My Bias Is Showing?! #1

최애가 나타났다?! 1

Rate this book
When high school teacher Na Aejoon shows up for work on an ordinary day, he never expects to bump into his favorite celebrity in the hallway. But when his school becomes a filming location for a show starring Choi Siyeol, his bias from the idol group A-One, that's exactly what happens! If that's not enough to give a fanboy a heart attack, Siyeol takes an interest in Aejoon and asks him to join the show as his "co-teacher." Desperate to keep his fan life a secret, Aejoon is forced to put his acting skills to the test, and not just on camera. But as he spends more and more time with Siyeol, the deception becomes harder to keep up. Not to mention, he might not be the only one keeping secrets…

i honestly don’t know how i feel about this manhwa yet. love the art style & surprisingly finding the central misunderstanding to be more entertaining than annoying but i’m not super on board with their relationship yet

but! it’s cute & silly enough that i’m invested enough to stick around for the next volume

This was 5 stars until I got to the twist, which I still haven't made up my mind about.

The art is lovely. Very engaging, super attractive characters, great dynamic paneling. It's funny without being over-the-top ridiculous. The reveal that Aejoon's relative is an idol in the same group as his bias, Siyeol, made his obsession more grounded somehow.

Yeah, he's still obsessive, but in a fairly normal sort of way. He likes Siyeol a lot, and he probably knows about him mostly by following his relative's career path, since they're pretty close. So he doesn't really have unrealistic expectations for Siyeol, or any idea that he might ever get to know him or be anything special to him. While he asks his relative for a signature (which he keeps being denied), all he really wants is to meet Siyeol one time, get a photo with him, and maybe see him sing live. That's it.

He does have dirty dreams about Siyeol, but he's human and he feels kind of bad about it, and it's not real, anyway.

Then Siyeol shows up at the school where Aejoon works, and it turns out that not only is he filming a variety show there, he chose Aejoon to be his teacher coworker...

And he keeps trying to spend time with Aejoon and saying incredibly weird things to him...

I was under the impression that Siyeol had met Aejoon at some point in the past, without Aejoon realizing it was him, and had formed an interest in him at that stage. Or maybe he knew that Aejoon was his Kyusung's relative, and was being playful with him because Aejoon was trying to be so secretive about it.

It's...a little bit of both? But also neither.

Siyeol had run into Aejoon, and Aejoon had smacked him with his bag and run away because he'd thought Siyeol was trying to kidnap his cute little nephew. But from there, it all gets kind of unhinged.

It turns out Kyusung had been dating their fifth group member, who'd quit and had eventually broken up with him. When that guy meets up with Siyeol, he tells him he'd thought Kyusung might've already started seeing someone else. (This is implied later to just be Kyusung making cutesy faces at his little nephew (?) over the phone.)

I didn't quite understand Siyeol's reaction at this point...he says something, blushingly, about how it "might be his chance" if they've really broken up now. I couldn't tell at first which of them he had a crush on, but since he sets out to try to ruin Kyusung's "new relationship," I guess maybe he'd liked the other guy? But isn't bothering to y'know, tell him. Or ask him out.

Instead, he engages in this elaborate plan to seduce the guy Kyusung had been cheating with, then rub it in Kyusung's face so he feels as hurt as his ex had been at their breakup.

Siyeol sees Aejoon on Kyusung's video call, then makes the connection with the guy who'd smacked him in the face, and goes hunting in the bag he'd left behind. That's how he finds out that the "other man" is a teacher who happens to work at the school of the variety show he'd been steadily declining.

So of course it's a perfect opportunity to get to know him and ruin his life.

Even before the reveal, it was pretty obvious that Siyeol was faking his extreme interest, but I really hadn't expected it to go into straight up manipulative territory. Plus, the first time they have sex, Aejoon is very drunk and doesn't remember most of the night - other than just assuming it'd been one of his regular horny dreams.

I don't love scenes like that, but it actually kind of works in the context of this story. And while Siyeol was definitely still in his seduce-and-discard mission, he had no idea Aejoon was that unaware of what he was doing. (He figures Aejoon was just playing it cool afterward about now being the cheater.)

The whole thing's a big mess. Especially because Siyeol, after a lot of effort, manages to actually get Aejoon to sleep with him when he's fully aware of what's going on, and they presumably start up a relationship from there. With Aejoon having no idea about all his hidden motivations.

I shouldn't like it...but it's actually weirdly interesting? Siyeol is kind of a disaster, and there's a part of him that thinks he's just getting revenge on a trash person...while under the assumption that Aejoon is the kind of guy who wouldn't take any of this too seriously. He's not really trying to hurt him, just Kyusung, or at least that's the impression so far.

I am interested to see what happens once he starts really getting to know Aejoon and falling for him, and realizing that he royally destroyed the entire beginning of their relationship. Will the redemption arc be worth the mess? I don't know. But for now, I think I want to keep going.

only found out about this story being a manhwa a few months after watching the web drama, and not gonna lie, i expected it to be just as pure and lovely as the drama 😅 did not appreciate the proof of the physical book’s shrink-wrapping-necessity slapping me in the face immediately. i am but a little lamb. however, the story overall is engaging to an extent. siyeol is quite toxic ngl but aejoon has my heart. he’s just trying. and fanboying. and trying.

i may have rated a little harshly, but this is because i personally was not a huge fan of the pacing, overly convenient reliance on coincidences to move along plot, lack of character growth, insufficient revisiting of background characters despite their stories holding weight in the main plot… overall these are typical for most p*** with plot stories right? it was a shame that i had to flip through a good deal of the book to escape spicy scenes but seeing the differences between the drama and the webcomic intrigued me enough to make me want to pick up the next book in the future 🤔

in conclusion: a solid 2/5 on story quality, 5/5 on art, and 3/5 in my heart~

3.25?

idk if it's cheating to say i read this since the physical version is not published yet but i read it online.

i saw this was a bl drama before i knew it was a webtoon/manga. however i havent started watching it yet.

anyways the miscommunication trope makes me crazy. i dont like it. maybe just because of like my own views irl, i think communication is so important even if its something small. and yes i know it's fiction it's for entertainment. but man.

siyeol over reacts easily, and like ofc he cared about his friend/group member (cause its not a band but idk what else to call them?) - but the way he goes about it is wild. like he was only interested in aejoon at first for something he misconstrued and made up in his head so he could get revenge.

and they first time they have sex aejoon was really drunk and doesnt even remember right away what happened.- like yes there is consent later on in it, but why does so much bl/manga have dubious consent. or characters are drunk? i really need to find more that is less so of that.

they were both a little over the top. but aejoon was funny cause all the merch and posters he had in his room. and shows how people can be irl if you get a chance to meet someone you idolize.

anyways ill probably reread this later on once its published idk if there will be any differences. so if i remember ill update this review later

Me gustó ❤️

There's a saying that you should never meet your idols - and this is a story that proves the point. I'm conflicted on this one. The story isn't bad and I really like Aejoon (and I feel really bad for him), but Siyeol is a terrible person. Aejoon's funny attempt at self-deprecation when he tells Siyeol he has "too much free time" is right on point. Only someone with a terrible personality and too much time would do what he does. It's pretty clear where the story is going to go, given the genre and the nature of the story, but my only reason to continue would be to see Siyeol get metaphorically gut-punched (not that I'd mind seeing it literally either) and fall flat on his face. And, more importantly, to see Aejoon get what he actually deserves, rather than ending up with Siyeol. But that's because I can't get behind these kinds of romances. If you don't mind that kind of dynamic in your stories, it's definitely worth continuing. I am very invested in Aejoon's character, so even though I hate Siyeol, I might actually continue because of Aejoon. Though I am a little disappointed that it wasn't the fluffy read I was expecting. In any case, 5 stars for Aejoon, 1 star for Siyeol, so I landed in the middle.

I have exceptionally mixed feelings about this. I'm not a huge fan of stories that rely entirely on convenient misunderstandings, and the one in this annoyed me quite a bit. I also feel like many things were under explained. How is the MC related to the idol guy? Why does he have a relative in this band but has never met the other members? And what is the backstory behind Siyeol that he feels the need to go to such lengths to fuck with these people? I assume these things will probably (hopefully) get better explained at a later time, but I think it would have been nice to do so earlier. I also found Siyeol pretty wholly unlikable, although I also assume he will have growth. But despite those complaints, I still had some fun with this and will probably be reading future ones.

The plot is one likes the other and the other guy thinks he’s cheating on a partner who cheated previously on another friend. It’s all misunderstandings and fake interest with the guise of a teacher and student relationship in a show pushed into the realm of the real world. Not for me story wise but the art was amazing and characters were cool

Curse you censorship! This is such a cute story!
Our teacher, Na Aejoon, has a chance people would die for! Meeting his bias and even working with him! Problem? He doesn't want Choi Siyeol to know how obsessed he is! What Aejoon doesn't know is that Siyeol has his own motives and secrets. Will they end up together or will their secrets pull them apart?

2.75 in real but I'll round up to be nice

Had a lot of mixed feelings by the end. It’s an easy read to turn your mind off and scroll through, but I ended up getting mad a lot on Na Aejoon's behalf.

Choi Siyeol is like if Lu Guang and Izumi Sena had an evil kid who is just full of himself and thinks his dick is the dickest dick to ever dick

What I expected in a BL, nothing too crazy but there is an interesting story... Though per usual it's because nobody outright talks to the other person about the issue. Also pretty spicy right out the gate with this one

This skews a bit on the mean side for me, plus its central problem could be resolved with one (1) conversation between the leads. Not sure what to make of it.

Love this manwha! Love the TV show. It's all so cute. I mean the big big misunderstanding is a little nerve-wracking but it's so good. I would totally recommend reading this and watching the show!
