The people of Ardonor suffer from a curse that flows through their veins…
…at any moment one of them could snap and transform into an enraged dragon.
To survive, the Order of the Dragon was created to train brave warriors how to combat dragons, and teach brilliant scholars how to alter the curse through science.
But not everyone was fond of the strict governance of the Order, and many saw that they could turn a handsome profit if they learned these skills outside of the Order’s control.
Jefrie Danglon was one such person.
Gifted with a brilliant mind, Jefrie found himself drawn to dralchemy. Working with his uncle, his best friend, and a Master Dralchemist, they quickly formed one of the most successful underground businesses in Ardonor.
But performing dralchemy outside of the Order has its risks.
When they agree to the most lucrative contract they’d ever seen, they thought it was simple and straight forward. Dragonlyst. An inordinate amount of dragonlyst. But what they soon realize is that they may have agreed to something that none of them were prepared for.
Randall Seeley currently lives in the midwest with his wife, three sons, and little girl. When he isn't acting out grand adventures and battles with his children, his hobbies include photography, hiking, and anything to do with the beach. And of course he loves reading! He's had a passion for writing since he was a very young boy and Dragon Born will mark his debut novel. Dragonlyst is his first published work and acts as a prologue to the Drahiad Chronicles which will be released in the near future.
The short novel is too short to know exactly where it is going, however it seems to have the potential to become an epic saga. The young alchemist in training mixes an elixir known as dragonlyst which is used to transform humans into dragons, the transformation is painful and the dragon turns on its own kin in anger. The elixir ends up in the wrong hands, those of the dark ones and their dark lord and the person who delivers it to them unfortunately discovers who the dark ones are and hence needs to be eliminated. This basically is the story in this short read which i am sure is to lead to the revenge the young alchemist wants to have on the dark ones who have stolen both his mentor and his sole surviving family and he does this by joining the group known as the Templars and their seekers.
I received an e copy of Dragonlyst: A Short Novel by Randall Seeley from storycartel.com in exchange for an honest review. I am a huge fantasy lover. This story line is unlike anything that I have previously read. The characters are interesting. The friendship between Jefrie and Arthur added to the story. I loved the mystery surrounding The Dark Lord, Morgar, The Templars and the Order. Overall, this was a fascinating read and I wish the next installment was available now.
I would highly recommend this story and I look forward to reading the next book in the series.
Catching from the very beginning. The characters grow in complexity throughout the story and you end up seeing yourself by their side. As the story goes on, you find yourself saying "no!" or stopping to take a deep breath. I can't wait to read "Dragon Born" and the whole Drahiad Chronicles!
I loved this book. The only problem with it was that it was too short. I finished it quickly and wanted more. Interesting storyline. Really looking forward to the next book in the series.
Tret, Jefrie's uncle, has taken the potion, dralchom, to the local overlord as requested. It is the first time that Koin, Jefrie's master, has allowed him to make the potion. Little does Tret know that he will see and say something he shouldn't that then leaves his life in the balance but leaning more toward death for himself and his family.
Dralchom is a potion that can, given the right circumstances, either kill or turn a person into a murderous dragon. As the overlord seeks revenge for Tret's mistake Jefrie and his friend Arthur must run for their lives.
This story centers around Jefrie and his best friend Arthur. Jefrie is an apprentice dralchom to master Kloin. Tret, Jefries uncle is financing the the development of Dragonlyst for a secret organization. An organization that will kill to keep it's secrets. What exactly is Dragonlyst? This story is well written and grabbed my attention from the beginning. With unique magic, unexpected twists and a lot of suspense. I really enjoyed this book.
This book was definitely engaging and also asked some excellent questions that drag you into the universe. It felt a tad too short but not necessarily in a bad way. Would definitely picking it up to read, but not necessarily one you read over and over.
I received a free e-version of this book in return for leaving a review.
The beginning of a epic series by this author, which starts out to tell the cautionary tale of a young man,his uncle, and his alchemist teacher that lead to tragedy, and a new destination! I liked it,the story was short, but strong, especially if you intend to follow through with author SEELEY'S other novels in this series.
This was a good and short story that was contained but leaves enough to make one want to continue. I loved just how quickly Mr Seeley was able to make me care for the characters and showed just how evil the Dark Lord was and the emotional moment that led to.
A great short novella that acts as a prequel to The Drahiad Chronicles. Dragonlyst is a chemical compound created by Dralchemists which can transform a human into a dragon. The book is very well written, with a good concept and engaging story. I look forward to reading more from Randall Seeley.
Very easy to read, flows from one character to the next only reason I gave it a four instead of five it felt a little to short even for a series. Still a good read and will be reading the rest of the books.
I really enjoyed reading this book! It gave a glimpse into the background of (without spoilers) characters. It’s a well developed story on its own. I really look forward to reading the next book in the series!
The storyline itself is really interesting and it certainly caught my attention. As others have mentioned it's main drawback is that it is too short. When the adventure is really about to take off, the novel ends leaving the reader hanging. It certainly sets up the rest of the series quite well though.
While I enjoyed the storyline and the characters, I felt the inner dialogue wasn't needed in many cases. It distracted me from the storyline rather than adding to it, thus making me not enjoy the novel overall as much.
I would still recommend it to anyone who finds the description interesting. Because while the inner dialogue was distracting to me, it may not be to others!
(I received the book for free through Goodreads First Reads!)
wonderful this short novel tells how it all began instead of dumping you in the middle of the story. Can't really say more without giving it away a must read before the series, includes a part of the first book sounds like a good series.
