R.S. Wilt is an unknown author to me and not all 40k Authors are made equal. As such, I approached this short story a little leary about what product I was going to get. Overall, this wasn't bad. 40k is a universe that lends itself to a multitude of genres just because of how vast it is. This is a small team mission. All the characters were written in a way that gave individual life to them. The style of the prose kept me reading. I was a little confused by last location and it being a coliseum on top of a hive spire and that image wasn't described well enough for me to fully form the picture in my head. Other than that, I enjoyed it. I look forward to more of Wilt's work.
I always appreciate it when Armed Forces personnel, active or inactive, share little nuggets of procedure when they write from the viewpoint of said Armed Forces. It gives the characters a stronger personality and a depth you cannot find without having lived it yourself...or so I'd like to think.
That being said, I'd be eager to see Traxel and co reappear in future Black Library material
