An unpleasant newcomer to Camden-sur-Mer resort checks out sooner than she intended....
It was the considered view of the elderly residents at the posh retirement community on the California coast that the stabbing death of Mrs. Amy Kinseth (only six weeks after her arrival) occasioned no great loss. There'd be no more of her tasteless display of jewelry, no more overtures of friendship suddenly withdrawn, no more doors slammed in other people's faces.
For Angela and Caledonia, live-wire veterans of an earlier murder investigation at Camden, the case offers a glorious opportunity to have some fun as they help their handsome detective friend, Lieutenant Martinez, with a bit of on-site snooping. It's soon excitingly clear that awful Amy had indeed been up to something fishy. And with the killer still on the scene, intrepid Angela may be the next victim....
Corrine Holt Sawyer is the author of the Angela Benbow and Caledonia Wingate mystery series. Angela and Caledonia are "women of a certain age" living in the upscale retirement community of Camden-sur-Mer. Mystery and mayhem seem to follow the "retiring" women all over Southern California. The author of this bestselling mystery series was born in Minnesota and received her BA from the University of Minnesota in 1945. She moved to the south to attend the University of Birmingham where she received her PHD in 1954. Dr. Sawyer worked for many years in Radio and Television, teaching, writing and while at WNCT-TV in Greenville (NC), serving as director of broadcasting. In 1966, she moved from North Carolina to South Carolina, where for many years she taught English at Clemson University. Corrine Holt Sawyer continues to write the Angela and Caledonia mystery series.
Angela and Caldonia are in the middle of a murder that happened in their Retirement Home ---this time the police department gives them a couple chores to do to supposedly help them but in actuality ---to keep THEM out of the whole case! Just leaving a glorious opportunity to have fun and relieve the boredom of the Retirement Home and, Angela almost gets killed -------I thought it a well-plotted, well-written story including wisdom and humor! So, off to Border’s to get some more!
Angela Benbow, 5 foot tall, a bit tubby, a little flirty and a rich Admiral's widow along with her friend Caledonia Wingate, a gigantic woman with a booming voice who wears nothing but large caftans, and is also very rich Admiral's widow are back in this second mystery by Corinne Holt Sawyer. They are both residents at Camden-sur-Mer, a retirement center located on the California coast. The murder victim this time is a resident that only recently moved into the center and was not well liked by anyone. Angela and Caledonia decide they can be of great help to Inspector Martinez in solving the murder and end up in a lot of trouble. I even smile while writing my review because this series is so much fun. It's a good mystery with wonderful characters.
