is a complex story with many strands, all woven around a corrupt system of child care. In order to meet government targets on adoption, local authorities are ‘procuring’ new born babies in a number of totally immoral ways. Our two detectives with their often unconventional and occasionally ‘in-your-face’ policing methods, manage to connect some high profile people and wealthy private fostering agencies with the dirty deeds going on in the drive to meet government standards. It’s the sort of story where dreadful things happen, you are shocked and astounded – and then it only goes and gets worse!
Bo Brennan writes with great authority – it’s masterful stuff and the characters created here work particularly well together. They aren’t merely cardboard cut-outs; they have histories and seem very different from one another. Opposites attract though, and I have really enjoyed the way these two have come along since the first book, Stealing Power. Baby Snatchers is dark, chilling and disturbing. I adore this gritty, down to earth style of writing and look forward very much to more from Bo Brennan.
I can’t believe after having read this book I didn’t leave a review at the time, it’s obvious that it’s one I definitely overlooked to leave a review m, this book was awesome to say the least, it kept me gripped from the first chapter to the last, I read this in one go, as I genuinely couldn’t put it down, I don’t believe in putting any spoilers in any review, I remember once I had read a series of 12 books, on the last one number 12 my mother in law told me something and I ended up not being able to finish book 12 she had definitely spoilt the entire series. Bo Brenon certainly know how to keep you engrossed in her books, in parts I found where sad, yet full of twists, people have to realise although you maybe reading a novel, but a lot of what goes of in novel actually happens or has happened in real life. I definitely recommend this book as one of the best I have read, definitely recommend this book
This was a free book from Book Bub... I very rarely read books out of order!! Baby Snatchers was a difficult read at first, trying to get to know the many many characters. Once I read to the end.....what a great book. I've already downloaded 2 more in this series!!!!
Stealing Power was great, Baby Snatchers was better.....Can't wait to see more. Love the characters. Now the long wait for the next book in the series...The Wages of Sin!
This book is amazing, I could not put it down. It is rampant and unyielding.
The characters are likeable, interesting and have a good level of depth to them. There is a very clever use of entwined relationships and historical connections between characters throughout. All these links and ties are thought-provoking and believable.
This story focuses on several crime investigations which overlap, all involving children. There's a missing baby, a large number of missing young, underage, pregnant girls and a horrendous paedophile ring who prey on young boys.
It is superbly well written, intense and thrilling. I could not fault the writing, the story or any element. I could not wait to find out who was guilty, how they'd find out and how they would catch them.
There are some brutal, gut-wrenching moments. The writer does not sugarcoat anything. For those readers who may have been abused, lived in care or had a bad experience in care, this may be a triggering read.
I feel it is a solid 5 stars all round corker of a book.
My first book by Bo Brennan, but now I've finished I've since bought 2 more in the series. A very disturbing storyline, but one that goes on everywhere in the world, sad to say. I must admit i was hooked from the start, despite the horrific details. There are a lot of characters involved and at first I did struggle to follow who was who, but once I got further in, it was much easier to follow, so if you do struggle, please don't give up, as it's definitely worth the read. Whilst it made very difficult reading at times, it's a relief to know that in real life, there are determined people hunting down those responsible for these horrific crimes. I now have another author to follow! Highly recommended
I think this is the most disturbing, interesting and well written book I have ever read, and I read a lot.
We read in the press all too often about paedophiles and human trafficking but it always seems a little remote. We believe it, but it is unbelievable.
This book combines two linked investigations into a story which, unfortunately, is believable. My biggest sorrow with it is that the fourth paedophile is not caught, probably another factor making the story credible.
I highly recommend this book, as I do the author's first Kane and Colt investigation, but I suggest clearing your diary. It is an 'unput-downable' book which I read through the night.
OMG! This book had me from the first page. I did not want to set it down and kept sneaking back to the story when other duties were calling. The writing style had its own style of mystery in that not all was revealed at one time. I did have to go back a few times to reread sections to keep the characters in order. And the subject matter ... wowza. I was as disgusted as those battling the evil in the book. The tangled web of opportunistic scum had the reader turning right, then left and then left again. I started with this Book #2 of the group and must get #1 now. I am hooked on this author's great story telling style - a very refreshing change for me.
I’m so glad I’ve discovered this author, I’ve read the first two in the trilogy and they are unputdownable (is that a word?). Fast paced, action packed, feisty hero and heroine with morals and passionate and caring about their work, despite having their own issues they are working through. I can’t rate this book highly enough. The theme is scary, we all know it goes on and most of us hide away from it as we think it’s always someone else’s problem. Really brings it home to you and we’ve seen evidence of it a lot in recent years. It’s a full five stars from me.
To even consider that there are individuals out there capable of taking children and abusing them is something most people find very difficult. Once again the author addresses a serious issue through the lives of detectives Kane and Colt, but manages to keep a little bit of “lightness” to a dark and disturbing story through the continuing romance of Kane and Colt.
Yet again another fabulous book by Bo Brennan. I read this book after I'd read the 1st book and thoroughly enjoyed it. The characters are relatable and the story is told in a way that you think " just 1 more chapter " until it's 3am in the morning and you're knackered the next day 😂 ..... On that note, I'm off to read the final book of the trilogy
I really enjoyed this book. It has a lot of characters to follow. Full of suspense, mystery, twists and turns. It is so frustrating the way the system gets by with so much bullshit Justice was not served in this complicated case. I liked the surprise ending.
Just finished this - started yesterday bit hard to get into, but once I did wow. Needed to keep going to find out what happened. There were a lot of characters and different names to keep in my head but once worked that out it was a great read. Really interesting story and the ending really tied up a loose end for me.
I have just finished this second book of the trilogy but on the first book I didn't realise it was a debut so I think it's a cracker for being a first book,I am getting to know the characters better & it's hard subjects to write about but it's a crime book so I going to start the next book ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I really enjoyed this murder mystery with its well-developed, complex characters involved in an intricate storyline with plenty of twists to keep you guessing. Quite a bit of sex, violence, and language.
Well researched, accurate and worse, it's more than likely all true. A real eye opener about the Family Courts of you've never heard about them. As for the SS...
Read the 2 in the series and really enjoyed them. Love India, she doesn't give a dam! She is strong because of her childhood and I love the way she talks to her sergeant and what she done to hes bacon buttie!
The second in the Kane and Colt saga did not disappoint. Grim subject matter with, again, rather too much sex and bad language for my taste, but well-written and gripping. Looking forward to reading book 3.
Colt and Kane are hot on the trail of missing children. What they uncover will blow your mind. So much to think about. Does this actually happen in real life? I sure hope not.
Well written, enjoyed this book. Shame is that things like this is happening in real life. It's an eye opener when you realise how sad that children suffer at the hands that are meant to protect them. Strong characters throughout
Brennan will peak your interest from the start to end wanting for more. Got a view on India’s soft side behind the stone heart everyone thinks she has.
Glance into corrupt from within one of the departments which will be provided in next book.
The story might have been a good one, but the foul language was unbearable and, in my opinion, too much.I would have finished the book otherwise. Disappointing!
