Amanda Cerreto grew up with a love of books and an appreciation for anything that could lead to a story. After reading Harriet the Spy, she camped out in various parts of her neighborhood, writing down minute details about her neighbors' activities. She often brewed up several short stories based on their mundane actions, like going to the post office. In college, she majored in literature and took a creative writing course as an elective. It was here that her love for writing was reborn, and when she began to seriously think of writing a novel. After college, she went on to earn her MA in English with an emphasis on creative writing.

Cerreto has written and published several non-fiction pieces, including an article for the VA about her father's military service. She has had short stories published in Collateral Journal and the Voices of War Anthology.

Her debut novel, Fall From Grace, was released on January 7, 2014. The Autumn Effect was picked up by the War Writers' Campaign and released in May of 2014.

I was so excited to read this, because Amanda and I went to school together and it's always so amazing when someone you know in real life has a dream come true!

I enjoyed Fall From Grace. It started a little unevenly for me, but as things began to be revealed and come together I really liked the development of the story and the characters. The pacing was done well with not too much being revealed too quickly, but not keeping it back so long that you got frustrated. I loved the twist at the end. It was handled really well, since that particular kind of ending can make people feel cheated. With this book it just felt right and it ended on a nice note.

Definitely a recommended read from me :)

Jack, a spirit, sees Grace crying for a cousin who has passed away and begins to watch her. He watches her constantly for five years. When she gets into a car accident in which she should die, along with her two best friends, he does what he is not supposed to do. He breaks the laws of fate, saves her and in the process, becomes not quite so disembodied.

Fall From Grace seems so straightforward. Of course, Jack is her guardian angel…or is he?

Grace becomes a pariah. She is blamed for the deaths of her friends and is outcast from all her high school social circles. Not only is she left alone as an outsider, but some of the popular boys, Brent and Chip, actively try to harm her. As I read this I thought, is this believable? Would people really blame her for being in a car accident that killed her friends? Are people so cruel that they would actually hurt her? Given how so many people project the hate that is in them onto someone else, making the other person their arch enemy, my answer is yes, I can believe this. However, the very surprising ending made me see the reason for her outcast status a little differently.

Yes, I said “surprise ending.” I thought I had this book figured out. I thought I knew where it was going, but it went in a completely different direction that I had never suspected. Before the unexpected twist, Fall From Grace captured and held my attention. Although a straight romance is typically not my favorite genre, I whipped through this book as fast as I dared without risking missing any details.

The writing was so strong that I grew to care very much about Grace and empathized with her miserable, lonely existence.

Jack is connected to Grace and can sense when she is in danger. Being superhuman, he is there in a flash to help her. What a compelling thought–that a soul can be so devoted to your every need, existing solely to help and love you! That thought became foundation for a truly wonderful romance.

What I loved: The non-stop fast pace; the haunting, paranormal aspect. The sweet romance that builds so nicely.

What I didn’t love: I don’t want to give anything away, but I wondered how Grace’s dead cousin was going to figure into the story and I was a little disappointed in that respect by the end of the book.

Overall: Five stars! An excellent read–a lovely, haunting, paranormal romance that is fast-paced and suspenseful with a wild twist at the end!

This is a light read, right on trend with the angel content. It is an enjoyable read that leaves the reader feeling optimistic. The stylistic choice of a two-perspective narrative is well-crafted and tactfully used. THis is a great debut novel, and I look forward to what this author will create in the future.
