Dark Olympus #10

Shattered Gods

Rate this book
She was Olympus's Queen. Its sacrifice. Its savior. Its destruction.

Long ago, Circe was Hermes' entire heart. The two women lived on the outskirts of Olympian society, content with a quiet life away from the spotlight. Then Circe caught the eye of Zeus…and was forced into a marriage that would take her freedom, her future, and in the end, her life. In the wake of the tragedy, gossip swirled about the woman Zeus married and (allegedly) murdered…but in time, everyone forgot about beautiful, tragic Circe.

Everyone but Hermes, who vowed on that day to bring Olympus to its knees.

Now, fifteen years later, a new Zeus rules the city, a new Hades protects his people, a new hope dawns…and Hermes has begun to think there may be things about Olympus worth saving. With Atalanta by her side―and slowly rebuilding her heart―Hermes may finally be ready to set aside her fury and seek the city's rebirth instead of its total annihilation. But there is a beautiful devil on Hermes' other shoulder: a devil who rose, blood-soaked, from where Zeus left her for dead years ago. A devil who has waited all this time to have her revenge.

And no matter their past, no matter the desperate love they once shared, no matter the complicated triad forming between the three women, Circe will not rest until all of Olympus lays shattered at her feet…and the gods help anyone who gets in her way.

A scorchingly hot modern retelling of Hermes and Atalanta and Circe.

*Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.*

*spoilers ahead*

It’s bold and awfully ambitious to tell the last book in the series partially from the perspective of the main antagonist since book 3…and I’m not going to lie, I was skeptical. Don’t get me wrong, I love me a good villain that you end up rooting for, but the events of Tender Cruelty left me wanting more of the Thirteen’s side of the conflict, not Circe, Hermes, and Atalanta’s.
The first three-ish chapters from Circe’s POV had me questioning how and/or why Katee expected me to be rooting for her crazy ass. Like how do you expect me to root for her happiness after she shot my favorite MMC in the series point-blank TWICE?? Girl.
Unfortunately, from there, Circe didn’t really do anything to soften me towards her. Her stubbornness and unwillingness to see that mass murder is *not* the way did not make her a complex character; it just made her a bloodthirsty villain. Her hesitation to kill the legacy family children was too little, too late, in terms of redeeming her character, in my opinion. I wish I would have learned more about her as a person, but her POV only emphasizes what we already know: she’s traumatized by her near-death experience at the hands of a man who is **already dead** and is out for revenge against people she is too blinded by rage to see that her anger is misplaced…..that is it. Even her “charisma” I did not find charming or magnetic. The fact that Hermes and Atalanta both hook up with her because they *simply can’t resist her* had me cringing and rolling my eyes so hard.
There was a lot that needed to happen to wrap this series up, and I did appreciate that the plot far outweighed the spice. I especially enjoyed the interludes from the perspectives of Persephone and Hades to revisit where the story all began, but I kind of wanted more of them. Which tells me that maybe I just did not enjoy the main characters of the final installment. Overall, I feel that the emotion in this story was very surface-level and was over way too quickly to dive deep into any of the three leads. I love having a resolution to the series as a whole, but I’m not totally sure that ending from the villain’s and the antiheroes’ perspectives was entirely successful.
Also, how are you going to mention Hades has a real name but not tell me what it is??????? Diabolical.

I am over the moon over Shattered Gods. This series got me back into reading as an adult. I've followed every book, since the debut of Neon Gods, and what a full circle moment it was to read this book as an ARC! Thank you NetGalley, Sourcebooks Casablanca, and Katee Robert for the ARC.

I can't even put into words how much I love these characters. Hermes, Atalanta, and Circe kept my brain running in circles! OBSESSED to say the least. These ladies stole my heart in completely different ways. Rooting for a villain has always been in my DNA so I couldn't help but fall for Circe, stubborn as she is. Atalanta, while she presents as quiet, has this sass to her that I ate up. And Hermes, ugh, to finally get her story and see things from her perspective brought me so much joy!

I loved the way Katee wrote this entire series. The plot is rich and kept evolving in a way that kept me hooked from book 1. Shattered Gods is no different, the build up of the implosion of Olympus, and the root issues of this society, the rot we could say that spread throughout. Ugh just *chefs kiss* 💋 Feminine rage will always be something I deeply resonate with and this book has it in spades! And the diversity of characters, backgrounds, and lifestyles is something I deeply cherish about this series. 💛

All in all to say, I freaking love this book, this series, and I can't wait to see what Katee does next!

This is an ARC review I am leaving voluntarily and all thoughts are my own.

Thank you SO MUCH Sourcebooks Casablanca!! This series reignited my love of reading, so it's incredibly special to have been chosen to read this early.

I fell in love with Katee and this series immediately, mainly for the inclusion this entire series encapsulates. From sexuality to skin tone and bringing down the patriarchy, this series does it all.

How fitting for this last novel to centre Hermes and her loves.

Katee always writes relatable and realistic romance; third-act break ups and insta-love tropes aren't the main focus, it's communication, trust and soul-deep love. That is the reason their books are some of the only romances I read and actually enjoy. Quite frankly i'm sure i've been spoiled.

This being the end is truly bittersweet, but I cannot wait to see where else Katee takes us. I'm 100% here for the ride.

I'm so mad! I read an entire ten book series for THAT to be the ending?? Are you serious? MAN.

Spoilers after this I suppose! I am so salty that I waited this whole time for Hermes' book only for her to be obsessed with the villain of the entire series. Hermes is all mysterious and sneaky and cool, but her big fatal flaw is that she's in love with Circe.

Interlude here to point out that I would have loved some more magical realism to be involved here. Also, I didn't think it was demeter with the pigs that eat people - wasn't that Circe in the Odyssey after she turned the sailors into pigs? This very strongly felt like Katee just picked a lot of Greek sounding names that were in mythology and then did nothing else with them. Then they were all siblings but not the ones that you'd think should be siblings. Plus there were no actual magical or godlike powers, which was annoying because hello, greek gods? But I digress.

Anyway, Hermes loves Circe, but also Atalanta (whose name I kept reading as Atlanta). Circe doesn't seem to have any redeeming qualities besides being super hot. Atalanta is also super hot, but is attainable, which Hermes doesn't like. So they have to do a whole "will they won't they" song and dance the whole book, instead of actually getting together. Reader, when do you think the first kiss occurs in this "very spicy" book? If you guessed 41% (FORTY ONE) you'd be correct. My goodness don't pmo.

Also, the whole conflict and angry mob gets resolved in one chapter. One! After ten books and promises of a revolution and war, Hermes just asks Zeus and Hades nicely if they'll leave Olympus, and they're like, "oh, yeah, sure." What?!?!?! Are you kidding??? Circe murdered people and everyone's just like oh okay well we're going to have a democracy now. And then there's a chapter where it's basically the constitutional convention. Like oooookay.

There is absolutely no resolution on any of the characters that we've loved throughout the other nine books. They just scatter to the wind throughout the rest of the world and we hear nothing else from them. Anyway, I will be seated for whatever else Katee Robert writes because they're one of my favorite authors, but man. This was a disappointment. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk/Goodreads review rant.

It's ... over?

In July 2021 I picked up Neon Gods, and became obsessed with Katee Robert's writing. As the stories in the Dark Olympus world were released, I would devour them as soon as I got my hands on them. Now it is June 2026, nearly 5 years later, and I have finished Shattered Gods, the last of the Dark Olympus series.

In Shattered Gods we see the end of the tension that has been building over the past 10 books. There has been tension, intrigue, treason, backstabbing, and subterfuge woven into the plot, and now the war is here. Circe has taken Olympus by storm, and has whipped the citizens into a mob that could burst at any point. Hermes is back too - after much backstabbing and evasiveness. Atalanta is a soldier who is ready to take down the regime. The trio all have the same goal of restructuring Olympus- but their plans dont align. And the tension that build between them is a little more charged then they had planned.

I really wasn't sure how this series was going to end - there was so much to wrap up, and so many people to balance. The story unfolds with twists and turns and many plans going awry. But the way it ends is satisfying. I also wasn't sure how the Circe/Hermes/Atalanta relationship would go. Theyre not quite Toxic Yuri... but it is pretty damn close. I loved it.

I cannot believe that the book I picked up about a Hades/Persephone BDSM relationship lead to this series of toppling a corrupt government. 10/10 , will read the series again

So I have read every book in this series and was really excited for this last book to kind of see how it all played out. I have to say I was a little disappointed. All the other books have been spicy and fast paced and allowed you to still really connect with the characters and the interconnection between all of the books. This one was really slow like it took me way longer than it should’ve to finish it, and it was not very spicy at all. So if that’s what you’re going into the book looking for there’s not a ton of that to satisfy the reader. It is nice to see Hecate/Hermes finally finding some peace, but ultimately in all just feel a little flat for me.

Thank you to Sourcebooks Casablanca and author Katee Robert, for providing me with the eARC of “Shattered Gods”.

I will say I recommend this series as an audiobook, hot girl walk and go for the vibes and the spice. Katee is also an auto buy author of mine, not to say that I love all of her books, but she does belong on my shelf with every book.

💭My Thoughts💭
So I know the way I wanted this book to end, but it was not meant to be. And that's okay, cause I didn't write it, I enjoyed it. From book 1 to book 10 I was here to find out what would happen with Olympus and now I know. And to say I'm sad that this journey is over is an understatement.

Going into this book I hate, and to be fair I still do, Circe. She could not be redeemed for me, and that is not to say I didn't understand her anger and resentment. However, she was mad a dead person and taking it out on innocent people who were just as trapped as she was. So her character growth for me, just wasn't fully there. And that's okay cause she's the villain of the story. She really wasn't meant to be a hero in the end. So for that, we accept her as she is.

Which leads me to Atalanta, I'm sorry our sassy girl deserved so much better. Hermes did not treat her well enough. And I know, you're going to argue about it. I don't care, Hermes is just as much the villain as Circe is, and you can't change my mind. I loved this girl, she deserved the world.

Hermes is a villain too. I know at the end she was "helping" but girl you caused all this to happen. Things were changing. As the like to say "Rome was not built in a day". Empires do not fall fast, it takes time. And Olympus was on it's way to change and I was so excited to see where the new generation could have taken it if it wasn't for Hermes and her disaster of a revenge plot.

Now let's talk spice, shockingly this was pretty tame. I wasn't expecting that but I was here for it. The plot for the city needed to be the main attraction for a lot of it so do with that what you will.

I received this ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I’m not ready for this series to be over. I fell in love with Neon Gods and the rest is history.

The plot picks up where Tender Cruelty leaves off, with the barriers down and chaos reigning. Some of the Thirteen have fled the upper city to Hades’s domain and protection and some have foolishly chosen to stay behind. Circe is ruthless in her plans to make the Thirteen pay, and there ARE casualties. We learn a lot about Hermes, Atalanta, and Circe during their POV’s, including some of their motivations. Hermes has an impressive amount of gumption and single-handedly sets a plan in motion to save Olympus. Surprising sacrifices, deaths, and relationships everywhere.

The characters we love and hate are sprinkled throughout (for the most part, some aren’t mentioned). We get an in depth view of Hermes, Atalanta, and Circe, plus we learn a lot about their relationships. Each POV brings us more info and development, and by the end we have a healthy relationship. The development of Circe is wonderful to watch, but all characters do some growing in this book.

The writing style is easy to read and absorb, with descriptions being very straightforward. My favorite thing about KR’s books is how damn inclusive they are. Any kind of relationship, race, or pronoun is included and respected.

My only question is what happened with Hephaestus? Not that it mattered in the grand scheme of things.

I had a great time reading this! 4.5⭐️

The first 35% was AMAZING! Pacing was good, drama was excellent, the stakes were HIGH.

SPOILERS!!!

Spoilers!!

No. Really. SPOILERS AHEAD!!

Then we got to the “I’m going to sleep with her even though I love HER” and the “well I’m upset they slept together so I’m just gonna sleep with her too”…only for literally everything turning into a HEA. Like. WHAT?! 10 books in and all the death and literal destruction and mayhem just for everyone who was left to leave and never come back with their billions and then H-A-C to be off baking cookies and killing corrupt billionaires?

Honestly…just so many missing threads for me to feel this 10 book series could be wrapped up this way.

Dionysus? A brief flicker.

Hephaestus? Mentioned like it was a big deal then never brought up again - no idea what happened to him.

Apollo and Cassandra were so important to evacuate to the Lower City only to never be mentioned beyond that.

Poseidon was just straight peaced out and done with everyone.

Zeus and Hades, the two most hard headed characters, gave up and walked away.

Callisto and Persephone were only ever portrayed as crying or emotional and it always came back to their pregnancies. The two of them are supposed to be brilliant and cunning and too damn smart for their own good. I didn’t like seeing them reduced like this.

I love this series. LOVED Persephone, Callisto, Helen, Eris…but this just seemed a little too HEA for the series to end on.

📚 Oh my gosh, people. This series is, hands down, one of my favorites and Katee Robert has knocked it out of the park with this final story and wrap up of the whole series. Finally knowing who [REDACTED] is has been such a joyful experience. About 100 pages in I was doubting their ability to make it all work, which is MY BAD, because Katee has never once let me down and I’m sorry I doubted the believability of her executing this plot perfectly. Katee is detail oriented and wrapped this series up with a bang. Olympus has fallen and I couldn’t be happier.

🌟 If you like dark romance with lots of spice you’ll need to circle back to Neon Gods and start your journey through Dark Olympus. This 10 book series is now complete and you won’t regret binging it!

Thank you to @NetGalley and @katee_robert for the ARC of this one. I couldn’t put it down!

I‘m so fucking disappointed. I was so happy to see that the final part was published shortly after I continued the series after two years (massive reading slump). But what was that?

- The relationship between the three women was most of the time weird, cringe and unhealthily obsessive.
- It was tried to make us warm up to Circe, but she is a terrible person. Zero sympathy points from me.
- The people, we learned to love through the last books were often acting out of character.
- The end was callously spat at our feet.
- We don’t get to know what life will look for our beloved other characters.

Yes, the book had also great moments and nerve-wracking plot-twists and some funny lines. But in comparison to the rest, for me it didn’t save the book.

I loved the other books. Even the ones with couples I wasn’t so thrilled for were good enough for four stars. But that broke my heart.

Thank you once again to NetGalley and Katee Robert for this ARC in exchange for my honest review...

Welp...

I'm here to report I didn't like this. Sorry. Katee had the MASSIVE task of wrapping up this wondrous series and it was going to be hard no matter what and it was never going to make everyone happy. I will admit part of this was due to my own expectations.

THE PLOT, AS A WHOLE
The first few books establish Olympus as a city-state that is poorly run by a select few (the Thirteen) who have more power than sense or compassion, and many of its citizens are not happy about it. We immediately hear stories of rumors of whispers of murder and dark deeds covered up by those in power, and those in power have SO MUCH power as to be untouchable. The first few books are about a select few individuals fighting their own personal battles against tyranny and abuse of power.

Also, seemingly the worst offender of abuse of power gets killed off in the very first book!

As we continue, we start to hear murmurs of one specific murder that didn't actually stick, and how that not-murdered person is out for revenge against the rulers of Olympus. Throughout the series, little bits of chaos rein, BUT you get the distinct impression that chaos is needed because this system is corrupt anyway.

Finally, the former queen of Olympus steps into the spotlight and begins her own rein of terror, killing and taking over as she goes. You want to feel empathy for how she was treated, but her methods are medieval, PLUS, the person who tried to murder her is long dead! Can you really condone her pillage and murder of the rest of the rulers of Olympus just because of the impotent rage she still feels towards the one who tried to kill her?

THIS PLOT, SPECIFICALLY
In the very beginning, our first MC Persephone is about to be forced to marry Zeus, who everyone is pretty sure murders his wives when he's tired of them. Blah blah blah, yadda yadda yadda, she falls in love with Hades instead and Zeus is killed. Every MC in every book of this series, while they may benefit from inherited wealth or titles, actively tries to do the right thing. With Zeus gone, at least women feel a little safer. Do they still ignore systemic problems? Sure. Do I agree with a coregency? No. Do I want everyone executed in the public square??? Um... No!

As people are actively realizing that real change needs to happen, Circe, a former wife of Zeus who supposedly didn't even survive the honeymoon, is back and trying to take over Olympus. She says she's doing it for the people, to topple the corrupt current form of governance and give Olympus back to the people who do all the work and take all the abuses. Really, she's out for revenge, and I'm not saying she doesn't deserve it, but the Zeus that tried to kill her is dead. She's hell-bent on killing every member of the Thirteen, all their spouses, all their children, all the legacy families, and every heir or any others who might step into a position of power.

Hermes (nee Hecate), the messenger of the Thirteen, is revealed to be Circe's former lover, and while she is also very much opposed to the Thirteen, she does not agree with Circe's methods. She feels she doesn't even know this person anymore. Plus, she has a new bestie, Atalanta, and they both have feelings for each other. Circe must be stopped if Hermes has any chance of her own happily ever after.

BUUUUUUUUUTTTTT....... Hermes can't control herself around Circe... Try as she might, those old feelings of love just won't go away.

THE RESOLUTION
I can't spoil anything but I think you can kind of tell by the above what my thoughts are on the matter. Several members of the Thirteen tried throughout the series to better the circumstances of the normal people who live in the city. Most of them actively DID NOT participate in any of the shady dealings that we hear so much about in the past tense at the beginning of the series. And if Circe's plan goes forward, Persephone will also be killed, along with her unborn babies! And the new Hera and her unborn child, and every other powerful person, even if we know they are inherently good!

I can't get behind this Circe. She has no redeeming qualities beyond being a woman wronged. I have come to know and love these characters BECAUSE OF KR's writing of books 1-9, so, again, this might be my incorrect expectations, but I can't see redemption in someone who wants to kill all my favorite people, and shows very early on that she is willing to follow through on her threats.

So let's just say... I hated the resolution.

Moreover, again, I recognize that I should not judge a book based on my expectations, but what I was hoping for was more resolution with our favorite characters. I get that they had their books and this 10th book was dedicated to Hermes, but the way this series has been built up is that each book literally builds on the last, and no characters exist in bubbles. Persephone and Hades, for example, made a huge first step in destabilizing the corruption in the Thirteen. Eros and Psyche ousted a very problematic member. Helen (Ares), Achilles, and Patroclus were all inherently good and great at their jobs; the Thirteen should be better regulated and the people better protected already.

I was super psyched about a final conflict because of how well it was set up in Tender Cruelty! Hera and Zeus only JUST coalesced into this perfect team! I so wanted to see them break bad together!!

Each subsequent book ate away at a little more of the abuse of power that used to embody the Thirteen. Even the characters that I didn't much care about deserved a check-in! Even with characters that make an appearance, we don't get even a glimpse of how they're faring, how they feel.

HOW I LOVE HERMES
A lot. I can't - and I don't think there's a need to - pull out specific instances. We all just know Hermes has been this delightful thorn in everyone's side through 9 books so far. It was awesome that she finally got her own book, but I just don't think she needed it (even though I most definitely will not complain about finally getting a sapphic romance in the series... did it have to be with Circe???). I think we knew exactly who Hermes was and nothing in this story (about her) surprised me. The series had a resolution, but Hermes' part in it felt like a completely separate thing. As a result, you're pulled in two different directions and neither story line ended up making me happy. I can't say why because both are obviously spoilers.

TL;DR
But, full circle, this takes me back to my expectations: I expected battles, fighting, heroes, explosions!! But no, the name of the game was subterfuge, isolation, destabilization, hiding, one-on-one fighting, sneaking around through tunnels. I got no action, I got no resolution of other story lines, and I didn't like how this story line resolved. I fundamentally disagree with it. I guess as a smut series, my hopes and expectations were too high, but for NINE BOOKS KR DID MORE THAN JUST SMUT! And then - I'm so sorry - this one seemed like they just wanted to get it over with. I wanted badly to give this one 1 star, I just wanted this one to be done. But a bad Katee Robert still beats any other 1-star book I've ever read, and again, she can't be held responsible for my expectations. Thank you, KR for keeping me in a chokehold for TEN BOOKS!! This has been a wild ride and I'm sad it's over. If you ever want to give us follow-ups on how the rest of our favorite characters are doing, I will be first in line!

Huge thanks to NetGalley and Katee Robert for the chance to read Shattered Gods (Dark Olympus, #10). This is my honest review of the ARC.

Tropes you will find in this final book:
– Triad F/F/F relationship
– Second Chance
– Revenge & Redemption
– Plot Twists

Finishing this ten‑book journey feels like closing a chapter of my own life. I’ve lived with these characters for so long that reaching the final page felt almost unreal, like saying goodbye to a group of chaotic, beloved friends who’ve been with me through so many reading moods and seasons (I think this is one of the biggest series I've ever read, but I've been here for all 10 books!).

Of course, I would like to say goodbye to the series separately.
First of all, I want to mention my MOST favorite books in this series, of course they are:

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ "Neon Gods" was such a shocking experience to me in smut that it unraveled smth unhindged in me and thank you, Katee, for that! It was amazing start and mesmerazing shmeksyyyy experience!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ "Electric Idol" because of Eros, hello? Have you seen this man? He's perrrrfect, my first loveeee in the whole series has started exactly here! And Psyche? My girl, she's such a cutie and badass, wanna bite her plump ass, sorry not sorry haha (love thick girliesssssssss) and could relate to so many things about Psyche in the book, goooosh! That was good!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ "Wicked Beauty" is my literally Roman Empire of polyamorous romance of FMM/MMF coz that was DELICIOUS GOOOOOSH! It started my manic obsession with MMF romance in general and inspired so many ideas into my own head for my own books you know? I'm so grateful that I've discovered this and found something new about me that I'm a huge fan of MMF now! Beauty! Delicious! Wow! And Helen??? Her character? I'm unwell, gimme that wife material RN! (lesbian panic sorry!)

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ "Tender Cruelty" coz of Zeus, yeah yeah i know what you are thinking, coz he's sexy blond man? YES HE IS! And he's a protective daddy so.... yes, please. I've been CRAVING him since book 1, so can you blame me? No. But i loved this one as well!

Now, of course, let’s return to the finale — Shattered Gods.

To be honest, I didn’t know who this book would focus on. I had a guess, but I honestly didn’t want it to be Hermes... I’ve had a personal beef with her from the very beginning — she always added fuel to the fire and made everyone’s lives harder (at least from my perspective!). And the whole situation with Circe, and the constant forgiveness over and over again… it was extremely frustrating to read. It made me genuinely angry. Because, let’s be honest, who would enjoy that kind of behavior????
I understand Circe’s anger and her motive to destroy Olympus, but the Zeus who hurt her died a long time ago. So… revenge on whom exactly? He’s gone. Aphrodite didn’t listen to her and maybe deserved some of it, but Eros????????????? EROS??????????????? HELLO?

Further spoilers.

In short, I didn’t fully understand the ending, and that’s why my rating is what it is.

SO OVERALL!
Shattered Gods was a very mixed experience for me. I went into the finale with hope, but the focus on Hermes and her dynamic with Circe and Atalanta didn’t work for me emotionally. Their choices and relationship arcs were frustrating, and I struggled to connect with them throughout the book.

However, there were bright spots, especially the Persephone/Hades POV chapters, which brought back the spark I loved in earlier books. The pacing and ending felt uneven and a bit confusing, leaving me wanting more clarity about Olympus and the overall resolution.

Overall, I really wanted to love this finale, but the character dynamics held me back.
My rating lands around 3–3.5 stars i guess.

Hello, my friends! It is Wednesday, and let me just tell you, I literally squealed with glee when I got the notification yesterday from NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca that I received a copy of Shattered Gods by Katee Robert to review with you all. I absolutely love this reimagining of the gods of Olympus and their relationships, and Shattered Gods is the final book in this epic series. I luckily was just about to finish another read, and I jumped into this story immediately.

This story starts off with Musewatch, a very short recap of books 1 through 9. If you have not read the earlier books, not only do you need to because they are excellent, but you will also be missing too much to fully grasp this book. The story starts right away, and I love that because you should be fully aware of who our characters are by now. This book focuses on Circe’s story, with a brief recap of how she was the wife of the late Zeus, who tried to kill her, but he did not succeed. Now she has a vendetta to enact on the Thirteen, never mind that these Thirteen are not their predecessors. The new Zeus is not as bad as his father, Hades protects the people of the Lower City, and Hermes is more than meets the eye.

Now, normally, I give you some details that happen throughout the first third of the book, but because this story jumps right in and it's the final story, here is my spoiler-free review.

Last we left this story, certain members of the Thirteen were taking refuge in the Lower City as the barrier that once protected Olympus had fallen. Circe is determined to kill the members of the Thirteen, their offspring, and anyone who has a claim to the positions in case of the legacy titles. She wants to give the power to the people of Olympus. Hermes and Atalanta want a new Olympus as well, only they want to do it without the bloodshed. Oh, and did I mention Circe and Hermes were lovers 15 years ago before Zeus forced her into marriage and tried to kill her?

Now Hermes has Atalanta watching her back, and she has feelings for her as well. Hermes also still has some feelings for Circe, the woman who got away. There are growing feelings between the trio, but can Circe give up her vendetta? Will Hermes decide bloodshed is the way to go and get on Circe’s team? And where will Atalanta fall into this trio? All of this is answered in this thrilling final story.

Katee Robert is an excellent writer, and this book is no exception. They have an excellent story with the reimagined lives of the gods of Olympus and their people. These books feature love in all its forms, the politics of the gods, and the games they play, all told in a thrilling story that spans all 10 novels. Whether you are diving into all ten books this summer or you are a longtime fan of the series, this book is a must read. Shattered Gods releases June 2nd from our friends at Sourcebooks Casablanca. Preorder it now, or be first in line at your local bookstore to pick up this book.

I cannot wait to grab the audiobook myself for this book and listen to it when it is ultimately released. Also, for all you Kindle Unlimited subscribers, books 1 through 8 are available in KU for free, so now is a great time to reread them if you do not own them already.

Until next time, my friends, I wish you nothing but 5 star reads! Happy Reading.

Read the full review with representation information and trigger warnings on my blog.

Circe has arrived in and taken over Olympus, and Atalanta and Hermes failed in their attempts to topple the Thirteen without creating an anarchy or fascism to take their place. The three women are on opposite sides of the conflict, but Circe and Hermes were once lovers before Circe was nearly killed, and it’s hard to shake that, even after all these years.

I really enjoyed this book. Yes, it is from the POV of villains and anti-heroes, but none of the POV characters in the Dark Olympus series so far have been anything but morally grey. I think it was a reasonable decision for Katee Robert to have the final book be from Circe and her love interests’ POVs. Circe was a compelling character and it was easy to sympathize with how she wanted to destroy Olympus because of the lesbophobia from the previous Zeus, and how nobody stood up to him. Although they are more or less opposed to all of the previous characters in the series, it still fits with the overall morally grey/dark romance-adjacent tone of the series.

If you want to continue reading about the glitz and glamor of the rich and powerful in Olympus and don’t like reading about Olympus falling, though, I would recommend skipping this book. You will not find much glamor in this one; it’s different in tone from a lot of the other books. Robert said in the acknowledgements that she was inspired by Heavenly Tyrant by Xiran Jay Zhao, and I can see the inspiration in Shattered Gods. There’s enemies-to-lovers action in this one, but the political aspects of the novel are about equally as significant. It is a very spicy book with many sex scenes, but I’m not sure I’d classify this book in the erotica genre unlike a lot of Roberts’ other books.

Not all of the characters in Shattered Gods get a happy ending, but the ending was still satisfying. The whole novel was somewhat less violent than I was expecting, ironically. The interlude chapters from some of the characters among the Thirteen who were POV characters in previous books are helpful with tying everything together plot-wise, and don’t feel extraneous due to them having been main characters from previous books. The plot was wrapped up well, but I’d still enjoy reading shorts from other characters in the series after the end like how Roberts has previously released a Dark Olympus Shorts Volume 1 book, which implies there could be more later.

Shattered Gods is available now from Sourcebooks Casablanca. Thank you to NetGalley, Sourcebooks Casablanca and Katee Robert for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

Thank you NetGalley, sourcebooks Casablanca and Katee Robert for letting me read this in exchange for an honest review.

(This review is probably not spoiler free)

Katee why would you do this to us😭 this book is such an emotional rollercoaster. It was also more plot heavy instead of focused on the characters which the previous books were. I did kind of miss connecting with the characters on that deeper level, but this had to happen for the final installment of this series.

I was really intrigued by getting to read the pov of the “villain” of the book, who has been setting this up since the third book. I can’t say I was rooting for Circe, I knew she wouldn’t be killed at least in the beginning/middle of the book, especially since she was one of the love interests, but I was still kind of hoping for it. Especially after she shot someone in the chest *twice*. I was absolutely in denial about it because there’s no way he could be dead, right?? But katee did talk about killing off someone important in the acknowledgments of the last book, so I guess it was mental breakdown o’clock.

Hermes and Atalanta were a very interesting duo to read about. Clearly both in love with each other, but stuck in the will they won’t they phase. I did really love their dynamic with knowing each other that well, they could read things of each other’s faces and knew when the other one was lying.

I understood Hermes relationship with Circe because there’s was so much history between them. Atalanta and Circe I did not really get. One day they’re trying to kill each other and the next day they’re fucking. Was it revenge? Was it just lust? Who knows.

I loved the hades and Persephone interludes and kind of wished we got to see more of them and other characters from the previous books. I wanted to know their thoughts and feelings on what was happening.

The ending was very bittersweet for me. I absolutely HATED what had to happen for them to get a resolution. But I am happy there was a resolution where not everyone had to die. Even tho it felt a little anticlimactic because I expected this big boss fight and it ended up being a relatively calm solution after everything happened. I also really want to know what happened to the thirteen. We know where Circe, Hermes and Atalanta settled. But where did the rest go??? Are the Dimitriou sisters staying together? Is the Kasios family going to reunite with their brother in the wicked villains city? What is everyone going to do with their lives, are they getting normal jobs and living a normal life??? We will never know😔

Rip [redacted] you will be missed 3

Shattered Gods is the tenth and last instalment of the Dark Olympus series, a series which I have adored. This book was a bit of an interesting one for me, as I really didn't like two of its three main characters, regardless of this, I still found enjoyment in the book and finishing off the series.

In the earlier books, I liked Hermes. I liked the way she showed up undetected and was incredibly witty, at one point maybe two or three books in, I said I would enjoy a book that was just Hermes and Dionysus breaking into the rest of the Thirteens houses and eating everything out of their fridges. But then Midnight Ruin happened, Hermes gave me the ick, and unfortunately it never went away. I did appreciate the attempts to redeem her character through her actions. I found Circe rather unredeemable, after her actions towards one of my favourite characters in the whole series relatively early on in this book, combined with her actions in the past books. I understood her motivation, but after having insights into most of the Thirteen and their inner circle in their own books, I wasn't able to sympathise with her as much as I ought to. I did really like Atalanta's character though, her chapters were insightful and engaging. As a result, I vibed with the overall interactions with the wider cast of characters then the actual romantic elements of the story.

The highlight of this book for me was the chapters from points of view outside the main triad of this story, I felt like it tied the series together really well and brought everything full circle (that accompanied with the fact that the burning throne on the front cover was like an inverted version of the cover of the first book in the series, fun and clever). As always with the Dark Olympus series, I enjoyed the diversity of characters throughout and appreciate Katee Robert's' descriptions. It's refreshing when picturing characters to just outright be told the skin colour, gender identity and stature of different characters.

This book tied together a lot of storyline's, I liked how Hermes and Dionysus were able to have a moment to repair their friendship. I do wish there was an extended epilogue with a bit more closure on the fate of the other characters, but I found it to be a very fitting end to the series as a whole.

Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks for giving me the opportunity to read these books in exchange for an honest review, these thoughts and interpretations are all my own.

Really negative review incoming… :(

I am disappointed in the ending of this ten book series. This book felt lazy and rushed, like she just wanted it to be done and over. I’m sure it must be hard to end a long series like this and try to wrap everything up the best you can, but this was just not it.

Circe had no redeeming qualities. She was traumatized by a Zeus who was already dead! And then she made it everyone else’s problem!! Killing so many people and even in the epilogue wanted to continue to kill people to get her way. It was ridiculous. And it made me not like Hermes or Atalanta in the end because why did they even like Circe?? “Oh she’s so beautiful” blah blah blah. YALL DESERVE BETTER THAN SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO KILL EVERYONE YOU CARE ABOUT.

The Thirteen dismantling the way they did and having Olympus form a new government was … whatever. For all that build up throughout all the books, the mystery of Hermes’ backstory … I expected better. All the major character deaths took me right out of the story too. And you’re telling me everyone just walks away from everything?? Goes their separate ways?

I’ve been dying for Hermes’ book for so long, and she was so mysterious and strong in the other books. I hated how she acted in this one. You’re telling me that Hermes would sleep with someone directly after she thought they killed her friend?? After she’s been spending years trying to figure out how to dismantle the Thirteen without anyone dying? No. No way. I almost DNF’ed at that point.

Atalanta was the only one I semi liked. She deserved better than Hermes going and sleeping with Circe right as she was recovering from a fatal stab wound that Circe gave her! Again - why are these women allowing women into their beds that have hurt them?

No redeeming qualities. All mess. Really disappointing.

Genuinely, the only thing I liked about this book was that we got to see a lot of people from the past books. I love Kate’s Robert and her books, but I can’t get behind this one, which is really sad because I wanted to love the F/F/F pairing.

Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to ARC read in exchange for an honest review!

Title: Shattered Gods-Dark Olympus #10

Author: Katee Robert-I've read every book in the series

Publication date: 6-2-26 | Read: 6-1-26

Format: e-Book 352 pgs.

Genre:
*LGBTQIA
+*Fantasy
*Romance

Tropes
*mythology retelling
*revenge
*love triangle
*sapphic romance

POV: 1st person-multiple POVs

TW: grief, S/A and physical abuse(past), murder, war, pregnancy

Setting: Olympus

Summary: Circe has finally arrived and taken over the upper city of Olympus with the people on her side. Hermes wanted the Thirteen dismantled, yet she has made friends and doesn't want any casualties. Atalanta is Hermes best friend that she starts having feelings for knowing about Hermes and Circe's past together. One way or another the Thirteen will be gone with violence and death, or peaceful retreat.

Heroine: Hermes/Hecate-was in love w/ Circe

Heroine: Atalanta-Hermes closest friend and right hand

Heroine: Circe- Queen of Olympus 15 yrs. ago, kidnapped and married to old Zeus, and left for dead after he drowned her

Other Characters
* Demeter-an ally to Circe w/ the condition of keeping her daughters safe-Persephone, Eurydice, Psyche
* Hades-offers sanctuary in the lower city to the Thirteen and legacy families
* Antigone-Circe's right hand

My Thoughts: Hermes's story has been building every book and we finally got it! Her and Circe's chemistry was electric, and they didn't spare much time before hooking up again. I felt for Atalanta who was friend-zoned by Hermes believing they both had feelings for each other. I loved seeing all the couples reunited even though we lost a few stray gods and goddesses. I'd recommend reading all the previous books to get the full payoff of this series.

Rating: 3.5/5
Spice level:5/5

Thanks to NetGalley, Sourcebooks Casablanca, and Katee Robert for this ARC! I voluntarily give my honest review, and all opinions are my own.

I'm willing to suspend disbelief for almost anything if a book serves up a great romance.

Unfortunately, not for a single moment could I believe that Circe and Atalanta This should have been a hinge relationship, with Hecate seeing both of them separately, and the two of them not having a relationship with each other.

What I find odd about this failed romance is that Katee Robert has already written a better version of this triad relationship. Midnight Ruin has the exact same dynamic where one person (Orpheus) deeply hurt another (Eurydice), and a third person now wants to connect with her (Charon) but her broken heart prevents her from being fully available. Then when Orpheus genuinely repents, he's gradually redeemed to her over the course of the story, while also meaningfully connecting with Charon to form a stable and healthy triad.

Midnight Ruin is just... strictly better? It does exactly what Shattered Gods tries and fails to do. (And the sex was better too lol)

As a footnote: outside of the weaker relationship stuff in Shattered Gods, it's also insane that Circe got away scot-free for

Thank you to NetGalley for giving me an eARC of Shattered Gods by Katee Robert!

I've been reading this series since the first book, Neon Gods, came out. Its one of two books that got me back into reading after losing my love for it. So to say this series changed a lot for me, was a huge understatement. I'm gonna be honest when I say, I was not ready for this series to end. I have loved every story of each God and Goddess, and even more loved the underlying story within the books. So, here's what I thought of the final installment of the Dark Olympus series.

From here on out, there will be spoilers throughout my review. You have been warned.

If anything Greek Mythology is what you enjoy reading, not only do I recommend this book, but the entire series. Every book will take you on a roller coaster of emotions. I cannot wait to see what Katee Robert has next (part of me hopes for a novella to see where each member of the thirteen went, and how their lives have changed).

📖BOOK REVIEW📖 ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Thank you to @netgalley and @sourcebookscasa for the opportunity to read this early.

I have been eagerly anticipating this book for ages, as soon as I knew we were ending on 10 and it had to do with Hermes, I WAS INVESTED.

Hermes is one of those characters that in the early stages of the series they are there, slightly, vaguely. You like them, they are intriguing and you want to know more but it sort of slips from your mind like smoke as each book progresses.

These last few books have really shown what a dynamic and well thought out character she is, even from the very beginning of the series, that Katee Robert was playing THE LONGEST DAMN GAME with all of us but it was satisfying to watch.

I don't want to get to spoilery for those that may not be aware of the players in this book but it's sapphic, it's hot, there is longing and yearning and pining and magnetism. But it all takes a backseat to the final downfall of Olympus. The over arching story that has taken us from Neon Gods to now.

I'm very happy with this ending, it was the conclusion I wanted, it was the conclusion that was needed. But ultimately I feel just ever so slightly let down. One death was highly telegraphed, Dionysus is essentially a MacGuffin in this story (and they are SO COMPELLING when we get them at all, I just hoped for more of them here). Overall, if you've been paying even the slightest attention to the ongoing saga, this ending was pretty predictable.

But that doesn't mean it wasn't enjoyable or worth reading. It was a good conclusion to a truly fabulous series.

4⭐ This book is not a standalone. You really have to read this series in order because every book starts where the previous one ends. Overall the Dark Olympus series is one that will occupy a corner of my brain for quite some time. I recommend that you binge read this series. I found it daring and titillating. And often even before I was finished the current book in my hand, I was aching to read the next. Overall for this series, I give it 4.5 amazing ⭐s!

This is the final book in Katee Robert’s Dark Olympus series. As much as it was highly anticipated for me, this was my least favorite of the 10 book series. Maybe it’s because I was expecting a huge gasping, twisty finish. That said, the first 9 books were either 4.5 or 5 stars, for me.

In the previous books, Hermes and Atalanta are together, but we get hints of Hermes’ still pining over Circe 15 years later. I secretly hoped that Atalanta would have been enough for Hermes, because I don’t like Circe’s character and the fact that she seems careless with people’s lives. I wish I could tell you more but I don’t want to spoil it for anybody.

Those of you looking for a happy ending, even for the protagonist, then I think you’ll love this book. Personally, I am less forgiving of Circe.

I am still a huge fan of Katee Robert’s. I love that she’s not afraid to write what she wants, and present us with characters that are broadly represented, everything from M/F, M/M, F/F, M/F/M, M/M/F, she, he, they, them and everything in between.

Thank you Katee Robert, Sourcebooks and NetGalley for this ARC. The above is my own and personal opinion.

A TRIUMPHANT FINALE!!

Shattered Gods by Katee Robert feels like the payoff of something that’s been building for ten full books, and you can feel that weight on every single page. Every plot thread, every whispered scheme, every shifting alliance. It all converges here into an epic showdown that absolutely delivers. There’s this sense of inevitability to it, like everything has been quietly marching toward this exact moment, and Robert leans all the way in. The scope is bigger, the stakes are higher, and the story unapologetically prioritizes the plot in a way that makes everything feel urgent and explosive. There are no punches pulled. Bodies WILL hit the floor. And I hope readers are excited to dive into and discover the last magic in this series.

That said, the characters still bring the heat, especially Hermes, who is such a fascinating, chaotic web‑weaver of a character. They’re constantly pulling strings, trying to hold everything together and save everyone, and because of that, their love story does take a bit of a backseat at times. But honestly, it works for this installment. And let’s be real, this is Katee Robert, so the spice still absolutely delivers when it hits. I also loved how Atalanta steps in as the emotional glue, grounding the trio and making their dynamic feel cohesive and earned. Circe is this rough and tough character who has her REASONS for all of her actions. Is she misguided? Maybe. Is she going to claim her revenge regardless? You bet. This book is messy, dramatic, plot‑heavy chaos in the best way, and it feels like a massive, satisfying culmination of everything that’s come before.

Quick Summary: The end is near! Olympus has fallen. What is going to come of it?

The ending of this book was satisfying due to everyone getting somewhat of a happy ever after and getting to be with who they want to be in the end. I did enjoy reading the plot of this book as it continued to build throughout each book, and it was interesting to see how it all came to an end and what happened to Olympus.

This book was a bit hard to rate due to enjoying how the series came to an end, but struggling to connect with the three characters it was about (Hermes, Atalanta, and Cierce). All of them had different ideas for Olympus, but disagreed on how to get there. They were stubborn and didn't see eye to eye, which made the spicy scenes seem forced. With three of these characters fighting throughout most of the book, it felt repetitive, which made the book seem boring. I felt like the story dragged, and I found myself just wanting the story to be over. While I might be somewhat disappointed in this book, and it seems like I didn't enjoy it, I really did! I enjoyed the interlude with the other characters and getting glimpses of other characters that had their own books. Those were so much fun to read and made me sad that this is the last book in this series, and I won't be able to step foot in this universe again.

As always, please read the triggers before reading the book!

Thank you to Sourcebooks Casablanca, Katee Robert and Netgalley for an eARC in exchange for an honest review. I would also like to thank this team for providing arcs for most of this series. I am forever grateful for the opportunity!

Hi !

First of all Thank you NetGalley ,Sourcebooks and ofcourse KR for making me part of the ARC reviewing team for Shattered gods

Had has been a pleasure reading the closing book of this series .
I must say that I have had some time a part between the earlier books from the dark Olympus serie so inwas happy to read a little catch up to remind me what happens in the books before shattered gods .
If I wouldn’t had the opportunity to read that I don’t think the book would have catched on so quick !
I strongly recommend reading the series in order to understand what’s happening.

I started this series for Hades and Persephone I loved that duo in every book I have read so far . I was interested for more and here we are book 10 !
but I am not gonna lie I was filled with every emotion to find. The love story’s , the hate , the grief .every feeling to feel I felt .
All the story’s coming together . Some ending some continued. With clear and no clear endings
Personally I hoped for other characters to fill the lead roles but was happy that they have some interludes . Hermes was never a favorite and Circe made me hate her especially by shooting people who didn’t needed to be shot . I was hoping for a firework ending but o well we can’t have all wat we wanted
Some parts of the books felt very rushed and some parts felt dragging . I couldn’t finish the book in one sitting wich is quite rare for me ! Still I enjoyed the book over all

Thropes:
Enemies to lovers
Second change
Revenge
Queer / poly
And a couple more
