Puck Pact

Rate this book
I’ve never had a problem convincing a man to take me home for a night of fun.
Until I meet Alexander Krum.

He leaves me wanting more at the end of every encounter. Despite our insane attraction to one another, we couldn’t be more opposite.

He wants to take me on a date.
I want to head straight to his bedroom.
He believes in romance.
I know men in romance books don’t really exist.
He always wants to help.
I can take care of myself.

But then he comes to me with a proposition: A marriage arrangement to save his family's villa. His substantial offer has me overlooking our differences and saying “I do.”

There is only one problem...he's been hiding a secret from the media for the last four years. Pretending to be a wife is one thing, but this? I'm the last person he should want in this role.

Yet I can't bring myself to walk away. The incentive is too great, and when it's over, I will have my dream.

And it will be over. I'm not destined for happily ever after’s—no matter how real this charade is starting to feel.

i must admit that I wasn't expecting to fall in love with this book as much as I did. the slow-burning romance, coupled with the intense dramatic moments, completely surprised me. the character development, particularly that of Aarya, was exceptional. It's been a while since I've read a book with a strong and well-crafted female protagonist. overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this sweet romance and definitely will read more of this author.

When I say that Alexander MF Krum is my dream man, I FUCKING MEAN IT. Yes, I do love a good ol' dark romance with toxic and fucked up men but sometimes, I do love to read about a close to perfect man who just wants to take care of his woman and show her what it's like to be truly loved. And that was Alexander, ladies and gentleman. This book is one of the reasons why I LOVE the single dad trope. Seeing Aarya go from pushing Alex away to loving both him and Giuliana was incredible. I mean yeah, I did feel attacked whenever I read her POV (*incoming daddy issues*) but I loved it all the same😂 Funny story, my parents almost named me Aarya before settling on something else...so ig that's another reason why I feel a different sort of kinship with Aarya too haha. Manifesting and praying to every higher power in the universe that I get a man like Alexander irl. It's honestly so refreshing to see a hero who doesn't sleep around and a heroine who's hesitant to catch feelings instead of the opposite. Also, if my man doesn't fall for me first and hard and doesn't cry on our wedding day, ION WANT HIM🗣 10/10 would recommend this book!!!

P.S. Ladies, just a fair warning...make sure youe vibes are charged whenever you read the spicy scenes (or yk have your partner close by hehehe😏)

P.P.S. The only things I didn't like were a) Alex's SA being brushed off and mentioned like only once and b) Giuliana sounding more like a 15 year old girl than a 3 year old lolz. Other than that, the book was PERFECT.

safety squad:
- no OW/OM drama
- no cheating/sharing
- single dad (the child's mother is not in the picture and she basically SA'd the H and got pregnant because she wanted his money. This is something I wish the author had touched upon more instead of just brushing it off. The H being roofied is a big thing and not something you can forget about after a brief conversation)
- marriage of convenience
- sports romance
- found family
- he falls first AND harder (H has eyes for the h ONLY)
- black cat x golden retriever (the h pushes him away until she finally starts to trust the H)
- she's a commitment phobe/sleeps around while he wants a relationship
- celibate H (for 4 years)
- banter
- condom used for the first two times then not used
- minor breeding kink
- (slightly) possessive H
- green flag hero❌️ green forest hero✔️
- mentions of SA (off page - see above), death of parents, cancer, neglect, cheating (not between MCs), estrangement, etc so don't forget to check the TWs
- HEA with a baby on the way

"Stop looking at me like that."
"Can't help it."
"Is that the same look you have the waiter?"
"Jealous?"

He steps into my space and tugs on the zipper of my jacket, pulling it all the way up. "Do I need to be?"
"I'd like to see you jealous."
My gaze falls to his lush mouth, "I'd also like to see you on your knees."
He leans closer, his lips brushing the cusp if my ear. "That makes two of us."

I hope Alexander Krum and Adam Lockwood never find themselves in the same room together because the amount of golden retriever daddyness would be unbearable to handle for mere humans.
I had so much fun with this book and was glad, for once, that the emotionally available one was the FMC and not the opposite. It was kind of refreshing and also adorable to witness all the ways Alex's sweetness took Aarya by surprise.
Marriage of convenience trope was so well done and the chemistry between Alex and Aarya is simply stellar.
There were just a couple things I didn't really like about this, and the biggest complaint I have is definitely tied to how (there's a tw under this spoiler tag) was treated. Like, it was mentioned and kind of brushed off like it was nothing, but it really wasn't it. Poor thing was and it was treated very lightly meanwhile Aarya's boss harassing her and her colleagues was a big plot focus point. Double standards like these don't sit well for me.
Another thing that rubbed me the wrong way was how Alex's kid talked and behaved. There's nothing as underwhelming and annoying as a 4yo that talks and thinks like a teenager.
As a mother of a 5yo who thinks farts and hot wheels tracks are conference-worthy topics, I can't tell whether some authors have never actually interacted with a kid or if they think their readers won't mind reading about a literal toddler speaking like a politician running for congress.

Aside from this, this book was pure entertainment and it really made me wanna explore more of Granata's works. Totally recommend to fans of sports/hockey romance and reverse grumpy/sunshine relationships.

Kristen DID THE DAMN THING with this book. 👏🏼 Hands down my favorite from the series. Krum Cake has my whole. entire. heart.

Puck Pact follows Alexander Krum, captain of the Goldfinches NHL Team, & Aarya, who we have met in the previous books as Cassidy’s best friend. Alex & Aarya have a strong connection and obvious attraction from the start, but after being screwed over in the past, Alex isn’t looking for anything casual and Aarya isn’t looking for anything more than one night with the hot hockey captain. However, Alex finds himself in a situation where he needs to find a wife — & fast… who better for the job than the one feisty, independent woman who is adamant she doesn’t need a man?

This story is definitely a bit of a slow burn but once it starts burning… Oh baby it BURNS 😮‍💨🔥 These two were so explosive & absolutely perfect together. Alex was the perfect mix between dominant/possessive and sweet/supportive. I loved Aarya’s character development in this book — her growing relationship with Giuliana was so beautiful & seemed so natural despite her fears. Overall obsessed with this little fam 🥹🖤

Thank you Kristen for allowing me to read & review early. I loved every second of Alex & Aarya’s story!

I’m not sure how this book is so well rated. Aarya is an insufferable FMC who, while being sexually harassed by her own boss decides to have no respect for the boundaries of a man saying he doesn’t want to sleep with her.

Guiliana is cute but her mannerisms do not match a 4 year old nor does her vocabulary. All in all, I wouldn’t waste my time

Both of my worlds colliding what else could this be other than a 5-star read?

I’ll always be weak for a romance where he’s the romantic one, it just hits different, and I need more of it in my life. Alexander was absolute perfection (I swear, this week has just been one perfect book man after another). He’s such a fictional man.

Aarya, my sweet love. I’ve adored her since book one and she continued to deliver. I love a strong, independent woman, and she was everything. Her not turning down that money? Icon behavior. She knew what she wanted and didn’t apologize for it.

Her being so nervous about being a stepmom only to be amazing at it?? She literally did research just to make sure she was good for that baby 😭. I loved her even more for that.

This book had everything: emotion, banter, swoon-worthy moments. I already want to reread it.

liked this but didn’t love it 🤔

🏒 golden retriever mmc x black cat fmc
🏒 single dad
🏒 hockey romance
🏒 marriage of convenience
🏒 he falls first
🏒 playGIRL x celibate hero
🏒 no third act

Alexander and Aarya meet one night out at a club. they have an instant attraction towards one another but Alex isn’t the one night stand type and Aayra isn’t the relationship type. they run into each other a few times then months go by of nothing. Alex learns of a stipulation of his grandfathers will that he has to be married by his 30th birthday in order for him to receive his parents villa in Italy (the only thing he has left of them). they meet again and eventually decide they will marry. Alex gets his house and Aayra gets the money to open her own art gallery.

Alex was such a sweetheart 🥺🥺 i just adored him so much. he was such a good father and person in general. as a significant other? oh boy 😮‍💨 he really did everything he could to show Aarya that not all men are the same and he wants to be different, to not be just someone she wants for the night.

Aarya got annoying to me real fast. i usually like when my fmc are strong, independent women but i just couldn’t stand her attitude. how many times do we need to hear that she doesn’t trust any men, all she needs is herself.. blah blah blah. meanwhile Alex is bending over backwards to get her to let him in.

i felt like his daughter was waaaay too well versed and mature to only be 3-4 years old. the nicknames were cringe worthy. his drugging and rape (that lead to his daughter so it’s fine 🙄) was talked about like once. i hate how it was all forgiven bc he got his daughter out of it. there was just soo much going on here

also can we talk about how every single hockey romance acts like paparazzi literally follow players everywhere?? i have never seen paparazzi pictures of my team unless it’s at an event lol.

Interestingly, this starts with a scene from the first book.

While Cassidy and Trenton's story (Heart Trick) was great, I think this one is my favourite out of the three!

It had less smut than the others and it felt like we were getting to know these characters as they were getting to know each other.

I loved Alex's POV! I also loved how we were right there with Aarya as she learned to trust and love.

My one complaint is that the same nickname was used as the previous book.

DAMN THIS BOOK WAS GOOD

review

This book had me hooked from the very first line. This has easily become my favorite book of Kristen's. Aarya is a stubborn girl who doesn't believe much in love and Krum is our cinnamon roll hero, a hopeless romantic. Since their very first meet cute these two HAD the tension, and trust me when I say it never left. One of my favorite parts of this book was watching Aarya's shield and tough exterior become less with Krum. The way that she felt safe with him like no one else was just so special to watch. I recommend this series to literally everyone, and ughh to be them. loved it

tropes:

🖤Cinnamon roll hero

🖤Black cat heroine

🖤Marriage of convenience

🖤Forced proximity

🖤Hockey romance

🖤Biker boy

🖤“Keep your hands off wife”

🖤A secret

🖤 thank you so much Kristen for letting me be a part of your arc team 🖤

This is how you do a marriage of convenience! Alexander Krum needs to find a wife to inherit his family villa in Italy, Aarya needs money to open her own gallery. These two have some intense flirty vibes with each other, so it should be an interesting marriage where he actually wants to date her and she just wants to climb him like a tree!

"I don't want our first kiss to be for them."
"And why's that?"
"Because I want it to belong to me." He brushes his nose against mine. "Because I've wanted to kiss you since the first night we met. Because I don't want you to think I'm doing this for the cameras." I hold my breath, waiting for him to make the first move- needing him to be the one to do it. And then his mouth covers mine.

🌶️🌶️🌶️

The chemistry and banter between Alex and Aarya is top tier. I absolutely love the way Aarya riffs on his "Krum Cake" nick name, and you can tell he loves it so much. Aarya has been burned by everyone in her life, abandoned by her father, unloved by her mother, harassed at work by a piece of crap boss so she is not even remotely interested in being tied down, just tied up. Alex has also been burned by a previous relationship that changed his life forever, and an evil grandfather but Alex isn't letting that stop him from wanting love. He wants it so bad; he wants to be seen for more than a hockey player, more than a team captain, more than a.... (Insert spoiler here). He wants someone to see his heart and soul.
While the second book of the series was not my favorite, this third book Puck Pact jumped right back into the swoony feelings I got when reading Heart Trick. I'm very excited to see where the series takes us!

He turns around and pours pumpkin spice creamer into his own mug that says Number One Dad. I arch a brow. “You like pumpkin spice?” “I do.” He clinks his mug against mine before taking the seat on the other side of his daughter. “And I don’t think I like your tone.” I snort. “I just find it interesting that the big, tough hockey player likes pumpkin spice coffee creamer.”

This was a pretty average romance. I found the plot twist to be predictable. 🤷‍♀️ I think their love story was a cute one, though. I absolutely adored Guiliana, the sassy, caring 4 year old. She really made the story for me. I have to admit the wedding had me feeling some type of way. It was the sweetest wedding scene ever. 🥲 What can I say, I'm a romance girl at heart. I'll contuine to devour all the sappy love stories I can get my hand on. 😅

This was really really cute
The tropes are-
•single dad
•marriage of convenience
•he falls first
•she falls harder
•wild child (fmc)

Krum cake is really the biggest gentleman and it's so cute how he's soooooo perfect. And the fmc overcomes her insecurities to be with him and his daughter is just the cherry on top. Eekkk

I feel like the starting was Perfect but as the story proceeds and reaches the end, it gets a little boring

The story was cute, but not more than 3 stars cute. Let me tell you why.
1. Aarya doesn’t trust men and will not stop talking about it. We get it. Your dad didn’t want you.
2. The toddler has the emotional stability and speech of a 10 year old. It’s not hard to google milestones. Either make the kid older or research what they should be acting like.
3. Alexander’s drugging and rape were passed off as him “being taken advantage of” and it was fine because he got his daughter out of it. No. It was not fine. It’s also not fine to downplay the seriousness of the situation because he’s a man.

For me this book ended the moment the FMC told the below to the MMC.

“You’re better than me. I’d totally take advantage of you if you were drunk.”

Like, I’m sorry, but are you FUCKING KIDDING ME?

Sucks because the premise sounded right up my alley.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. Thank you so much, Kristen Granata!

“Stop telling yourself that you don't deserve everything I want to give you, because you do. You deserve the moon and the stars, and every single good thing in this world. And I'll spend the rest of my life convincing you of that.”

This is the third book in the East Coast series. It's a standalone so you don't have to read the previous books in order to follow along with this story. However, their timelines somewhat overlap, so there will be spoilers for the events of Heart Trick and Odd Man Rush.

Puck Pact follows the story of Alexander Krum (cake) – hockey player and captain of the Goldfinches – and Aarya – education officer in an art gallery and Cassidy's (from Heart Trick) best friend. Ever since they met, they have undoubtedly been attracted to each other. However, they have very different goals. Aarya doesn't do relationships, she wants a fun night and no strings attached; while Alex doesn't have one-night stands, like never. Not even Aarya will change his mind because there's a secret that Alex has been keeping away from the media which prevents him from breaking his resolve.

Alex finds himself at risk of losing his parents' villa. To prevent this from happening, he offers Aarya a mutually beneficial agreement, but she has to marry him.

I absolutely LOVED this book. Marriage of convenience is one of my favorite tropes and it did not disappoint. It had me laughing and crying (both sad and happy tears) The dynamic between Alex and Arya was so well-developed.

I love it when the FMC has black cat energy, but they usually aren't well-written and they are stereotyped. That was not Aarya's case at all. She's a multilayered character and we know where her fears come from. And this is where Alex comes in, showing yet another of his infinite qualities, his unwavering patience.

Alex is pure perfection, honestly. Book boyfriend material? HE'S HUSBAND MATERIAL. He just set the bar impossibly high. The surprise – his secret – was just perfect. I wish I could talk about it! It just makes Alex all the more perfect, truly.

I wasn't expecting to love this book as much as did but it was really wholesome.

This book was a highly anticipated read for me; not only do I adore hockey romance but I also adore this series and was so excited to read Alexander’s story! Kristen really smashed this book; I absolutely loved it!

For real though, this book was amazing. An absolute cinnamon roll of a hockey captain needs a wife in order to inherit his family’s villa in TUSCANY. Insert the beautiful black cat, Aarya who needs some funds to set up her own art gallery. GUYS. Read this book! I love marriage of convenience so much, the “my wife” moments always get me in my feels, throw in the forced proximity to keep up the charade and it’s just perfection! God I loved these two so much! Aarya was so fiercely independent but filled with self doubt. She really came into her own throughout this book and finally saw herself how others see her. She truly found her peace with Alex. Alex was ughhhhh such a sweetheart. The perfect book boyfriend / fake husband. He was so swoony. The surprise - his secret - just made him even more perfect! He wore his heart on his sleeve, he was patient and he was exactly who Aarya needed.

I enjoyed this book so much, it really reiterated why I love hockey (and sports romance in general) in terms of the found family vibes and how we can choose the people we have in our lives.

What to expect:

* hockey romance
* cinnamon roll hero x black cat heroine
* Marriage of convenience
* Forced proximity

4.5 ✨ / 2 🌶️

Honestly, this was a difficult book to rate. I wanted to DNF around 8% but my love for Alexander Krum and the Goldfinch hockey boys kept me reading. Aarya is a hard FMC to like. Her black cat in the black cat/golden retriever trope was the biggest turn off for me. While this book dealt with some heavy themes, SA and SH, the FMC (Aarya) couldn’t stop pressuring the MMC (Alex) to sleep with her. This sweet cinnamon roll told her “No”many times but she pressured him during every encounter. No means No and it just felt gross. Had the roles been switched would more people be bringing this up in their review??

Aarya came across as closed off and self obsessed and by the end her walls did crumble but I just wanted to get through it and see Krum Cake get his happily ever after.

Rating: 🍰🍰 (2⭐️ for Alexander "Krum Cake" Krum only)
Spice: 🌶️🌶️ (self pleasure, 🌽 with a P, 👅, breeding)
T/W: parent death (in past), parent abandonment (in past, referenced on page), Sexual Assault (in past, discussed on page), Sexual Harassment (on page), drunk driving (in past, referenced on page), hospital scenes (on page), fighting (on page)

I really enjoy this author and the Goldfinch series but this book definitely deserves some time in the Sin Bin. Sorry Krum Cake.
