Chansol never experienced friendship before he met Park Hanhoo, a troubled boy who terrifies school gangs and hides his face with an unruly haircut. But when a horrific event turns Chansol's world upside down, he is forced into hiding and reneges on his promise to stay by Hanhoo's side. Now an adult, he’s back to resolve old issues, but with the truth about his past hidden behind a world of mafia bosses and shady business, his only option is to infiltrate it as the manager of an unhinged arms dealer. As Chansol sets out to coax information out of his new boss, he realizes that seducing this handsome maniac may just bring him closer to the truth and the friend he used to call Park Hanhoo.
This is excellent. The art is simple, but is still expressive when it needs to be. The story has a good number of twists and turns without ever losing the main thread. It also successfully manages to do a couple of things at once with initial backstory of their time at high school, then the medium-term enemies to lovers/mistaken identity plotline, and then the catching a serial killer finale.
The characters are complex and interesting, and the development of their relationship is a very satisfying slow burn. Park Hanhoo is a lovable maniac in the sense that you would never actually want to meet him in real life. But he makes for a very fun character. Ditto Baek Chansol. He's clearly kind and self-sacrificing, but he's not a doormat. The subtleties to both characters are very well done.
Overall, I was really impressed. The little flashes of humour are an added bonus, but probably necessary to balance out the angsty story.
There were times this story made me cry (I'm just more sensitive ig). The couple was cute and has some nice chemistry, but still, I kinda need more of that. The story's art is very minimalistic, though it's still good. More on modern vibe with slowburn romance.
ok, the August thing was waaaaay different that i envisioned but it worked i just wished we had more time with them as a couple, we barely had any the banter never left 🤣 and it was great
