Segundo boatos, trabalhou com a administração Reagan, no início dos anos 80, com o objetivo de enfraquecer a economia soviética, embora também se diga que trabalhou no KGB como espía no mundo ocidental.
A final dos 80 foi localizado em Seattle, como produtor de música grunge com o pseudônimo de Johnny de Nunes.
Durante uma década não se soube o seu paradeiro e no início do século, é encontrado como empresário e comerciante de burcas entre as montanhas do Paquistão e Afeganistão com o nome de Mustafa de Nunes. Confrontos entre os talibãs e as tropas norte-americanas fizeram que voltasse a desaparecer durante um período.

A very interesting murder mystery, well written so that the characters capture your attention as they are introduced. I enjoyed this story,as we look at an incident from the view of a cop trying to solve it, the person who committed it and the husband of the deceased.
We get a different sense of a murder, and the road to the end is full of turns so you can't realize what happened until you happily enjoy the end result.

Marina is falling in love with a colleague at work and out of love with her husband. Andre is married with a young son; he says he loves Marina but can't leave his son.
Marina decides that she doesn't want to be the 'other' woman on the side and the affair is ended. Sometime later, Andre's wife is killed.
Oscar is the homicide detective leading the murder investigation. He finds there are several suspects. One is a colleague with whom the woman argued shortly before her death. She also had a lover that she was no longer seeing. Marina and her husband are both suspect, but it's Andre who is the prime suspect.
There are three parts to this story ... the first is told by Marina, followed by Oscar having his say as he investigates. The last is also told in Marina's voice.
It's not a highly suspenseful story, as the truth is revealed in the first part of the book. The journey that Oscar takes to find the truth is engaging.
This is a well written crime fiction with the translation exceptionally done.

Às 2:00 da manhã a porta abriu-se e eu acordei sobressaltada, adormecera na sala enquanto esperava que o meu filho chegasse, tinha ido jogar a Murches com a sua equipa de hóquei em patins. Ligara-me a dizer que tinham parado para jantar em Cascais e que iria chegar tarde, não estava preocupada porque o sabia em segurança, mas mesmo assim fiquei na sala esperando a sua chegada. Com o sobressalto despertei, peguei no tablet, cliquei no Kindle, comecei a ler Manual de um Homicídio. A história agarrou-me e só parei de ler já o dia estava a clarear.
Terminei de ler o livro às 15:00, não conseguia parar de ler, tal era o interesse em saber como terminaria a história. Gostei:

... da forma como foi contada (com dois narradores),
... da simplicidade da escrita,
... do tema, muito pertinente….
... dos personagens, apesar de não concordar com “ o fim justifica os meios”, simpatizei com os vilões

Marina e André são colegas de trabalho, com muitos interesses em comum, apaixonam-se física e intelectualmente. Ambos são casados, Marina separa-se de Júlio e não tem filhos, André tem um filho, e apesar de amar Marina, jamais se separaria da mulher, por não querer viver, o seu dia-a-dia, sem o seu filho. Marina engravida inadvertidamente.
Sofia, esposa de André é assassinada. Sofia é informática, obcecada pelo trabalho e ambiciosa, luta por uma posição melhor dentro da empresa e também tem um amante, Luís.
Óscar, um detetive astuto, feliz no seu casamento e na sua profissão. Tenta desvendar o mistério, mas o caso que parecia simples, afinal apresenta outros tentáculos, são vários os suspeitos: André, Marina, Luís, O Colega e rival de Sofia. Quem terá morto Sofia? E porquê?

Manual for Murder is a well written, gripping and fast-paced story with well-developed characters.
How far would we be willing to go and how much would we be willing to sacrifice to get what we desire. Does Love justify murder?
The story is told by two narrators, Marina, who is bored with her everyday life and begins an affair with a married coworker, and Oscar, a detective, who is put against a cunning murderer.
Thanks to Marina Mortimore for recommending this engaging book to me.

Este lo recibí del autor para una reseña honesta.
Fue muy bueno, la verdad al leer la sinopsis tuve mis dudas de cómo exactamente seria el libro, pero según avanzaba en la historia más interesante se ponía . Debo decir el principio como en toda novela policiaca es un poquito lento pero es que hay que entender que es lo que esta pasandole a los personajes, una vez eso se concentra y empezamos la parte del asesinato y la investigación sentí que todo se fue rapidisimo pero me encanto esa trama y el final fue super interesante.
Los personajes son tan humanos y las vivencias tan cotidianas que me sentí absorbida por ellos, de verdad es un libro que te envuelve.
Una muy buena adición al librero de cualquier amante de la novela negra.

Portuguese born Gonçalo J. Nunes Dias graduated in Environmental Engineering and Natural Resources of the Polytechnic Institute of Castelo Branco. He lives today in the Basque Country, Spain and on his social media listing addresses himself and an author, ornithologist and a cork tree expert! THE GOOD DICTATOR was his debut novel, promising to be the first in a series Gonçalo is calling ‘The Birth of an Empire. The translation form the Portuguese is by Ethan Mortimore. Before the second volume of that series is published Gonçalo has written a fine new mystery that expands our appreciation of his talent as a writer of substance. This book has been translated form the Portuguese by Timothy Came.
In a unique bow to his readers Gonçalo opens with the nidus for his book – ‘Story taken from the Lisbon Chronicle newspaper: “Late yesterday afternoon, in Alto do Colaride, a burnt-out car containing a charred body was found. A local resident informed the authorities, who rushed to the scene and doused the small fire inside the vehicle. At the time of writing, neither the identity of the victim nor any potential suspect in the case had been identified.” And that provides the springboard for this intensely involving novel.
The story is related in different voices (another fine twist of routine) and the book opens with Marina’s version (and later Oscar’s) of the murder to come: ‘To tell my version of the story, I must go back to the beginning of December 2016. I was at a primary school Christmas party, where a group of 4 and 5 year olds sang songs, with a complete lack of order and rhythm, several being more interested in playing up to the audience, which was overwhelmingly composed of parents and grandparents. They laughed and, telephones in hand, recorded the moment for posterity. When they arrived home, they would surely flood social media with photos and toxic platitudes like “my children are my happiness” or “there is a mother in heaven when a child is happy.” What was I, a childless woman of 38, who didn’t enjoy Christmas or the company of children, doing in this place? I was accompanying Dora, an old friend, who had one child on the stage and another on her lap, watching his brother sing and wave at his mother, who responded by blowing kisses. I thought to myself: what am I doing here? There was something missing in my life, and it was not a child. The fact that my boyfriend could not have children was not the reason for this dissatisfaction. I felt it was my fault. I couldn’t find amusement in this kind of situation; while all around me laughed and enjoyed themselves, I was apathetic. Perverso:
Segundo livro do autor, que passou de uma distopia para um policial. De narrar em terceira pessoa para relatar os factos agora em primeira. Manual de um Homicídio é um livro empolgante, que descreve lentamente como uma pessoa encontra um motivo para assassinar e depois planeia-o.
O surgimento do personagem policial é primoroso, promove o suspense, faz-nos acompanhar toda a investigação, sabendo desde o inicio de toda a trama. Um dos momentos mais altos é o discurso de Óscar perante marina, como ele tenta encurralá-la.
É um trabalho bem diferente do primeiro, eu diria mais comercial, mais acessível a todos os públicos. Pior? Não, diferente, uma tempestade de sentimentos, um querer que a justiça seja feita, mas por outro lado, o simpatizar com a assassina.
Repito o que disse sobre este autor: é melhor contador de historias do que escritor, ainda assim, imperdível qualquer trabalho

I read this hoping to find a light murder mystery that would help me maintain my Portuguese: mission accomplished. Pretty enjoyable read too... I would continue reading more of his books if the author publishes another light murder mystery.

Marina Fonseca, 38 años, casada hace 13 años con Julio Ribeiro, sin hijos.
André de Carvalho, 41 años, casado hace 20 años con Sofía, un hijo de 8 años llamado Marcos.
Ambos trabajan en una empresa llamada Corkbo, que se dedica a la comercialización y exportación de tapones de corcho para todo el mundo. Por lo tanto son compañeros de trabajo, pero a medida que avanza la historia su amistad se transformará en algo más que acabará con un crimen.
El libro se separa por tres partes:
1era parte: Narrado por Marina
2da parte: Narrado por Oscar, el dectetive
3era parte: De nuevo narrado por Marina
En si la narración es rápida y se desarrolla con gran agilidad que atrapa inmediatamente al lector, orientándolo desde el principio hasta el fin de la historia, como también el avance de la investigación del crimen.
Cuya investigación solo posee muy vagas pistas, a pesar que el desenvolvimiento que posee es muy bueno, no llegó a agradarme del todo, ya que solo termina en tener hipótesis de la posibilidad de que esa persona si o si es el asesino. Hay otros acusados, pero no son totalmente investigados, es decir, le falto profundización en ese tema y del porqué el detective está tan seguro quién cometió el homicidio.
A pesar de ello disfrute la lectura, buena para pasar una tarde y saciar la intriga que desarrollas a leer ésta novela.
"Estoy convencida de que cualquier ser humano, herido, desesperanzado, en un momento de lucha por la propia supervivencia, podría cometer actos tremendamente repugnantes".

An intense and intriguing crime fiction...
“Manual for a Murder” by Gonçalo JN Dias is a wonderfully written and richly descriptive novel with vividly drawn characters driven by heady and dangerous desires.. The author weaves a well-crafted crime fiction with intriguing twists and turns that will captivate the reader from the first page to the last. Skillfully constructed, it’s a gripping tale that fans of mystery, thriller and suspense will enjoy.
The story had every element a good story should have. A solid plot, attention to detail, but best of all fleshed out, well-written and well-rounded character development. There’s an abundance of well-illustrated scenes that make you feel like you are right there in the story, and that’s something I really look for in a good book.
I enjoyed the story, character development, and dialogue. There were plenty of plot twists that I didn’t see coming and that added to the book’s mystique. When I stopped reading to work, I found myself wondering what happened in the book, and replaying parts of the novel in my head to see if I could figure more out. It has been a while since I enjoyed a book this much.
This was a fascinating and captivating read that had me immersed from the beginning. The story flowed from scene to scene with ease, and the author shows exceptional ability when it comes to storytelling. There are plenty of attention-grabbing moments in this page turner that will take the reader on a truly fascinating and intense journey. Five stars.

Me recomendaron este libro y me animé a llevarlo de lectura en mis vacaciones.
Lo leí en muy pocos días.
Me enganchó mucho porque es una novela muy fresca que te atrapa. Las acciones ocurren con un dinamismo brillante. No hay descripciones monótonas que te despisten de la trama. La historia narra, como dice el título, un homicidio, contada en primera persona a través de los mismos personajes. Es muy interesante ver ese punto de vista personal de cada uno y esto para mí lo hizo más atractivo....meterte en la cabeza de los personajes, intentar comprenderles o no, sus razones, lógicas y como van ejecutándolo todo paso a paso.
La recomiendo muy positivamente. Es muy entretenida y el tiempo leyéndolo se te pasa sin darte cuenta.

Es muy interesante ver ese punto de vista personal de cada uno y esto para mí lo hizo más atractivo....meterte en la cabeza de los personajes, intentar comprenderles o no, sus razones, lógicas y como van ejecutándolo todo paso a paso.
La recomiendo muy positivamente. Es muy entretenida y el tiempo leyéndolo se te pasa sin darte cuenta.

Ayer a la noche me dije, vamos a continuar con este libro, leo un poquito y me voy a dormir... esas cosa que una cree que va a cumplir pero no. Me quedé hasta la madrugada atrapada en esta historia sin darme cuenta que el tiempo se esfumaba.
La historia en si, es tal como lo dice el título un Manual de un homicidio en donde vemos las cosas desde el punto de vista de un personaje, vamos viendo como las cosas que le suceden lo empujan a cometer un asesinato, como lo planea y como lo ejecuta. Por lo que la gracia del libro, no es descubrir al asesino ni quien será la víctima, sino que los que nos mantiene en vela, es ver si podrá hacer lo planeado y si logrará la policía atraparlo o si por el contrario saldrá impune.
La narración es fluida, no hay rellenos, no hay detalles excesivos, y a modo personal quizás eso le quitó un poco de brillo, porque soy de las que le fascinan los detalles, por ejemplo, cuando se habla de la ciudad no se cuenta mucho, y me hubiera gustado conocer un poco más de las calles de Lisboa, pero lo repito es un gusto personal.
Los personajes están bien construidos, aunque el móvil que empuja al asesino no es algo que comparto, de hecho creo que le faltaban algunos jugadores. No llegué a simpatizar con ninguno, ni siquiera cuando hubo un cambio de relator en la historia, y pudimos ver la investigación policial. El encargado de esclarecer el crimen, me pareció un sujeto un tanto petulante y engreido, pero fue agradable saltar de la cabeza de un personaje a la de otro, para tener un punto de vista diferente de lo que estaba ocurriendo.
En definitiva, un libro atrapante, que te mantiene en vilo, sin lugar a dudas lo recomiendo.

This is a fabulous story that had me hooked from the beginning. Gonçalo JN Dias has done a fabulous job in weaving this story together, with a very clever and intense plot. I know how much I’m enjoying a book when I need to stop reading it for work and life’s other interruptions, then I’m excited when I start reading it again, and this is definitely one of those stories. I also like that I didn’t pick the ending.
Marina Fonseca thought her life was ok, nothing special, but just ok. That was until a work college Andre de Carvalho started to show some interest in her. After so many years with her husband Julio, things had grown a bit stagnant, and a change is just what she needed. Of course, Marina had a big decision to make, as there was no turning back once she crossed the line and got together with Andre. What Marina didn’t count on was how hard she was going to fall in love with him and his son. The only hurdle for Marina is that Andre is still married, and it doesn’t look like he’s prepared to leave his wife for her. The big question is, what Marina is prepared to do now. From start to finish this is an exceptional book, and I would certainly recommend it. 5/5 Star Rating.

Intense read
It's a very well written story, and another great one from the author. The characters in Manual for a Murder, are remarkable and well developed. This author definitely knows how to tell a story, making for the twists and story plot unpredictable. A character who believes her life was mundane, changes, and things, life, takes over. I like the way the story was weaved, bringing it to an unforeseen conclusion. Wonderfully done.

Ao contrário do que eu imaginava, esse livro não pertence a um autor nacional, e sim a um autor lusitano. Escrito em português lusitano, é totalmente acessível a leitura por um brasileiro. As palavras diferentes são bem poucas, facilmente encontradas em um dicionário comum ou no dicionário do próprio Kindle, que é atualmente o único formato disponível para venda na Amazon. Bem vamos a resenha, deixando bem claro que se trata de uma ficção, o livro começa com uma manchete de um jornal Lisboeta, da cidade de Lisboa em Portugal, palco dos acontecimentos da história, onde um corpo feminino foi encontrado dentro de um carro em chamas no Alto de Colaridade, a partir desse ponto, a obra se divide em 3 partes. A primeira parte, leva o nome da protagonista e irá contar sua história. Marina, uma mulher de 38 anos, bem sucedida em sua profissão, em um relacionamento falido de 13 anos com Júlio, que a garantiu estabilidade e serenidade no inicio. Com o passar dos anos, o relacionamento se tornou rotineiro e junto ao fato de ele não poder ter filhos, se desgastou. Próximo ao natal, quando Marina resolve fazer as compras de fim de ano, Marina encontra André, que trabalha na mesma empresa que ela em um cargo mais alto, casado e pai de um filho, sedutor nato, em um centro de compras e sua vida muda radicalmente. Já na segunda parte, que leva o nome de Óscar, o nome do detetive de homicídios encarregado de solucionar o caso, o melhor da região em sua profissão. Óscar se depara com um caso difícil, onde as investigações parecem sempre terminar em uma "rua sem saída", confiando em sua intuição, ele faz de tudo para desvendar o misterioso assassinato que parece retratar um crime perfeito. A terceira parte, que novamente leva o nome de Marina, carrega o desfecho da trama. Um desfecho inacreditável, que nos faz pensar e repensar. Até onde o homem é capaz de ir para conseguir seus objetivos? Sinceramente, não é o meu gênero preferido de leitura, sobretudo pelo final, gosto de finais felizes e esse não é bem o caso. Porém, a escrita é boa e interessante e prende a atenção até as últimas páginas. É um livro polêmico, tão bem redigido que parece real. Se você gosta deste tipo de leitura, vai adorar.

Considering that this was translated from Portuguese and some of the wording was off just slightly, (barely enough to make an impact on your reading, but enough to notice) this was a fantastic novel.
At first, you think it's just the telling of a love story. Of two people finding each other, after having known each other for years, and getting together. That in itself was lovely.
Then all of a sudden, things turn dark. And, you almost can't believe what's about to happen and if it will actually happen. No spoilers here, of course!
This book was pretty quick paced, held your interest, and kept you flipping those pages til it was finished. Not to mention, it had great character development. I'm looking forward to seeing what else this author has to offer.
I want to thank Gonçalo Dias for the gift of this book. In return, I offer this completely unbiased review.

No podía dejar este libro después de levantarlo. Es bien escrito y los personajes son bien desarrollados. Me sentía la presión de cada vida y las decisiones difíciles que tomaron. El final me sorprendió y me dejó sin aliento.

Qué? Qué es esto?
Solo leí este libro porque una chica de uno de mis clubes de lectura lo recomendó, pero no le vuelvo a hacer caso.
Sé que esto está basado en hechos reales, o eso dice la portada, pero si el caso se basara en mí lo denunciaba.
Por dónde empezar? La historia está contada en primera persona, descrita como quien hace la lista de la compra. El personaje de Marina es muy basico, tanto que roza la estupidez. Y qué obsesión con Natacha! Su forma de planear el asesinato ha sido ridícula. Creo que a la historia en conjunto le falta desarrollo y profundidad. El personaje de Óscar es tan básico como el de Marina: un fanfarrón que se cree mejor que nadie y que está obsesionado con las series americanas. Qué horror de historieta. Y ese final 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🙄🙄🙄🙄

Uff me costó un montón terminar este libro, y siento que me dio un poco de resaca leerlo...
No sé muy bien como enfocar todos mis sentimientos con esta lectura, creo que sin tener expectativas aún así esperaba un poco más. La idea es buenísima, pero el desarrollo es al que le falta estar más pulido. La obsesión que es la trama principal me dejó un poco con los pelos de punta ya que espero nunca me suceda y termine en un coche con un asesino obsesionado... El final fue muy ñe... todo lo del respeto, confianza y perdón no me lo creí para nada y creo que es esto último lo que me hizo decidir la puntuación.

This story is divided into three parts. The first and last are from Marina's point of view and the second is from Oscar's point of view. The two different viewpoints add a little more intensity to the story than if only one was presented.
I read a translated version of this book. There were some parts that read a little awkward, and that slowed the flow of the story for me. This is a short book though, so it was still a fast read.

Al principio me costó engancharme al libro, no empatizaba con los personajes ni me parecía interesante la historia, por lo que se me hizo cuesta arriba la primera mitad de la historia. A partir de la segunda mitad ya si que me enganchó bastante, y aunque ya me esperaba el final, en conjunto me ha entretenido.

Personajes pobremente llevados, donde los buenos son malos y los malos, pues dan lástima.
Si bien la premisa era interesante creo que fue pobremente tratada.
No encontré un clímax que la hiciera atractiva.
Sosa, aburrida y de personajes planos.
Pero si, es un tema diferente, lástima lo ma llevado.

Si bien la premisa era interesante creo que fue pobremente tratada.
