I am a computer guy with a love for outdoor activities.
When I started writing Backlash, I wanted to write a book that I would want to read. Which worked out well because I had to read it a number of times before I was done. My goal was to produce a fast paced adventure that was easy to read--focusing on the story rather than a bunch of fancy words. I don't know fancy words.
An amazingly enjoyable first novel from D.L.Thomas! Think Indiana Jones,Dirk Pitt,Doc Savage with MacGyver thrown in for good measure and you have Quinn Lewis! Buckle up your seatbelts because you are in for a wild ride!! Kept me very interested from start to finish.
Our hero Quinn Lewis, a solutions engineer who is a master at finding a solution to even the most difficult situation. Added to his crew were Jennifer Gonzalez, Scott Miller, Pierre Dubois and Samantha Sinclair - experts in their fields. And the instigator of the entire treasure hunt, Michael Stonewood and his bodyguard Craig were also along for the ride and what a ride it was!
This is a fast-paced adventure that grabs hold of you on the first page and doesn't let go until the final word. I read this in one sitting and honestly couldn't put it down. This would make a terrific action movie that kids and adults would enjoy.
An underground rollercoaster ride of an adventure read
Wow...simply wow! This is a book that grabbed me from the very first page, as protagonist Quinn Lewis was competing in an uber-exciting endurance race, to the very last page - and no, I won't tell you what happens there.
This is a treasure hunting adventure story with scuba diving, spelunking and rock climbing all thrown together in a rowdy, in-your-face tale. I am claustrophobic so the underground scenes, which entailed most of the book, caused a few sickening swirls in my stomach but that didn't stop me from turning the pages and forging on along with Quinn Lewis.
Oh, and Quinn Lewis - what a hero. Many reviewers have compared him to MacGyver and that is unavoidable. The man is a solution engineer that really uses everything in his possession to find answers to problems that crop up. He is on this Idaho adventure with a cave diver, an archaeologist, a demolitions expert and others.
If you like non-stop action with some chills and thrills thrown in, try out this debut author. I sure hope I see more stories - soon - by Thomas.
Backlash By D.L Thomas *** Typically one thinks of an adventure book like Backlash by D.L Thomas as one of those guy books that will bore a female to tears. However, I can say for this female that it certainly was a great book and kept me on my toes the entire time wondering what the dwindling group of adventurers would encounter next. Michael Stonewood has hired a group of adventurers, all experts in their own fields, to assist him in finding some treasure his Uncle Pete had searched for years ago. It would take a cave diver, a mining expert, two bodyguards, Stonewood himself, an aging archeologist, a mountaineer, and an all-around MacGyver type to attempt this task with little to no information as to what they were up against, Uncle Pete’s treasure is the goal as eight head out down Snake River. Not even having begun their adventure, danger lurks around the bend and they race is off. No one knows really who they’re working for or against for that matter. All they know is that now they’re trapped and they’re a team who has only one another to lean on in order to get out of this predicament Mr. Stonewood has gotten them all in.
Our main protagonist on this treasure hunt Is Quinn Lewis, the MacGyver typed aforementioned. I swear the man could build a bomb out of a tampon and a paperclip. He’s the problem solving type and every time they encounter a situation on their great adventure, even if it’s not a part of his repertoire, he assists whoever is handling it to make it work.
The adventurers enter a world similar to those I’ve seen in movies such as Goonies, National Treasure, and the Indiana Jones franchise. They encounter impossible obstacles, booby-traps, and are running from an unknown antagonist. As their numbers dwindle, no one has a care in the world other than escaping their current predicament. When they finally escape, they’re finally met head-to-head with those that have hunted them since the beginning.
Will they make it out of the situation alive? Will any other them live to tell the tale of Uncle Pete’s treasure? You’ll have to read and find out. It’s a definite can’t-put-down-book. With some mild violence D.L Thomas’ Backlash will take you along on quite the adventure.
Well I stumbled across this book with a little guidance from the author and am I glad I did!
This is an absolute roller coaster ride from the first to last page..and you can’t stop turning them until you reach that last one and its not an anti climax. This story is about a treasure hunt and a team put together by a millionaire business man. The majority of it is spent underground scuba diving and rock climbing and following the clues to an ancient riddle all the while battling the odds and trying to evade a team of mercenaries hell bent on stopping them. The protagonist Quinn Lewis is an amazing hero who a lot of reviewers have compared to MacGyver which is understandable as he has utilise anything and everything to complete the task ahead of him and I will say that some of the things he comes up with are truly amazing.
A great read and I am totally looking forward to the next in the series.
WARNING… If you start reading Backlash, you might neglect everything else in your life, and have sleepy eyes in the morning!
This book is awesome! I love Quinn Lewis. He made this book ooze adventure! If it wasn’t for Quinn and his clever ideas, the rest of the team would not have finished chapter 2.
T. L. Thomas wrote a story that has everything plus 10 that you want to find in an adventure. I could easily see this as a television series.
All the characters felt so real to me, and I held my breath as I hoped they all made it out alive. This was truly one of the best adventure books I’ve ever read, and I highly recommend this to all ages!
I was gifted with Backlash to help me create his book trailer. I wasn’t asked to write a review by the author, I just wanted to share my opinion, and hope others will appreciate this book as much as I did.
Loved the book!! After 2 pages you will be hooked and then just enjoy the ride!! Fast paced and good characters that you root for throughout the story. Lewis is the MacGyver character we have missed. Yes he uses his shoes strings at one point!! The group of experts who have been kidnapped to help find a treasure quickly get on board for the adventure. They are in a cave, diving and rock climbing, working together as a team each using their expertise to try to get everyone to safety.
I was sent the book by the author who I am not related to nor have I ever met. You can tell I don't write or review for a living, I just enjoy good books. Enjoy this one - I did. Looking forward to the next one from DL Thomas.
I loved the way Lewis used his brains to solve problems, with the splash of humor to keep things going. He definitely reminded me of MacGyver! The story was super fast paced and hard to put down, and It reminded me of a Mathew Reilly book. To top it all off, as a mother of a tween reader, I love that I was able to share this book with my daughter and not have to worry about inappropriate content or suggestive innuendos. This book is a must read for fun-loving and adventure seeking adults and tweens alike.
This was a fantastic book filled with plenty of action, suspense, and the contagious fever of treasure hunting. I am so happy that I was able to read this book after winning it for free on Goodreads First Reads. The author did a great job with the backgrounds of each character. Each character's specialty (rock climbing, underwater diving, explosives, archeology, and problem solving) was well researched. I would definitely recommend this book to any reader who enjoys action and suspense filled books.
Avid readers are always searching for books that have fast action, intriguing characters and a plot that pulls you in. In D.L. Thomas novel "Backlash" you get of this and then some!! I was hooked on this story in the first page as I thoroughly enjoyed the writing style. This is an exciting read and the main character "Quinn Lewis" will linger in your memory long after your finished. So if action / adventure is what your looking for - Pick up this book :)
A very fast paced story . I could not put it down so I stayed up most of the night reading. This is one of the most exciting books I have read in a long time.
WOW! Hope you are not claustrophobic! This book is action from start to finish. When I received the book I was a little doubtful of the hype, but it delivered! If you get a chance this is one you should read. Other reviews have outlined the book so I won't elaborate on what they have already said. Just read it!
I loved this book! Quinn Lewis is basically abducted and end up going to look for lost treasure. One mishap after another occurs. Quinn's resourcefulness will help the team out time and again. Who is the bad guy in this? Not the person you would suspect. I would like to read more by this author. I think you might too.
